  1. Ding! Winner-winner-chicken-dinner! This will be decided by the money people, not the hockey people. If the money people say they want/need this for Big Ten Network programming and advertising revenue Minnesota's love of playing SCSU, MSU-M, UMD, soon BSU, will lose out. I'll say it again: Of course Michigan, Michigan State, and Ohio State want Miami of Ohio as an affiliate. It's close to them. But I suspect in some potential "affiliates negotiations" Minnesota and Wisconsin would want some sort of consideration for them, say a more west affiliate that would be as good for them (at the gate*) as Miami would be for tOSU. And that's why I keep saying UND should control what is its to control and be as ready and attractive as possible, just in case. * We know who consistently fills both Mariucci and Kohl and who travels well to other events also. They know it too.
  2. Laughter? No. A simple, ... "Non-factor."
  3. I think Gophers and I think swine. (Too easy. ) Talk to me about TCF attendance when the Gophs are five years into that facility, below 0.500, and the gameday high temp is predicted in the 20s. In this climate, once a dome, always a dome. Immediately? No. With a long-term plan? Ask Boise State. Regarding Notre Dame: The same press release announces Notre Dame joining the BT and the immediate formation of the BTHC. The only question is when it happens, if ever.
  4. Here's the link: http://www.inforum.com/event/article/id/257063/ MplsBison: Send me your credit card number for the service of getting the link for you. I promise to not misuse it.
  5. You're a Gopher fan; you're sick by definition. And there's no way a $113 million dollar hockey rink could be built at UND. Please inform Misters T Brewster and D Lucia and T Smith of same. Really, then why waste time on things like "Plan 2" in here. http://grandforkslife.blogspot.com/2007/12...for-future.html Have they tried? Nothing can ever change from what it is today. Got it. First, we're talking affiliates for Big Ten Hockey, not full Big Ten membership. Next, they're talking Miami of Ohio, Western Michigan, and Bowling Green. I'll take UND head-to-head academically against those three. I agree. But UND can't take actions to protect anyone but itself. Control what's yours to control. If being FBS give you any shot at Big Ten Hockey affiliation, you have to consider it. Notre Dame is the plum the Big Ten has sought for decades. Notre Dame coming in as a full member is what the BT wants. I'd guess we have to wait until the end of the ND NBC deal to see what comes next. Big Ten Network money will be a big pressure. Like I said, UND has to evaluate the changing environment and work to control what it can control.
  6. I thought the plan all along has been Mattson in 2010 and Forbort in 2011.
  7. Too long for a single post, so ... http://boardsroom.blogspot.com/2009/10/str...ten-hockey.html
  8. Did you know: Travis Stay was wearing Gopher apparel the night that he murdered* a guy in a Sioux jersey. Just because someone's a UND student doesn't assume their hockey allegiance. * Complain to the jury about the word, not to me.
  9. Pondering my notion a little further ... Why not sell student lower bowl hockey tickets as a package to the students like now, with the whole "camp out in line" thing. But, why not have the upper bowl hockey tickets be given out at the preceding home FB or BB game. For Friday's Gopher hockey game you'd have had to attend the FB game v. Stony Brook. (Last FB/BB game before that day.) For Saturday's Gopher hockey game you'd have had to attend the FB game v. USF. Want to see UND v. Wisconsin in hockey on Dec 11 or 12? You'd have to either go to the M/WBB games on Nov 29 or the M/WBB games on Dec 7/8. (I'd pick "give away" games to be the ones being televised on FCS so you have a better looking crowd on national TV.) It's a pretty simple plan.
  10. And that encapsulates the mistake. The continuing mistake. What's the area code down in Sioux Falls? I want to have it around, just in case nobody is listening.
  11. Tu-Uyen Tran breaks down the numbers, and does a good job explaining the approach each school took. http://www.areavoices.com/gfhcitybeat/?blog=62036
  12. What the heck is the deal with Gopher fans putting Sioux fans into the hospital (or worse!), and in Grand Forks no less. The maroon-clad ones are making it very clear who the backward, ignorant, uncivil, uncultured, violent hicks are. May all of that ilk find that their cellmate is willing to trade them for half a pack of smokes.
  13. If you believe Ken Massey (http://www.mratings.com) right now U of Sioux Falls is ... #1 in NAIA #1 in Division III #5 in Division II #25 in FCS (formerly DI-AA) and wrap your head around this ... is ranked higher than 12 FBS (DI-A) schools. It's not the fancy "level name" you play at. It's what you do on the field that matters.
  14. Actually, UND requires ethics courses of engineering (Phil 370) and health care (Phil 372) majors. I guess that explains much.
  15. On days like this (two in a day), how hard would it be to set up a simple student promo: Come to the football game. Starting after the 3rd quarter UND stamps student hands (green ink, unique pattern) and that moves them to the front of the entrance line to the hockey game. Basically, make the waiting line for the hockey game the student section of the football game. If the students complain, tell them it's warmer and drier than outside. (You guys are so **** lucky I don't charge you for these simple ideas.)
  16. Like I said in a different thread: The mistake concerns me; the response afterwards is what I'm interested in. If Mussman doesn't figure out and begin to fix what went wrong Saturday, well, that's making the mistake twice, and that's not forgivable. If it comes to that, I know who's on the top of my short list of people: Kalen DeBoer.
  17. " ... shares Chapman's values ... " I wonder if that theme will still be there post-audits.
  18. I've said this in other circumstances on this board: The mistake concerns me; how you respond to it is what I'm really interested in. The team did not step up. They knew a good opponent was coming (52-3 in the last 55). They knew they had injuries. And yet no one stepped up. That's just selfish, just doing "their thing", not going beyond. There was no fire. They were arrogant and thought that being "D-I" means something. Well, "D-I" doesn't mean $#!+ if you don't play. Snap the ball, play to the whistle. Every down. Every opponent. The other team did. To the team: This is year 3 of the 5 year transition, the mid-point. This was game 6 of 11 of the year, the mid-point. Which way are you going from here? Will this be the mid-point of a continued downward path of selfishness and arrogance? Or will this team see this mid-point as the toe-hold to come together and move forward and upward toward something bigger? What'll we see boys: A team that just lost to an NAIA and that goes into a selfish self-pity shell, or A team that is 1-0 in the conference and still in line for a conference championship and plays for it. A team that withers or a team that steps up. Well boys, use the mirrors in Memorial and decide which team we're going to see.
  19. We didn't have healthy DLs to run a 3-4 on Saturday; how would've we run a 4-3?
  20. "C'mon Paulsen. I mean seriously, John, seriously, have you lost complete control of the Foundation? It's just a couple million."
  21. "The flood" was the first given rationale for the NDSU cost overruns. What's happened to that? Can't find it anywhere anymore ...
