  1. Agreed. That's why I qualified my list with "UND guys ... " If someone like Mel Pearson were to call ... uh-duh ...
  2. Re-reading that position posting, of UND alumni coaching today, I'm not sure who fits all of it, specifically the Required Qualifications: Required Qualifications: • Bachelors' degree • Experience Working under NCAA Rules and Regulations • Interpersonal and Communications Skills • Experience Coaching/developing defensemen at the NCAA D1 level or above • Experience with in-game bench management of defensemen at the NCAA D1 level or above • Experience evaluating and recruiting players at NCAA D1 level or above • Experience with coaching/developing specialty teams play at the NCAA D1 level or above • Experience in the area of video breakdown and analysis at the NCAA D1 level or above • Playing experience as a defensemen at the NCAA D1 level • Experience designing and executing on-ice practice at the NCAA D1 level or above • Must have a thorough knowledge of and commitment to compliance and follow all NCAA, conference and UND rules and regulations • Must provide support and encouragement and ensure the safety and well being of student-athletes • Criminal History Background check Preferred Qualifications: • Playing experience as a defensemen at the NHL level • Coaching experience as a defensemen at the NHL level David Hale - No DI coaching experience Dane Litke - No DI coaching experience UND guys I see fitting into that (because of the minimum DI coaching experience criteria) are: Brad Berry John Marks (and I'd be shocked if it was John Marks) Jason Herter (why would he leave UMD?) James Patrick (why would he leave Buffalo-NHL?)
  3. If new divisions were created I'd guess all rules like that would come under review for a new alignment.
  4. Seriously? Go back on this board to the 2000 to 2007 timeframe. I'm as staunch for the moniker as it comes. (Back then fourwindsboy wasn't so fond of me.) Then came the settlement and the unwinnable war. And I started to see and realize the real price that sanctions would bring. I guess I'm right there with Dave Hakstol and Tim O'Keefe. I'll ride with them.
  5. Why so angry today? You've been putting out every notion you've had today, uncensored. You're also being refuted on your points. Is that the problem?
  6. Ask someone who's lived in north Grand Forks, Devils Lake, or Wahpeton less than 10 years what the moniker of the local high school is. You'll hear "Knights", "Firebirds", or "Huskies". They've never heard of "Redskins", "Satans", or "Wops". That's also what the influx of people in the west will bring.
  7. Fetch, you're off the rails. I've asked the board Administrator to review and moderate.
  8. Those are stages of grief and mourning, not necessarily death. You're slowly coming to grips that the moniker could end and UND would carry on.
  9. Now that's a direct, personal attack. Noted. PS - Is Dave Hakstol one of the "weird-o's" too? Just want to be clear.
  10. Fetch: Your random ranting just shows me that you are progressing (or maybe struggling internally) on your walk along the Kubler-Ross grief model.

  12. If the state grows as predicted, what guarantee is there that today's demographics will be tomorrow's demographics? Someone's making some big assumptions about the future. Sanctions are here and now.
  13. Those are fine thoughts and theories (that I'm sure are quite as relevant as the price of tea in China to this discussion), but I live in a world where UND is under sanctions here and now. That needs to be dealt with here and now.
  14. To know comparable schools you'd need to know more about a school than "it has a hockey team" or is it "there's a school associated with that hockey team?"
  15. ND is sick of this issue. There are a lot of voters seeing this as a way to put it to bed.
  16. You're confusing too many side issues. Here's the core: On August 5, 2005, the NCAA set a new policy regarding Native America related monikers. It had nothing to do with Mr. Engelstad, changing divisions, conferences, or anything else. The NCAA set a new rule for their members. Their club. Their rules.
  17. No, those are NCAA DII and DIII schools. NCAA sanctions still apply. They could shun UND because of the moniker.
  18. The NCAA is Division I, II, and III. UND would face these sanctions in any NCAA division. They apply to NCAA members at all levels. If you don't want those sanctions you have to go outside the NCAA.
  19. Some may need help with this quote from Dave's press conference. I've bolded the tricky words. "I don't see any way that the University of North Dakota can become a fully successful Division I entity across all sports if we continue to mandate by law the use of the 'Fighting Sioux'. Simply put, in my opinion, it will likely diminish our hockey program over time, possibly slowly over time, but also in my opinion, I think it would be extremely damaging to all of the other sports on our campus in the future." entity: The total Athletic Department, not just hockey. campus: Where the University of North Dakota has existed, does exist, and will continue to exist, in Grand Forks, no matter the moniker used in the past, present, or future. And one more ... University of North Dakota: an institution that educates students and does nationally and internationally recognized reseach. It also has an athletic department with some fairly successful programs.
  20. Some quotes from Dave Hakstol's press conference back in February: " ... insurmountable challenges for some of our programs ... " "I don't see any way that the University of North Dakota can become a fully successful Division I entity across all sports if we continue to mandate by law the use of the 'Fighting Sioux'. Simply put, in my opinion, it will likely diminish our hockey program over time, possibly slowly over time, but also in my opinion, I think it would be extremely damaging to all of the other sports on our campus in the future."

  22. Yup, and most want to play at home in the playoffs and sanctions will never allow that.
  23. There was no personal attack. No one was called a {bleep} or anything of the sort. And I frequently have other moderators look at threads I'm involved in. (There's a whole moderation forum on this board that only moderators can see where we track and monitor everyone, including each other.)
  24. Dave Hakstol, reaching his pragmatic answer: http://www.fightingsioux.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_LANG=C&DB_OEM_ID=13500&ATCLID=205380595 Listen. Learn.
