Brasco
During the down time before the next series, I thought it would be interesting to think about who was the best or most influential person to wear numbers 1-35 at UND. Here is the small list off the top of my head (names off top of head not statistics and not all numbers filled obviously): 1- Karl Goehring (NCAA title, Most wins, highest win %, lowest GAA, highest save %, most shut-outs) 2- Curtis Murphy (NCAA title, Most GWG defense, 2nd goals defense, Hobey Baker finalist) 3- 4- 5- Jason Blake (NCAA champ, Hobey Baker Finalist, NHL All-star) 6- 7- Brad Bombardir 8- Mike Commodore (NCAA title, 3rd in penalties and penalty minutes, Wisconsin fight, NHL Stanley Cup) 9- Greg Johnson (Hobey Baker finalist, All-time UND points leader-272, Assist leader, NHL) 10- 11- Zach Parise (Hobey Baker finalist, 116 points in 2 seasons, WJC gold medal, 1st round NHL draft, Young Stars Game MVP) 12- Terry Casey (Only Sioux number retired or not used except Engelstead, Great player who died while at UND) 13- 14- 15- 16- Ryan Duncan? (If he stays 4 years at this pace he will climb many all-time UND marks, 20 goals already this year) 17- Jeff Panzer (Best GF player at UND, Multiple hobey baker finalist, NCAA title, 3rd games played, 3rd points, 3rd Assists) 18- 19- John Noah (Olympic Gold medalist, All-american) 20- Bob Joyce (Hrkac circus line, Most goals in season, 3rd in goals, NCAA title) 21- Tony Hrkac (Only UND Hobey Baker Winner, Hrkac Circus line, 116 points in 1 season, 70 Assists '87 season, 8 shg '87, NCAA title, best ever at UND in college?) 22- 23- Ralph Engelstead (No one has done more to support program, 2 arenas, number is retired) 24- 25- Phil Sykes (98 career goals, NCAA title) 26- 27- 28- 29- Ed Belfour (NCAA title, 29-4-0, NHL All-star, Olympic Gold, Stanley Cup Champion, Most well known alumni) 30- Darren Jensen (NCAA title, 46 wins) 31- Jeff Lembke (Only goalie with wins wearing this number...pretty weak criteria) 32- 33- Nate Ziegelman (Only goalie to wear this number?... pretty weak criteria) 34- 35- Jon Casey (2nd wins, .711 win %, .910 save %, NHL) What number did Dave Christian, James Patrick, Ben Cherski, Mark Taylor, Doug Smail, Nick Naumenko, Ian Kidd, and Dixon Ward wear? As you can see, I have a lot of number left. Please give me your top players at specific numbers with a reason you feel they are the best for that number. I would like to eventually compile a complete list. Thank you!
Uncle_Rico
Dave Christian #7 & #13 James Patrick #3 Ben Cherski #14 Mark Taylor #11 Doug Smail #8 Nick Naumenko #6 Ian Kidd #4 Dixon Ward #
UNDintheNHL
I dunno how influential they would be, but: #27- Matt Smaby (Captain) #18-Drew Stafford(great all around guy, oh yeah, he can play a little hockey too)
UNDintheNHL
Dave Christian #7 & #13 Christian was the guy who was on the Miracle team right? did eh wear 7 (gl) and 13 (bl) on purpose like that hah
GeauxSioux
Missing from list. Jim Archibald, I think he wore 15 and 21?? One of the most hated Sioux by the other teams. Ultimate enforcer. Troy Murray. I don't recall his number. He didn't play long at UND, but did spend about 15 years in the NHL.
The Whistler
Archie was 15. You have to give 11 to Mark Taylor, not Parise or Mel Parks. #6 would be Chorney, no MARK Chorney. Wasn't Craig Ludwig a 2 or 3?

SIOUXELEVENS
#7 Brandon Bochenski, #11 Mark Taylor, Zach was awesome but look at Taylors points and he wes named POY before there was a Hobey.

WiSioux
Isn't Lamoureux the only player to have woren #34? I think I heard that this past week... but I can't remember where.
The Whistler
The only 24 I can think of is Dane Jackson. He was a good player but wasn't 'special.' I'd liken his game to the current 24, Chris Porter. I nominate Garry Valk for #18. I'm blanking on a 10, wasn't Gord Shervan a 10? He was very good. Otherwise you could go with Perry Naka...Nako....You know that Perry guy that played on the Hrkac's Circus. Now that I'm thinking about it, maybe Shervan was an 11 and he wouldn't make it with Taylor (my choice) or Parise.
mikeypat15
#28 has to go to Robbie cause of the story #19 could be a minor split with Prpich just because the love the fans had for him #4 Taylor Chorney USA WJC Captain All this bases on the past couple years, haven't grown up with the Sioux became a fan when I attended
SIOUXELEVENS
#19 Russ Romaniuk, 3 years 93 goals and 57 assists

The Sicatoka
Dixon Ward wore 11. Sorry, but he trumps Zach. Ian (the) Kidd wore 4. Taylor Chorney is on pace to take it. Lee Davidson gets 14.
SIOUXELEVENS
But Mark Taylor trumps Dixon Ward but not by much. Lee Davidson is a shoe in
The Whistler
#22 Matt Henderson, the best 22 I can think of. MVP of the 1997 Frozen Four.
The Whistler
1. Karl Goehring 2. Craig Ludwig 3. James Patrick 4. Lee Goren 5. Jason Blake 6. Rick Zombo 7. Troy Murray 8. Doug Smail 9. Greg Johnson 10. Bryan Lundbohm 11. Zach Parise 12. Terry Casey 13. Dave Christian 14. Lee Davidson 15. Travis Zajac 16. Marc Chorney 17. Jeff Panzer 18. Drew Stafford 19. Ryan Bayda 20. Bob Joyce 21. Tony Hrkac 22. Cary Eades 23. Ralph Engelstad 24. Dane Jackson 25. Phil Sykes 26. Jason Notermann 27. Matt Smaby 28. Robbie Bina 29. Ed Belfour 30. Darren Jensen 35. Jon Casey Great list, but are you sure about Mark Chorney? I thought he was a six. I'd go Jim Archibald over Zajac for 15, but you can't go wrong with Z. I also would take Mark Taylor over Parise, just for the fact that he played 4 years. Again, not a bad choice at all.
