Denver made another Final Four, this time in men's soccer.  The other final four teams are Stanford, North Carolina, and Wake Forest.

Guess the investment in lax has paid off doubly with the Soccer FF, as they share facilites.

Utah is adding DI lax if board approves President's recommendation

http://www.uslaxmagazine.com/college/men/utah-president-recommends-addition-of-mens-lacrosse-board-votes-friday

Utah doesnt currently have a conference to play in.

Meanwhile, Dakota lacrosse growth is happening:

http://www.kdlt.com/2017/06/11/growth-expected-dakota-premier-lacrosse-league/

Utah will have options for a conference.  Denver and Marquette play in the Big East, Air Force in the Southern Conference.  Lacrosse conferences get kinda convoluded but conferences and teams find a way to make it work.

Grand Cities Lacrosse had a good weekend in Sioux Falls last weekend in the Dakota Premier League Championships.  Varsity, 14U, and 12U all took home Runner Up finishes and our JV won their championship.

Minot has 120+ kids doing a familiarization clinic right now an are hoping to play some games if not a league schedule at 14U and below next spring.

Utah's board approved men's lax to start in 2019.  Apparently, a wealthy Brazilian airline executive gave over $15 million to endow the program.  Utah has already been signing kids, mostly from California and Colorado.

A later US LAX magazine article says the Southern Conference, the Big Ten, and Big East may offer a spot.  Would think USC and Stanford would start men's lax and get the Pac12 to sponsor it.

I don't see them going to the B1G, The B1G would have to take Denver just to make the conference even and that's not happening. Utah is in the same boat as Arizona State is for hockey, the Pac-12 and member institutions are going to wait and see what Utah's profits are before anyone else adds the sport to varsity.

So if UND added lacrosse it would need to have $15 to $30 million endowment (just for a men's team). The costs are going to be $2 million a year and no guarantee that UND will make that money back (Denver made $1 in profit two years ago). If UND ever adds lacrosse they would need a group of schools in the area to add lacrosse to cut travel costs and the operating costs of $2 million. I have no problem with UND adding lacrosse, the chances it happens in the next 5 years is low, but the moment UND says they will add it the twins and their women's hockey group will come out and demand the school bring back the women's hockey program.

Now if the rumors are true its time to see if Utah adds hockey next.

A Salt Lake Tribune article says Utah is in early stage talks with the ACC, the Big East, and the Big Ten. The ACC needs another school as then it can have an autobid. The ACC could also do that, because they often schedule at Denver with one trip west.

Utah is the best school facility wise to start hockey in the PAC 12.  If they add hockey, they will also have to add women's lax. Probably will take over $50 mill endowment, which makes the chances go way down.  Men's lax was possible as Utah was underrepresented for men in Title IX.  Hockey now would have to add a women's sport too, making it even more expensive.

The ACC needs another team, but that's a big area if they add Utah.

Arizona has the best facility hockey wise. $50 million endowment is easier for Utah then most non-P5 schools. Hockey is the rumor from some Ute fans.

Utah could always add track & Field.

I don't see UND adding any sports anytime soon. If they did, they would probably start with recently cut sports.

I could see that as a lone exception.

And that's why a Summit Football League is needed now to have another men's sponsored sportsin the Summit, to avoid starting men's soccer, which would cost as much as lax and NDSU and SDSU could avoid the costs too.

Minnesota is churning out DI lax prospects.  Also, more talk that Moorhead will field M&W lax teams next year.

Both M &W lax were two the the most added college sports in the past decade as well as beach volleyball.  M&W swimming, wrestling, and M&W tennis were the sports most cut.  It makes sense for UND to add appeal to its sports offerings (and enrollment growth) rather than tennis and swimming that don’t have revenue.

UCDavis just added beach volleyball as well as equestrian.

Is lacrosse a fall or spring sport? What facility would they play at to make money (Alerus, Memorial Stadium)?
