elmduf
And does it matter at this point in the season. I like to look at the pairwise, which has the Sioux at #4. Although, I'd always like to see UND ranked #1, I guess it's more important to drag a winning streak through the NCAA tourney than early in the season. What's the feeling about this amongst the Sioux folk?
dagies
I'm all for not being ranked #1. Polls don't win games, but they can make bulletin board material for the opponent.
Speez
Being ranked #1 at the end of the season before play-offs doesn't guarantee an NC$$ championship. When was the last time the #1 team won it all? It hasn't been for a few years, but I haven't been around here that long. Who needs the #1 ranking or wants it ? I think the team will be happy to be in the top 5 at the end of the season. Let someone else wear the #1 target on their backs.
ScottM
I'd rather be ranked Number 1 in April when it really counts.
Riverman
I am ok with the ranking.Last season was not that long ago. Just think how the Gophers must feel. They win it all last year and everyone would rather talk about the Fighting Sioux on all the other boards!(I am ok with this also)
elmduf
I think it's a fair ranking myself. It would be nice to ride another winning streak into April. Going into the CC series at the end of the month, It looks like CC and UND will probably stay 2 + 3. I'm not worried about the AA series this weekend. Hopefully, a week off will do them good before heading to the springs!
farce poobah
Speaking of rankings, I think we should loan Canisius some players, to help their RPI ... And I'd ask everyone to root against the 2 western regional hosts ... so that if UND gets that far, there's a better shot at neutral ice games ... Maine deserves to be #1. Look out for Denver and St Cloud ....

Fighting Sioux Fan
I don't agree with this poll! I think CC should be #1 over Maine! It would be nice for UND to be #1, but being #1 isn't a garauntee for anything. UND is still #4 in the Pairwise which is still good!
PCM
Anyone know the answer to Speez's question? When was the last time a team ranked first in the polls won a national championship? As the 2000 Fighting Sioux and last season's Gophers proved, you don't even have to win the WCHA to win a national championship.
tuggnutt
Anyone know the answer to Speez's question? When was the last time a team ranked first in the polls won a national championship? Just trying to go from memory: 2002 Denver #1 (Minnesota won) 2001 Michigan State #1 (BC Won) 2000 BC #1 (UND won) 1999 New Hampshire #1 (Maine won) 1998 UND #1 (Michigan won) 1997 Michigan #1 (UND won) 1996 Michigan won...weren't they the #1 going in? Hard to say. Just guessing/trying to remember on these...
TC_transplant
In 2000, I thought Wisconsin went in number one to the regional at Mariucci, had the bye and then got beat by BC.
jimdahl
Since I can't even hope to do it from memory, the #1's that I could look up: Mar 18 2002 UNH (also #1 in Mar. 4 poll, before WCHA play-in) Mar 19 2001 Mich St. (also #1 in Mar. 5 poll, before WCHA play-in) Mar 20 2000 Wisconsin (also #1 in Mar. 6 poll, before WCHA play-in) Mar 22 1999 UND (also #1 in Mar. 8 poll, before WCHA play-in) Mar 16 1998 UND (also #1 in Mar. 9 poll, before WCHA play-in)

elmduf
CC and Michigan Tech tie 3-3 tonight. Maine also ties tonight. Provided our Sioux win Saturday against UAA, we could leapfrog up front again. My hope for a #1 Sioux vs. #2 CC matchup in Colorado Springs could happen!
