jk
No offense to anyone posting in threads about the Sioux name, or satellite and internet coverage, or tickets and roadtrips, but is there anything hockey-related going on? Did any players pull a "Bulldog:" sitting on their parents' couch drinking beer all Summer long? Anyone come back in killer shape, ready to have a breakout year? Have the freshmen fit right in during Summer skates, or conversely looked out of place? Are we in for a serious rebuilding year, or can the team mature quickly enough to compete a little ways into the Spring?

The way the team is handled by the coaching staff will be crucial with so many young guys. I am NOT questioning the coaching staff or their ability, only stating that a young team will need a lot of guidance and will require work on team leadership, comradory, and motivation. While the defense is young, I think the goaltenders will have to step up in order to keep this team hanging on. Mistakes cannot be held against the young guys and the team needs to give eachother a chance. I think we are in for a great year, regardless of what place the team ends up in. I look forward to watching the team grow and talent develop.
AZSIOUX
jordan and phil will be a huge factor this season, that goes without saying..especially with the young D. there are many many factors but i did not feel like writing a 2 to 3 paragraph message.. heres odds from AZSIOUX's sportsbook 1, is my over / under for prpich fights....... 1 1/2, is my over / under for goalie watter bottles prpich drinks out of... 2 1/2, over / under for shutouts this year..... 45, points over / under on toews points...... even odds that we beat the gophers once by the score of 4-2 anyone want action

He was a major force as a freshman last year and with the added size and muscle, he should be even better this year. That's the good news. Now the bad.....I talked with Lou Lamoriello at the Frozen Four last spring and he was drooling over Zajac then, so how will the we ever keep him away from New Jersey and with the Sioux for a 3rd year? Goon
I am definately ready for some hockey, the name change debate is getting tiresome. Hockey and ducktober are right around the corner. Both look really promising this year.

Seems like he had to have been ready enough for some forward thinking college to talk him into playing.

Yttrium
Oshie - WCHA Rookie Of The Year Looking over the roster there's no doubt UND, U of M and other colleges are loaded with incoming freshman. Although Toews is very talented, T.J. Oshie is the player to look out for coming out of that Fab Frosh Class at UND. Rookie of the Year would be a great attribute but his #1 goal is to bring another NCAA Championship to Grand Forks. He has the make up to make teammates around him overachieve and attain greatness. The kid has shattered every scoring record wherever he's played at (Seattle, Warroad HS). Scoring 100 points in 31 games this past season for Warroad can't go unnoticed. And he set up perhaps the most memorable State Championship goals in MN State HS history by diving for the puck after winning a draw vs. Totino Grace on the tape of Aaron Marvin who pocketed the wide open net. His mental and physical toughness helped guide the Warriors to another MN State HS Hockey Championship and his tenacity is unparalleled. On top of that, he's the consumate "team" player who will do anything for his team to win as witnessed on that goal to clinch the title last March. Kermit
Oshie - WCHA Rookie Of The Year <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I'd love to see that happen (as would nearly everyone here)--but it seems almost fantastically optomistic. Here's an apparently objective analysis of Oshie's performance at the recent USA WJC evaluation camp: http://www.hfboards.com/showpost.php?p=3293921&postcount=105 Actually, I liked Oshie's approach. He showed that he's a hard worker. He created some good scoring chances for himself but couldn't finish. I liked his aggressiveness and think that he may be one year away. The speed of the camp was tremendous. I do feel he was in the top half of the forwards, but toward the botom of the first half.

Anyways my sleeper pick for rookie of the year is Kozek. From what I have read and from people and NHL scouts have said he sounds like one heck of a player and talk about a guy under the radar. A second round draft pick and he was the fifth guy taken just out of his freshman class. I just have a feeling that with all the talent coming into the WCHA this year that someone like Kozek, who isn't as well know as some of the Sioux's other recruits or the guys from Minny, will have a good shot because all the attention will be on other guys. redwing77
Devils Top 20 Prospects on Hockeysfuture have been released. Two Sioux in the top 5 (#1 and #3). 3. (+1) Travis Zajac, C, 7.5 B The Devils first rounder in 2004 started off his first year in the organization with a bang, and the end result has him now as the third best prospect in the system. Zajac was a two-way force for the Fighting Sioux as he led the University of North Dakota in goals (20), power play goals (10) and short-handed goals (3). Overall, he finished second on the Sioux roster with 39 points (20 goals, 19 assists) playing in all 45 games. Zajac returns to UND this fall where he will look to build on his stellar effort of 2004-05. While he may have surprised many with his play, the Devils will tell you otherwise. They may have not expected him to mature this quickly, but the Devils clearly knew they were getting an abundantly talented player when they drafted him last year. Zajac could still get better as he continues to mature and fill out his
dagies
I don't see anyone overtaking Kessel for ROTY but the Sioux have as many or more guys ready for 1st runner up than anyone else in the league. And that's not bad at all.
