 In his hometown - that’s some fairytale stuff

First QB since Steve Young in 1985 to lead his team to a W when trailing by 10+ points in 4th quarter in his debut

He became the first quarterback in NFL history to account for three touchdowns in the fourth quarter of his NFL debut

So can someone explain to me what happened in that game? What changed in the 4th quarter.  I get up early for work, so after JJ threw his 1st NFL touchdown to the Chicago Bears, I went to bed. On the way into work I hear on the radio we won.  We didn't look like we could win - what changed?

Dare I say the Vikes finally have a franchise QB?  Pretty impressive to come back the way he did after 3 quarters of nothing. Yes it’s one game but there’s hope that he may finally be the guy

Dare I say overreaction after one start against the Bears? This is why fans of other teams get so annoyed with Vikings fan. Either the team is going to the Super Bowl after a few good games, or the team sucks after a few games and everyone should be fired. Pump the brakes. His 4th quarter performance was impressive, but I expect he will have ups and downs. It is certainly way too early to make any assessment about whether he is a franchise QB. I will say that I have been telling Vikings fans that if JJ is even average, the Vikings should have a good year because their roster is probably as good as any team in the NFC other than Philadelphia. They were respectable even with Nick Mullens and were good with Sam Darnold, neither of whom are franchise QBs.

flores did what allen didn't.....confuse the young qb with different looks and bring pressure.

(that ST lb that came in for an injured lb was an absolute stud for the vikes)

For my money, Packer fans are some of the most annoying fans in the NFL.

Having said that, they aren't world class jerks like Eagles fans are.

You said "dare I say the Vikes finally have a franchise QB?" That sounds like more than hope to me. It sounds a lot like Bears fans when Caleb Williams had a few good starts.

I agree with both points, but Vikings fans are pretty annoying also. We complain on this board about Gopher hockey fans being over the top, but a large percentage of those fans are also Vikings fans.

Why single out Vikings fans? Almost every fan base in the NFL overreacts to both good and bad news.

if every bear played like deandre swift last night they would've won by 20....

totally weird game and johnson had the "gase look" in his eyes at the end...

and the buck troy..jfc...."he looked to the sideline to see if koc wanted him to run out of the endzone"....ummmmm yeah that was something that was obviously talked about before the kick or if it wasn't jfc .... AND like troy said why not kick it out of bounds....unless i'm missing something they should have if santos couldn't kick it out the endzone like apparently can't

AND if someone is on the ground holding the ball and hasn't been touched and a d player punches the ball out and doesn't make contact iwth the o player isn't that a fumble...?

Right where he was supposed to be, on the bench.

Play JJ, he has to take the wins or losses, no more training wheels.

i hate "game manager" qb's...BUT in this situation I think Carson could lead/manage this team to a SB....with that defense he just has to be joe flacco 2.0 for one season....jj looked lost in the first half and that was an understatement...looked better in the second and who knows if it was a combo of allen crapping the bed or koc letting jj do more or heck even less...but weird game all around.

Yes, I still haven't figured out that play yet.

They obviously talked before the last kick off to look to the sideline to see what to do.  I thought it was dumb.  The returner should have been told you need to returned the kickoff no matter what.  It was a waste of time to look to the sideline to see what to do.  I guessing the Chicago Kicker didn't have the leg to kick it out of the end zone, or he would have.  Difference in the Game was the kickers.  Their guy missed a FG and failed to kick the ball out the endzone.  Our guy made the 58 yard FG.  6 Point swing in a 3 point game. (Obviously no one know how game plays out if they make and we miss)

Guessing as soon as the ball is touch and the ball carriers knee is down the play in dead.

With all due respect, because we are surrounded by them and I have never seen more over the top fans of any team that even come close to Sir Death or Darrick Mitchell on Facebook and their numerous followers. It honestly reminds me of Bison football fans, and that is not a compliment.

Yes.  Viking would have had the ball at the 40 yard line and saved the Bears 40 Seconds.  More than likely Bears get the ball back  with 50 Seconds left around there own 15.  Plenty of time to get into FG Range.

any reason why troy and buck and espn glosses over "little" things like this....

how about the "fumble'.....is the football considered part of the body for touching to be down...seems odd if it does...the rules "expert" seemed like he was doing a kamala word salad....

Section 2 - Dead Ball

ARTICLE 1. DEAD BALL DECLARED

An official shall declare the ball dead and the down ended:

  1. when a runner is contacted by an opponent and touches the ground with any part of his body other than his hands or feet. The ball is dead the instant the runner touches the ground. A runner touching the ground with his hands or feet while in the grasp of an opponent may continue to advance; or
    Note: If, after contact by an opponent, any part of a runner’s leg above the ankle or any part of his arm above the wrist touches the ground, the runner is down.
  2. when a runner is held or otherwise restrained so that his forward progress ends;
  3. when a quarterback immediately drops to his knee, or simulates dropping to his knee, behind or beyond the line of scrimmage;
    Note: If a quarterback does not immediately drop to a knee, and contact from a rushing defender is unavoidable, it is not a foul unless the defender commits some other act that would constitute unnecessary roughness.
  4. when a runner declares himself down by:
    1. falling to the ground, or kneeling, and clearly making no immediate effort to advance.
    2. sliding or diving. When a runner slides or dives feet or head first or simulates sliding or diving, the ball is dead the instant he touches the ground with anything other than his hands or his feet, or begins to simulate touching the ground;

      Notes:

      1. Defenders are required to treat a sliding or diving runner as they would a runner who is down by contact.
      2. A defender must pull up when a runner begins a slide or dive. This does not mean that all contact by a defender is illegal. If a defender has already committed himself, and the contact is unavoidable, it is not a foul unless the defender makes forcible contact into the head or neck area of the runner with the helmet, shoulder, or forearm, or commits some other act that is unnecessary roughness.
      3. A runner who desires to take advantage of this protection is responsible for starting his slide or dive before contact by a defensive player is imminent; if he does not and waits until the last moment to begin his slide or dive, he puts himself in jeopardy of being contacted.
  5. when a runner is out of bounds.
  6. when an opponent takes a ball that is in the possession of a runner who is on the ground.

With all due respect, I do not care what those yahoos on social media say or think.

We won't know anything about any team until the halfway point of the schedule.
