One college president sees the death of the autobid as a real possibility.

This would kill March Madness forever. The intrigue of the tournament would be gone. And the TV contracts they have been able to negotiate will be worth far less.

I would certainly lose interest, but it might be a wash for the NCAA. They'd likely get more money and more fans watching from the bigger conferences that will inevitably fill out the bracket. 

 

Conversely, the NIT might become more interesting to watch.

Parity is killing that goose already, the David vs Goliath moments aren't what they used to be of 20-30 years ago.

As someone that went to undergrad at Middle TN State, I still relive the upset of Michigan State in 2016. Small School Autobids are what makes March Madness awesome.

Once the P5 reorganizes into the major football conferences and splits from the NCAA, their basketball teams will follow.  Cinderella will then be Washington State and Vanderbilt.
