Let'sGoHawks!
What is the best place to watch a game as a Sioux fan on the road? Are there any "rough" crowds where you have received a beer shower or other similar event? I have only been to Mankato and the Xcel, they were both good places. Mankato seemed like a home game at times being the Mav's fans were so quiet during their beating. I have heard Duluth is fun but they get mean at times. Will I be arrested or denied admittance in St. Cloud when I walk in the National Concrete Center with my Sioux jersey on? Thanks for the info. dagies
I've had opposite experiences from you. I've generally found UMD fans to be knowledgeable, yet involved. I can't stand Mankato fans. I've pretty much decided that's not a place I could take my kid to. SCSU has generally been a good experience. Usually a pretty involved crowd. Mariucci has generally been fine too, if you can put up with the whining.
sagard
Mariucci has generally been fine too, if you can put up with the whining. The Gophers usually allow the Sioux to win a game, so you won't have to do that much whining.
Fedorov
I definitely have the most fun in Madison. They have a great student section and they are allowed to do whatever they want. Their goal horn is very loud and gets the crowd very excited. I have always ended up by at least one good hockey fan that I have an interesting conversation with. There are also several nice people that just like to talk to you about ND or the REA. There have been a few fans that through out some comments, but it has never been anything close to a physical thing. Sioux fans are also all nice to each other there, which doesn't seem to happen at REA. I even had a Gopher fan come up to me one year and say that he was probably hated more than I was. If a Gopher fan is making a trip from Minneapolis to see UND/UW, it tells you how fun the Kohl Center is.
A.B.T.G.
Mariucci has generally been fine too, if you can put up with the whining. And all of those ridiculous cheers.....bunch of winners there!

Let'sGoHawks!
Sioux fans are also all nice to each other there, which doesn't seem to happen at REA. I've found this true too, that is why I enjoy road games so much. It seems like the limited amount of Sioux fans all join together to make as much noise as possible.

Manderleigh13
I really enjoy games in Madison. They are a great crowd. In the past I have had parents wave their babies in my face screaming "Go Badgers" and have had fans who ask about the team. They are usually a nice crowd. I went up to Houghton and the announcer told the Sioux fans that they liked "good sportmanship." The MTU crowd certainly didn't have "good sportmanship" towards the Sioux crowd. A lot of the Sioux fans in our section were commenting on how it was a rough crowd.
siouxhockey5
I was lucky enough to be able to attend both games in Duluth this year, and let me tell you that it is loud in there, it is a small rink, but the student section is very involved. I didnt receive any greif for wearing my sioux stuff, that I didnt deserve. It also helps when UND sweeps a HUGE series like that one. Plus there are a lot of bars close to the rink, so it is a good time before and after the games as well. SiouxHockey5
dagies
Or....I agree with dagies. Long day. HA! Probably just the bad memories of drunk Mankato fans accosting you in the concourse. Or should I say sidewalk. It's no wider than one.
Diggler
Five minutes into my first game in Mansucko, I was nearly accousted by a mullet wearing bufoon and all I did was say that with all the cowbells in the arena, iMav fans looked like a bunch of retarded Bison fans. Of course I was a prophet because two years later NDSUcks-Mav fans joined forces to nearly burn down the city. Mansucko is a good name because it sucks. Sioux #805
i would have to agree that madison is one of the best opposing venues. the downtown bars are chaotic and you are always sure to find a large group of fighting sioux fans before and after the game. i was at the games last season. the atmosphere friday night was second only the the ralph as the badgers came back and tied the game and won in ot. the bare concrete building helps the crowd generate an amazing amount of noise. the huge student section behind the opposing goal is absolutely out of control. the fans are loyal and friendly. ScottM
I used to love going to Madison as a student, since we would have such a good time, we'd forget to go the games. For hockey lore, few places can compare to Mariucci. The Wall (mural) is something that still gives me chills. Of course, going to Stub's was always an attraction too. Let'sGoHawks!
I say as many of you as possible buy tickets to the Sioux Mankato series in October (15-16) and we show these Mankato fans how real fans are supposed to act at a hockey game. We could all answer their complex questions like "when is halftime" or "how many quarters are there in the game?, I am ready to go to the bar." jloos
Hands down Mariucci is the best rink to visit, they are the only one that has a Famous Dave's on site.

bigmrg74
Beer abuse. The beer was innocent, man. Don't do that to the beer. Amen GreyEagle!!! Its one thing to shout nasty things about the opposing team's goalie about how he might resemble Swiss Cheese, but to waste your overpriced arena beer by dumping it out on on opposing fans? Totally heartless!!!
Goon
(Dirty Gophers) Marry-ucci is pretty sterile. Been there twice and its an ok arena if you like olympic sheets of ice. There is no atmosphere in that building what so ever. Too much marroon and gold too. (BSU) John Glass Field House is horrible venue for hockey and cold as heck some nights too. The ice in there is nice and hard so the speed of play is up and down the ice. No room to breath when the place is packed. (SCCC) Low as hell, bad system that gets cranked up low, so that explains a lot of the noise. Some of the drunkest and stupidest fans I have ever seen. One of the worst designed arenas in hockey. (UMD) old arena with decents seats. It could fixed up and be one of the nice small arena in college hockey. Needs a lot of work but fun place to watch a game. WPoS
UW: stupid fans, yelling "SIEVE" after every save by the visiting goalie, bunch of mullet wearing, ice cream wanting, drunks. Been threatened a few times as have my buddies. Bars sorta make up for that. But that the student section can do whatever they want in violation of NCAA rules needs to change. Arena itself is nice, but sterile, no "atmosphere". UAA: one of the most BORING places to watch hockey. Nothing to do in AK during Feb. All the touristy places are closed and the sidewalks are caked with ice. As for the crowd, actually quite a lot of MN fans up there from working on the pipeline, so it was ok. With no student section or band, it was quiet. I was heard yelling for my Gophers over the radio! Nicest people on the planet tho. UMD: ah, DULUTH! Grandma's and cheap booze, more than makes up for the lack of imagination in that arena. tPB guys are a riot tho. The rest of the fans are not the brightest tho. Inane, old comments by a bunch of punks (am I getting that old?) and being threatened by old (ancient) UMD fans was the highlight this last year. That and brooms hitting their own fans because they couldn't throw them that far. The arena is a pit, with obstructed views and stupid netting. The place is OLD and is like a rat maze, where was the pisser again? Or was I just that drunk? Places I need to get to yet so I can make comments: UND, MSU, but I'll pass on the toilet bowl of JBSU. Next year I myy make it up to UND and show you guys how to tailgate in the winter! WPoS
FIRE HELMET GUY #26
Madison, Great town to visit....PLENTY OF BARS! The fans REALLY get into the games and try to intimidate the heck out of opposing goalies. They can get kind of evil for no reason though. Myself and Bertibm were leaving the bar last year.....I believe it was Brothers, and as we're walking out the door two guys come out of nowhere and say they are going to "beat the **** out of us in the alley", we didn't even do anything. FHG's Grade= B- SCSU, Kind of a dumpy town but some really fun bars.....The Red Carpet RULES! The arena is kind of a dive, the fans are pretty much always hammered and I don't know how many new swear words I have learned just for visiting that place a couple times. Half the students I don't think even know hockey, it's just a social event to show their buds how hammered they are. FHG's Grade= A- Duluth, GREATEST ROAD TRIP EVER, most people that know me find this shocking I know! Grandma's Sports Garden before and after games is a great time to meet up with fans and even the UMD Penatly Box guys, which treated us Gopher fans very nicely this past season. The arena is a DUMP but it has history which makes it a decent place to watch hockey.....if it wasn't for the DAMN nettting! Of course this past seasons trip was tarnished because the big group of Gopher fans didn't get our typical section together....but fun was still had. FHG's Grade= A++ Mankato, I have some to the conclusion that Mankato fans know absolutely NOTHING about the sport of hockey. The arena is a ghost town, and kind of dumpy! It has some good bars to visit.....I dont' know the name of the Irish Pub in town but if you ever go there ask for a Diamond Cutter, VERY VERY TASTY! FHG's Grade= B Mariucci arena could be one of the GREATEST places to watch hockey if they would get the dang corpies to start cheering!!! Yes, I know my post is long but I miss hockey season and I can't wait for this years roadtrips!!!
