forecheck
As I'm sitting here trying to recover in time for the festivities tonight, I thought I would share one of my experiences in Boston. Thursday we kicked off the party at a place called Sully's at 10am. Needless to say, I had a few drinks by the time the afternoon rolled around. So we're at the Penalty Box between games when a guy comes up to me and tells me he loves my jersey, and asks if I want to trade with him. He was wearing a New Hampshire jacket and a New Hampshire hockey polo and said he would give me the 2 for my jersey. I didn't think he was serious, but with some encouragement from my friends and the help of an ever increasing blood alcohol level, we took off our shirts and swapped. Then one of the Boston College fans we were partying with, the one who had been telling me for the past hour about how he loved my jersey and thought the Sioux had the best looking jersey in college hockey (some of you might know darin from USCHO), flips out and says he would have traded with me if he had known I would give him my jersey. I just laughed and said he should have told me that earlier because I would rather have a Boston College jersey. He bugged me to get my jersey back so I could trade with him, but the other guy didn't want to give it up. He said he watched the Sioux win in Providence in 2000 and just loved our team. So I told the BC fan that I'll buy another jersey and we'll trade in Columbus next year. I'm just thinking, man if I had known that people would want a worn out jersey with a rip on the sleeve from a plexiglass injury so badly, I would have brought a few extras along and made some money! Apparently these people don't know you can buy jerseys online? So later on I started chatting with a couple of New Hampshire fans in the bar, and they were telling me that I made a good trade. Apparently you have to donate big bucks to the school to get the jacket that I had on. Some ESPN guys stopped a couple of us when we got off the T train that morning too and asked if we would walk by the camera so they could get a shot of fans in their jerseys. Someone let me know if I was on tv! Anyway, I thought it made a good story. I was a New Hampshire fan the rest of the night. Anyone else have any good stories? Schmitzzz
no story to tell since we laid pretty low Thursday night but I love the fact that the Minnesota banner hanging in the Fleet Center rafters doesn't show 2003 as a year in which they won the NC. I too have received many compliments on my Sioux jersey (road green).
Schmitzzz
Also had the chance to talk briefly with Zach's agent. Nice guy. Same agent as Jason Blake, Lee Goren, Grant Potulny, Johnny Pohl, and Peter Senja.

schmidtdoggydog
Ben Hankinson? Neil Sheehy was with Parise at the Hobey ceremony today, so I am assuming he is ZP's agent.
jloos
Neil Sheehy was with Parise at the Hobey ceremony today, so I am assuming he is ZP's agent. That is what I've heard. Sheehy is a very nice guy, earned his law degree after playing in the NHL and college hockey at Harvard. He was very near the top of his class at William Mitchell, and was one of the main reasons their school hockey team kicked so much ass. MinnesotaNorthStar
I was watching the game in my apartment alone...with my friend MGD. Then I went out to Buck's for the Hawaiian Tropic Bikini contest. Saw Tank Williams from the Tennessee Titans there. Then went out to an after party with the winner and the third place finisher, and Tank Williams. So, after the game, I was drinking with two Hawaiian Tropic models (one...not the one who won...looked almost identical to Jessica Simpson, smarter though), who actually talked to me, and Tank Williams. And, it was all in Grand Forks.
Diggler
I never understood why you'd name your kid Tank. And why aren't people named after other vehicles? Though I guess there is Cadillac. I think it'd be cool if you named your kid like Jeep or Minivan. Sidecar, monorail, Metro Transit System. All totally cool names that aren't used nearly enough. Hi I'm Two Door Sedan Smith! Nice to meet you, I'm Moped Jones. And of course the new cool name.....Segway!!!! That's what I'm gonna name my kid.
The Sicatoka
And why aren't people named after other vehicles? I know a girl named Mercedes. There was an Oakland Raider lineman named Lincoln Kennedy. And how can you forget Chevy Chase. What worries me are kids named after cars, like those mentioned, and cities, like Houston, Austin, Cheyenne, and so on. Names like that always make me wonder where those children were, how shall we say, created.

Greyeagle
Porshe is sometimes used as a girl's name. Typically girls named Porshe are fast and handle like a dream.
The Sicatoka
With the "name game" going on I forgot to point out a key issue: ... I didn't think he was serious, but with some encouragement from my friends and the help of an ever increasing blood alcohol level, we took off our shirts and swapped. 'forecheck' shedding the shirt in public? I'm sure the guy's motivation was only the jersey. I'll avoid asking, with the shirts off you "swapped" ... what, exactly? Oh, yeah, a coat for a jersey. That's the story and 'forecheck's' stickin' to it. Diggler must be off his game or he'd have asked all these "enquiring minds" questions. Like I'm gonna read that. I'm lazy. Maybe if she would have broken it up into managable chapters I would've made an attempt. But as it stands now, I don't have 2 hours to read a single post. You want it short and sweet huh? Typical male. How's this for you? Friday I went to the INCH party at Our House East. Two words: open bar. Met and took pictures with Jeff Sauer, Scott Sandelin, Brown University assistant coach Danny Brooks (whose wife has the same first and middle name as me), and Bill Watson (Hobey winner for Duluth). I wanted to pretend like I knew people. Saturday we topped off the last 1-2 hours before bar closing at Coyote Ugly. If you've seen the movie, you know what kind of debauchery went on there. BTW Sicatoka, I always wear a white long sleeved shirt under my jersey. He didn't want a shirt with pit stains. Get your mind out of the gutter. farce poobah
One final tip of the cap to Zach: After what I'm sure was a disappointing Hobey Baker Award ceremony, and after several media interviews, he signs autographs for several kids, taking time to exchange a few words with each, and even poses for a picture with my two young girls. All the while, Zach is pleasant and an occasional brilliant smile crosses his face. Point being, from his demeanor, you couldn't tell whether he had just won the Hobey or not. Classy guy. Go Zach. forecheck
Hey, I was there from the end of the game until I think a bit after midnight (any help, Kirk?) We didn't see you there Actually I saw Kirk at Coyote Ugly now that I think about it. I think he may have been leaving, and I had only been there like 5 minutes. Believe me, if you had stayed you would have seen me. I saw Kirk at the airport coming into Boston too.
mom53
some frozen four observations: best moment - watching my son skate onto the ice with his teammates, thinking "i cant believe they're here" worst moment - game over, they lost - i can't believe it! other great memories - running into old friends (UND fans) at the Harp on thursday for a pre-game; doing the historical Boston tour (all that); lunch at Cheers and walking the Freedom Trail on a beautiful Saturday afternoon; being at the inch.com party Friday night - wow! - I wonder what that bar tab was!?! what a good time that for all who could fit in the place!!; going to all the games and not scalping our tickets for whatever $$!; being there and watching Junior get the Hobey and the reception after at The Rack - at least some consolation!; having family come from all over the country, especially grandpa and grandma was great; the T is awesome - back and forth from the hotel to the fleet and downtown for 3 days for $7.50 works for me! never mind that we had to take a cab from the inch party because the T stopped running at 12:30am!! anyway, you can see that i am a UMD fan (and a closet UND fan!), and I can see why you all are proud of your championship banners. this really is something and i want to go back again! line of the weekend - my daughter to a Minnesota fan with his "M" jersey on - "I didn't know you guys were here - what time do you play?" priceless!! he was not happy! Actually there were a ton of people I know that were there. Not because their team was there, but because they go every year, just like some UND fans and others of note. KirkEisenbeis
Just to connect the stories of Jim and forecheck: I think I stayed at Coyote Ugly about 30 minutes after Jim left, and ran into forecheck on my way out. Sorry, forecheck, I wished later that I had hung around a bit more after running into you again. At the time, I was pretty lit and fleeing from the birthday girl. Stack
After Fargo just voted down non-smoking in restaurants it reminded me of my Boston Experience. We hit almost every bar between Fanueil Hall and the Fleet Center at one time or another and also ate at various places. The coolest thing was that even after doing this I could actually wear the same pair of jeans the next day because they don't allow smoking in public faciltiies. Talk about nice! But now I'm back in Fargo and there is only one bar in town that doesn't allow smoking. I guess I'll just have to eat and drink at home more often. In general Boston was a great city. Everything was within walking distance except the day we went to Harvard. We did the normal stuff like going to both Cheers Bars, walking through Boston Common, antiquing on Charles Street, and having dinner at an Italian Restaurant on the North End. On Friday we ate an early dinner at the Barking Crab restaurant and then took a water taxi back to Long Wharf. That was cool. We only made one mistake. The first night we decided to wait for the Irish music to start at the Black Rose and after drinking until they started it was a tough walk to the hotel. We met some Sioux fans from a small town in New York. After extolling the comforts of the Ralph we convinced them to make the Mecca to Grand Forks this year for a hockey game. I met a lot of fans from other teams who kept saying they wished North Dakota was there because they like the way we play the game. Most of these fans complained about the style of Maine and Denver but acknowledeged that they deserved to be there. In all a very fun time. Now what the heck is there to do in Columbus?
