Lots of exciting games left where 8 teams still have a shot at the remaining 6 spots. A good week by any of the 5-8 teams could lock up the 5 seed or push for the 4, but a bad week could be the end of the playoff hopes. NAU is pretty much in a win out situation to get in, and PSU is all but out. Eastern is red hot and can have a great chance at the 2 seed.

UND scenario to win the regular season title goes like this

1) UND beats PSU and EWU

AND

2) SUU and Montana lose once

We are guaranteed one of those because they play each other. We will have to be ironically MSU fans for them to knock off the winner of the MON/SUU game. Its a tricky road trip for UND but at the same time it is very winnable. First thing is first, take care of Portland.

If UND wins their next 2 games and loses at SUU and the regular season ends and we are tied for first how does the tiebreaker work to determine who hosts the tournament?

1. Head-to-Head Competition

a. Consider the head-to-head record during the Conference season. In double round robin play a team would have to sweep the opponent to break a tie with this method.

b. In the case of more than two tied teams, consider the Conference regular season record for head-to-head competition among all of the tied teams. This process is used to break ties between any of the tied teams with any remaining tied teams returning to the process at criteria 1.a. (above). (Example: Teams A, B, C, and D have identical record from a double round robin season. In head-to-head competition Team A emerges with 4-2 record against the other tied teams, team B and Team C have a 3-3 record and team D has a 2-4 record. Teams A and D can be placed in the final standings at that point while teams B and C return to criteria 1.a. If B and C have split their regular Conference season games, they will move to criteria 2. Performance against other teams in descending order.)

c. In the case of three or more teams having identical win-loss records, the normal tie-breaking procedure would be used. When one or more of these teams is eliminated by using the tie-breaking procedure, the remaining teams involved would then return to the criteria listed in a., above, to break the tie. This will be done until a team is established for that particular seeding position.

2. Performance against Conference teams in descending order of finish, beginning with the No.1 team. (Example: Teams B and C remained tied after head-to-head criteria from above. Team A has been declared the Conference Champion based on the above criteria. Team B has split the Conference season games with team A and team C has lost both of the Conference games to team A. Team B is now placed in second place ahead of team C.)

3. RPI rankings

4. Coin flip between the tied teams

A-C makes no sense to me, and same with 2. Can anyone decode this and spell it out in layman's terms.

1A. Head to head record. If UND loses to SUU, they will be 1-1 against each other. Move to next tiebreaker.

1B. Only applies if more than 2 teams are tied.

1C. Only applies if more than 2 teams are tied.

2. Start from the top of the standings and work your way down. Compare UND/SUU's records against what would be the #3 team (behind UND/SUU). That is currently Montana. UND and SUU are both 1-1 against them. Move to #4 team, currently EWU. Against them, UND is currently 1-0 and SUU is 1-1. If UND beats them Saturday and EWU still remains #4 overall at the end of the season, UND would win on that tiebreaker.

Thank you!!! Now it makes sense.

So it would appear that if UND would win the next 2 games they would probably be the number one seed no matter what happens at SUU. Is that right?

Not quite, though it would take a collapse by EWU. If it went to tiebreaker #2: EWU (10-6) has a 2 game lead over Sac St, MSU and ISU for 4th place (all 8-8). If one of those three teams passes or ties them, they would have to figure out the tie-breaker to figure out who would be the #4 seed. Of the 8-8 teams, SUU would win the tie-breaker if Sac St or Montana St was used and UND would have it if Idaho State was used.

In the case of a tie for 4th, it looks like EWU went 2-0 against Sac St (good for UND), split with MSU and is currently 1-0 against ISU.

UNC is technically still able to tie EWU, EWU would need to go 0-3 and UNC would have t go 3-0, which would include beating EWU and SUU. They would have a split on the season, so it would go to a tie-breaker that depends on how the top of the standings shake out.

UND beats PSU and EWU, SUU loses on Saturday to MSU title is UND's!! GO UND (and Bobcats!)

MSU/SUU game starts 1 hour before the UND/EWU game. Scorboard watchers will be on this!!

We definitely don't want to leave it up to other teams, but it looks there is a really high likelihood if UND wins the next 2 games we will be hosting the tournament. Go UND. Winning on the road and winning when you HAVE to can be difficult sometime.

Your first sentence is so true!! Take care of #1 first and that's UND beating PSU and EWU then if MSU beats SUU your task of the title is complete if SUU beats them it's showdown time in Cedar City.
