UND (16-16) gets to play a little bonus basketball for the 3rd year in a row. The first round opponent is a familiar one as they head on down to Cedar Falls, Iowa to take on Northern Iowa (18-14) in a rematch of earlier in the year.

First Matchup on November 17th

UNI 72

UND 47

When these two teams met, it was an absolute disaster for UND, when you have the following:

  • Troy Huff out with his broken jaw
  • Jamal Webb coming off the bench and playing ineffective after serving a 1 game suspension
  • Brekke ineffective with foul trouble
  • Wilmer not playing inspired ball on the inside

Despite only being down 11 at the half, things got really ugly in a hurry in the 2nd half. Aaron Anderson paced the team with 12 points, and Antwi and Traylor chipped in 9.

Both teams since them have gotten better. UND, now at full strength sans Traylor, is playing their best ball of the season right now. UNI looked to do some big things in making a charge at a NCAA bit, but being bounced in the first round by Illinois State left them reeling. Nevertheless, they are still a dangerous team that has knocked off several NCAA teams and nearly bagged a couple of giants (Louisville) during the year. It will not be an easy game

UND needs to learn how to beat these types of teams to better prepare them for next year and I am sure coach Jones is a little tired of having that 0 fer on his record against his alma matter.

Hopefully, this is a start of a nice little run in the CIT and the beginning of the build up for 2014.

Is this Brad Sloshedman?

HA!

You blew my cover!

In all seriousness I hope NDSU does well in the CBI, I think they will do some damage and wouldn't be shocked if they were one of the last 4 teams left.

It will be an interesting game to watch. UNI runs 3G and 2F which should match up well with the smaller lineup UND has used recently to create match up problems In the Big Sky. Will UND smaller line-up shutdown UNI? I am not sure going big will be an option.

Small ball has been our most effective line-up all year. Will Jones change our starting line-up now that everyone is healthy and go to our strongest line-up or just keep everything the same.

Post season basketball is all about guard play - hope Anderson and Webb have great games.

I am interested to see how Jones defends the 3 point shooter for UNI.
