darell1976 Posted December 14, 2012 Posted December 14, 2012 In case anyone hasn't heard there was a school shooting at an elementary school in CT this morning. At least 27 dead including 18 kids. That's right 18 K-4th graders. One dead is the gunman there was reports of a second gunman in custody. http://www.valleynewslive.com/story/20346108/shooting-reported-at-connecticut-elementary-school I have two kids in school (1st and 6th grade) and I pray I never have to go through something like this. My thoughts and prayers go out to the families of the kids and adults killed in this tragedy. Quote
jimdahl Posted December 14, 2012 Posted December 14, 2012 I find that the age of the victims, K-4, makes it hit me especially hard, too. Quote
siouxweet Posted December 14, 2012 Posted December 14, 2012 couldn't agree more, this makes me absolutely sick. my thoughts and prayers go out to all the families involved. Quote
jodcon Posted December 14, 2012 Posted December 14, 2012 Sickening. Seems like it is happening more often the last few years too. I hope the families can heal from this. Quote

crb1 Posted December 14, 2012 Posted December 14, 2012 I agree the age of the victims is absolutely horrifying. As a parent I am just heart broken. I hope schools around the country look at their security measures. I know schools in town you can basically just walk in any door. Quote
Redneksioux Posted December 14, 2012 Posted December 14, 2012 Absolutely disgusting. And these idiots keep picking places where they know they won't be shot back at. Quote
sioux7>5 Posted December 14, 2012 Posted December 14, 2012 18 more Angels in heaven today and my prayers go out to the families affected by this senseless shooting. Hell is too good of a place for this thug. Quote

Our schools have numerous lockdown drills and only the front doors are open from the outside, still one person with an automatic weapon could do unthinkable damage in a short time. Is this what the world is coming to where you have to post security at the entry point and make every person (students included) walk through a metal detector? Sometimes I really wonder what my kids and grandchildren are going to have to deal with in 30 years the way the world is going. Quote

I hope your right about the schools because I know I went to pickup my son one day he wasn't feeling well from an elementary school and I walked right in the backdoor and through the hall up to the office and no one saw me or said anything to me. That kind of freaked me out. Quote

That kind of freaked me out. That's how it used to be here too, incidences like the one today really have to make schools look at their security policies, they can't totally stop this from happening but they can do everything possible to limit the damage...e.g. one entry point by the office, closed locked doors in classrooms, intruder drills, etc... Anybody whose children attend a school where they are not comfortable with security policies or lack of them should contact their school board members and arrange to get on the next meeting agenda, we can't assume anywhere is completely safe anymore. siouxforeverbaby Posted December 14, 2012 Posted December 14, 2012 My heart goes out to the victims of this shooting and their families. One of the adults killed was the principal, who left behind 5 kids. The article on CNN.com had talked to a student's mom and her child had described to her that they heard the shootings and then the police came to escort them out telling them to close their eyes and hold hands to get out. No child should have to go through that at any age! Quote
