Economic Activity in GF

You are correct, Allegiant would not be in Grand Forks if not for the Canadians coming down to use the airport. We can also probably thank them for the new air service to Denver from United that starts in October. The airport has tapped into the Canadian market and taken a small piece away from Winnipeg. Most of these travelers are from the area between Winnipeg and the border.

I am actually surprised that we don't have a flight from Winnipeg to Grand Forks, ND.

42nd St is really filling in.

Crown Colony to be demolished and replaced with commercial / apartment complex. In the 80's, Crown Colony was the prime entertainment complex, with the Colony Theaters, restaurants, bars, etc.

Careful, you'll upset mg2009's viewpoint that Grand Forks is a sluggish, dying community. :silly:

This has been in negotiations for the last couple of years. Bill, Ted, and Walter finally got their number and Opp decided finally the market was ready. Bill, Ted, and Walter own all of the building and lot except for the piece a bank owns of what was Shangri La. BTW owns about 85% of the building and lot. I suppose someone here will tell me I am wrong.

Pretty soon I am not going to recognize the GF I grew up in.

But they are cashing out better than any other bar sales in GF. This has been in the works for awhile. Hence, why they have not been trying anything.

My hangout was the Rock, is that place still hopping? In 98 they had dollar drink night, I drank 13 screwdrivers in about an hour an a half. Such good times there.

jesus, one derelict mostly abandoned building being demolished and replaced hardly means grand forks is a boomtown, but I'm not going to go after that one today.

anyway, thrilled to see that dump get leveled. I've lived nearby for 3 years, went to the dunder all of twice, and actually forgot campus liquors existed. win win win for all involved.

i think the rock died around 2006, right around when JB's opened and the uptown/downtown reopened and orealys and level10. I think grandforks nightlife, at least for the college age crowd, is pretty solidified downtown now.

Take it in context of what is happening further south on 42nd. Maybe you haven't read the papers on how little housing there is available in Grand Forks?

wow, they're building.... a strip mall, and can't find any better commercial uses for land next to a sport stadium than... residential. Sometimes i wonder if any of you have spent time in a city other than grand forks.
