just one of them.

Watford City could become the size of Minot in 15 years by having a total population of 40,000.

But if that happens Minot will probably be at 90,000+ in 15 years, as Minot was adding more people every year than Watford City during the boom.

Watford City had an estimated population of 6,500 in 2017.  I'd say they could hope for maybe 15-20,000 in 15 years, putting it more in line with present day Dickinson.

This sounds more plausible.  Dickinson has-had a healthy growing pace while Williston was nuts and more problematic.  Really hard to gauge where Williston goes from here.

times up.:)

We are entering year 5 of the predicted 15.

Just 10 more years.

Going to need Williston to quite losing people though like they have been the last couple of years if it's still going to pass Fargo.

estimates being thrown around for Williston now are 60K in 10 years.  Estimates for Watford is 30k in 10 years.  Williston is voting on 2 new grade schools and an addition to the high school.     Watford is voting on new grade school.  Both Williston and Watford schools are busting at the seems.

Williston's population has been decreasing the last two years.

Williston is gaining in population.  The schools had an increase in students as the oil field had a pause the last couple of years.  Next year the new airport will open and the present airport will be decommissioned.  That will be prime development area and plans are being made now.

It is seriously hard to measure population in any town in the patch.  Oodles of people still go there for their 2 week ,or whatever length they’re using, but get their mail back home.  It is interesting to note that the largest class size growth is in pre and elementary according to those that I know who actually live among this.

Many of Watford City residents have corporate jobs at nat gas plants.  Far from transient as in the old oil boom days.  Some people are building houses intending to stay.  And those jobs will only increase as more are constructed and operated.  Watford City HS has the best facilities in the state with the convention center and hockey arena complex right next door.

Minot has Nedrose and South Prairie HIgh Schools near its city limits now too, but those are not big enough for Class A but could be in the future.  Minot is stubborn about keeping its two HS campuses for two years each.

I hope you're right on Watford City.  It would be fun to have another competitive team in all sports in the WDA.  As to Minot, Nedrose has greater potential for increased growth relative to South Prairie.  Many of the younger grades at Nedrose have 50-60 kids per grade, so that would put them at a fairly large class b school.  South Prairie's younger grades are sitting at ~30 kids, but the problem with South Prairie is I could see a scenario where the southern neighborhoods ask to be annexed to Minot Public because of convenience.  That could hurt South Prairie's potential growth.

Is it really though?

Population determinations are pretty accurate these days and they don't generally use mail to determine it. It's electronic these days. And likely use cell tower data usage to help determine these numbers.

They use the same population protocol for everywhere so if they see a trend downwards, it's likely to be accurate.

Which proves my point. Population decreased just like the article states.

minimal from '15 to '16.  Population is up in '18.  This will show up in a few months.

After two years of decline it could increase this year. Maybe even be back to 2015 population levels.
