Miami of Ohio

I left Fargo to get away from the flood. My wifes sister lives in Oxford, Ohio where her husband played and now coaches at Miami of Ohio.

I toured their beautiful facility, GOGGEN ARENA, and thought it was funny when on the tour it was said..."This is the 2nd most impressive hockey facility in the country"

It was awesome.....but not even in the same league as THE RALPH.

We were then when the players arrived for their welcome parade. Met a few of them and my brother-in-law tells me they are a great group of kids.

GO MIAMI.

My son was skating on their main rink when they arrived and he was wearing his FIGHTING SIOUX HOCKEY Sweatshirt....that got some interesting looks.

I heard there arena is a nice facility. By the pictures of it, it certainly does.

However, I could never cheer for Miami and there dynasty.

GO Bemidji State Beavers!! :)

You know what, Miami may not be a perennial elite team, yet, but they are in the right direction. Their program was on the chopping blocks about ten years ago thanks to Title IX. Enrico Blasi has turned the program around. They got a new arena, and people have come out to support them.

The last couple years they spent the majority of their time in the top 5 in the country. Boston College ALSO eliminated them the past three years before BC ultimately went on to beat us. They've had some serious talent. This year was the rebuilding year for them, but look what they managed to do....beat two very good WCHA teams for a spot in the big dance.

The Miami die-hards are as passionate as anyone and their school deserves a lot of credit. Their arena may not be in the same league as the Ralph despite being very nice. So, who cares if they are proud of it....they should be considering where their program was not that long ago.

More great teams in college hockey makes for better college hockey. I've been cheering for Miami and BSU from the start of the tournament, so too bad they have to play each other.

Hey Big A HG are you becoming a closet Miami Fan? I don't know if I could ever cheer for the Red Hacks but their coach is a class act.

They did take out denver which is cool to most Sioux fans. However, some of the fans that cheer for their program kind of ruin it for me.

I can only imagine what my buddy Redhawkman10 is saying over on USCHO? LOL... I am excited for the match up at the REA this fall.

"MIAMI" on that jersey is the name of a tribe folks.

And before "RedHawks" they were ...

Miami of Ohio is in the category of and Stanford and Dartmouth and other changers when it comes to monikers.

They've made part of the problem for North Dakota.

What is all this talk about a dynasty? They've made the tourney 4 years in a row. Great. This year is there first frozen four. Also they've won one conference regular season in 2005-06, how is that a dynasty? But seriously congrats to the Miami program and for making it to the frozen four! Also i need to publicly thank them for beating DU, thank you!

Does anyone have a video link to the MU go against DU, i think it was the 4th MU goal.

HAHA. This is too funny! In order to be a dynasty, "you need to have a coach there for a long time and also an arena that you're proud of!" That quote is obviously paraphrased.

"Students and fans might be witnessing the beginning of a team that will be talked about as one of the best ever in college hockey."

It takes alot more then a nice building, a good coach, and decent recruiting, to be considered a dynasty. That's just a start. Then you need to win, year in and year out. Don't hate me for saying but, I would have trouble saying that UND had a "dynasty" with the Duncan class till now. That was with 3 frozen fours (4 NCAA tourney appearances), a league championship, a broadmoor trophy to top it all off.

Miami a dynasty? Good luck in the tourney.

I would say that bench mark programs like Michigan, UND, DU, Wisconsin. Miami is not a bench mark program.

There are idiots of all fan bases. I don't even look at USCHO's forum anymore...waste of time. I wouldn't say a closet Miami "fan" (short for fanatic, which I am not), but I do quietly cheer for them.

I like a lot of the college hockey schools that aren't big time schools outside of hockey (North Dakota, Maine, Miami, etc...). These types of schools are the glue that keeps college hockey what it is.

Uh, folks, from that article:

Check the dates. That article's over a year old and Jones and Davis are long gone.

Someone mentioned Dynasty. I realize it was old just saying some were trying to say that Miami was on the brink of a dynasty last season. I guess I was making fun of the skippy that wrote it.

Yeah I agree with your, if you listen to some of the other fans from the big ten schools they think they are the glue that holds it all together. I do like the small schools in small towns.

I agree, it's kind of nice being an "underdog" and being able to cheer for the other underdogs like Bemidji and Miami. Even though the Sioux and other perennial names, like Michigan and BC, aren't there , it's still a nice showcase for the sport.

Yeah I realized that while I was reading it. It's still an absolutely crazy article. It's probably worse that it was written nearly two years ago, then if it was written today.

What's wrong with it being an old article? If anything it makes it even more ridiculous with the notion of dynasty in there heads beginning over a year ago.

Anyways, it's just become a running joke on Miami(the whole dynasty thing).

Agreed. It's funny reading posts on it, because the article is still getting posts ripping it apart. If I was MU I would remove it!

I respect what Miami has done since on the chopping block, but ESPN is smoking some bad pot if they think the Redhawks are one of "hockey's greatest teams" or one of the "top teams in college hockey."

They've had TWO good years. TWO. They nearly had three but they wet themselves in the first round 3 years ago. Sure, Jonathon Quick was UMA's (or UML can't remember) goaltender but... seriously, can you name any other players on that UMass team? Surely we can name more players on Miami's team.

In any case, they'll be ok. But they don't deserve all the hype they're getting...yet.

I dunno I think their coach has that program going in the right direction and they are in a rebuilding mode this

season. So I guess they could be a force.
