  1. Does anyone know anything about Brett Kostanlansky from Shattuck (there maybe was something in the potential recruits thread, but I couldn't find it). He's a Defenceman origianally from Denver. He was the MVP of the tourney.
  2. And this is the head of officials? Can he read the rules? I certainly would question it after that response. Doesn't even make sense. Edit: And what's this MAYBE crap?
  3. Didn't see it myself, but my Dad said he thought LuciaPet was going to strangle Frazee right on the bench.
  4. I like that idea. My only concern is I'm wondering if he's big enough. The one thing I noticed that Miller seemed to be lacking this weekend was the strength to go into the corners and fight. While I love Trupp and think he is going to be a real dynamo for this team, I just don't know if having only Oshie as the big body on that line will work. One of the things that was great about the DOT line from last year was it was impossible to get either Oshie or Toews off the puck, so they could hang onto it in the zone until a shot developed.
  5. I was at 2 of the three Dallas games and did not see CJ play dirty or give a diry hit once.
  6. The D was a wall tonight and not just the actual D-Men, but all the way through the line-up. They stood people up, got in the way, hit people and moved on. It was fun to watch. I really like it when they play physical. They seem to have much more jump and energy, and it really opens up the ice for them. Tech didn't seem to be coming at us half as hard as last night. Dobson really got pounded tonight. He's going to be one hurting puppy tomorrow. Everybody was after him tonight and what was fun was they were all over him but if I'm remembering correctly, we didn't get a penalty off a hit on him (not totally sure on that, just the way I remember it.)
  7. This is two now by Schmidt this year and both in Denver's favor. The reffing in this league is horrendous and has been for years and for a league that has such consistanly STRONG teams it's a shame to tarnish our league with below sub-par reffing. What is really sad is it's not just one ref, but all of them. I never hear a refs name that I don't go "Oh SH(*&(^^@T"
  8. Which S word? The one with the P or the W?
  9. One other thing I was thinking while watching TJ, Duncs, Trupp et al give piggyback rides all night is that if I was one of the AAA midgets star players watching these guys get manhandled with no penalties being called I might think twice about wanting to play in the WCHA. Kinda takes the fun out of things if you don't get to really play.
  10. Was sitting right behind Radke when the tech guy pulled his head off (I guess Hak is making him shorten his chin strap a little after last year). I thought he was going to kill the guy. The look on his face was scary. Campion let tech get away with so much early in the game that they just kept trying to take more and the Sioux were really getting pissed about it. I was sure the game was going to get really out of hand, but when the AR called that penalty it seemed to wake Campion up a little that even if he wasn't going to call it, someone was. The AR also had his hand up a couple of other times during the game and when Campion would see it his arm would go up too. Campion is just a bad ref. This game had the potential to get real ugly and tomorrow night has that potential too. Personally I think Hak should just let Radke go at will and we'll see who's standing at the end. I would be willing to bet it would be Radke.
  11. Not if Adam were reffing
  12. Just got back from watching SSM vs Dallas. SSM is GOOD. They are excellent at getting the puck to the net. Shots were 61-10 and the score was 5-1. Dallas goalie had a .918 SV% which isn't two bad considering the number of shots SSM had. The play didn't seem as lopsided as it was in last nights game of SSM vs Eastman (played almost entire game in Eastman's end). SSM is very aggressive and really took on what seemed to be a physically much bigger Dallas team. Wasn't as impressed with CJ Ludwig today as I was last night, but I'm not sure anyone could look impressive against SSM. He is a solid player though and is tough to knock down. People just seem to bounce of him. Not a real big kid (5'11" I think) but very solid on his skates. Would like to see him in a Sioux uniform. I think there is some real potential there. Looks much better than he did last year. David Toews was good. He had one goal that I saw (missed the first three goals of the game) and it was a nice one. He's a good puck handler and has a great nose for the net and for who's on their way to the net. Matt B from SSM (I can't spell his last name) is very feisty. Got two penalties right in a row for mixing it up in the last half of the first, but then settled down a little. He played alot on the PK and the couple times SSM was down two men, he played most of the 5 on 3 PK and Dallas didn't score on either of them. Toews was also out there on the 2 5 on 3 PKs and did well. It's alot of fun to watch SSM. They've got alot of good players and they play hard and never let up. On a side note - nice crowd both last night and today. Thought at first that Canada really travels well (there are 3 manitoba teams in the tourney) but walking out to the car the license plates were pretty evenly split with ND, MN and Canada. Nice to see the local support.
  13. I'm taking my nephew tonight to watch Shattick and then Dallas at the olympic, so if anyone's there come by and say hello. (I'm the blonde in the world jr's sweatshirt and geometric sioux coat)
  14. Forney came in second in the accuracy competition after Duncan at the skills competition. They got the same number of goals, but Duncs did it faster. Forney has a wicked accurate shot. I really hope he can get to the point where he feels comfortable on the ice. He looked really tentative to me when he played here. I still thing he could be a great asset to the team when he get his confidence back.
  15. Anyone know anything about CJ Ludwig? Saw him on the draft list at 174 (I think) and uncommitted. If I'm remembering correctly we're pretty full up on defense, but I'm curious if anyone's heard anything about him. Saw him last year at the Little Ceasar's tourney and thought he looked pretty good (not great, but solid)
  16. I have to say, I really do miss the days where our reputation for being thugs and goons was earned and truly deserved and above all respected. Nobody liked us much, but they didn't mess with us either. That was back in the days of Micky Volcan, Craig Ludwig, Jim Archibald, Howard Walker, and crew. Back in the days where there were no facemasks, barely helmets and certainly no "fighting" penalties, and if my memory serves me correctly, we carved the stats into the side of the cave. I would love to see what "Little" Joe, Zach Jones, Kyle Radke, Rylan Kaip and some others would do without the fighting rule to some of the players who can't keep up with the likes of TJ or Ryan Duncan and the only way they have to play against them is to hitch piggy back rides and take cheap shots.
  17. I have an idea. Let's play in Grand Forks on Friday and on the road on Saturday for the rest of the year and we'll be sittin pretty!!!!!!
  18. He seemed to be playing hurt, but I hadn't heard anything about it. Any idea what the injury was? On to the topic of the thread - Oshie's a good kid and I haven't seen any "star" attitude from him. My 9 year old nephew's hockey team often practices after the sioux and Osh is always great with those little guys. He makes them all feel like they are friends with him, which is such a blast for them (all the guys are great, but Osh and Vande seem to make special efforts) That said, he needs to work a little harder at keeping his nose clean. This is his 2nd arrest in less than a year and part of growing up is learning from your mistakes. Apparently the first time didn't make as deep as impression as most of us would have liked to see. I fully support Hak in suspending him. As much as I don't want the Sioux to have to play a night without him, its important to set the bar high. I realize that these guys are primarily kids (I did more than my share of STUPID things in college), and are technically "only hockey players", but like it or not they are role models, that is the nature of the beast in Grand Forks. These guys do have a responsibility to themselves, the team and the community to behave in appropriate and legal ways. If I have any question about that, all I have to do is look at my 9 year old nephew while I'm trying to explain to him why Osh got arrested AGAIN.
  19. I don't think that's an option this year. I think he has been a healthy scratch. Saw him at the "fan fest" (he came in second in accuracy to Duncan) and he seemed fine. (I realize that a skills competition and game action are two very different things so would be hard to really tell.)
  20. One more thing - What is Rick Wilson up to - I know he left Dallas after Tippet got there, but haven't heard anything of him since then. Is he still in hockey somewhere?
  21. Not two years in a row Hat trick for Porter - just the wrong one. Would be nice to see a shorty just for giggles.
  22. AND THEN SHOOT SOMEMORE!!!!!!!
  23. I hope is will be Duncan just to punctuate his Hobey run and to tie for the season lead in goals nationally.
  24. This is really not feeling like Sioux hockey. I am probably being overly critical, but the don't seem to be winning face-offs, don't seem to be connecting on passes, can't get it out of the zone. Feels like they are way back on their heels. Somebody please tell me I'm wrong and the last 12 minutes the Sioux are going to turn it around.
