Guessing QB is not an impressive position, along with WR group. O-Line was as expected, above average. RB's good. TE group always a mystery. D-Line probably seen as not good plus a big change with 4 man front. I think we have some capable backers. Corners pretty average. Been lacking Safeties for years. All in all a small margin for error historically.

I'd keep Kostich as I mentioned last week. I like Joel but as a position guy, probably safeties, but T. Stepps is there and probably can't keep both. I wouldn't keep anyone else especially the guy that wanted your job. I don't know Kirkwood but RBs have been strong. I don't think Dosch is the right fit under Schmidty, it's a weird dynamic.

Both take money, and sometimes not as much as you'd think. You can dedicate to football only or do up to 2 sports. I have been talking about this for years and it is now established, legit, already used to keep several athletes at UND.

I am not in charge of hiring. There is about a 15 year age difference between Bubba and Schmidt but honestly is seems like the gap is bigger. They are not very similar in my opinion.

What part of Schmidt's time at UND don't you like? The National Championship and All American status as a player or his leading Big Sky Defenses prior to being decimated by injuries. His Defense one season lost so many guys it was mentioned on Sports Center. Or, after UND is it his Special Teams Coordinator and OLB coaching in the FBS National Title game that folks have doubts about? UND might be too big of stage for him.

The Schmidt years of D are coming back to me. Without some key injuries, Reyes and the other transfer safety, Zach Arnell, that was shaping up to be a really good D!! The NDSU cheap shot on Arnell was bad, hard to forget that.

Didn't Schmidt bring in Tillman, from Houston, who was one of the best players on D in 2014?

I only found through 2016 so far. The other years should be there, too, in the media guides.

The stats are hard to find but one is total yards per game, #1 in 2014. And the other is based on points given up, #1, in 2016. Sure Schmidt's defenses weren't perfect but to say below average appears misleading.
