A change here would require an AD to get his head out of his hockey @$$, raise money to buy out a contract, and actually look for a head coach. (Realistically, he wouldn't have to look far.) Bigger budget helps with better coaches and retaining coaches. Therefore, winning would likely be a byproduct. Which would probably boost attendance. Then you create more income and things keep rolling. But it has to start somewhere. Where are the boosters for basketball?

Simple answer-YES! I agree that most instances Hooker starts. Just some scenarios could be there where he doesn't, or switches out in game to big lineup. No disrespect to him! To answer your question better - I think DeRouen has shown enough problems that he will get few minutes. I like Tyler, but his size and athleticism arent what Crandall and Seales bring. Tyler fits a backup guard perfectly I think. Coming off the bench will also allow him to look to be more of a shooter, presuming he subs Hooker and Crandall goes to point. You have Hooker leading the first group, then Crandall taking point and Tyler's experience helping round out second grouping. Then Hooker can spell Crandall on next sub. I think you can swing these three guys specifically to keep them fresh throughout season. However, I know Hooker is used to major minutes as is Crandall, the coach may have to step in and get them to rest for the long haul. I think our back court is going to be phenomenal, and a good time to watch.

I take your word on this, I havent seen him, just heard. I figured he would give serious minutes off of bench, with possibility of getting starting role. But I'll gladly take an athletic 6'8" kid that can board in the starting lineup.

I think we've had enough of a sample size to get an idea of what he is. His negatives are very bad. We have kids coming that play as hard or harder defense and better disciplined. And offensively, they will make better decisions. If he is on this team next year, i dont see him getting much time. Hooker, Crandall, Seales, Tyler, McDermott. All guards that have to have minutes. Maybe McDermott redshirts, but his shooting is going to be needed.

I don't see Shields leaving. (insider info - ask gfhockey) I could see DeRouen, Coleman, and maybe Tyler. I hope I'm right on Shields. I would like to see Tyler stay as well.

Things are what they are, I think it's obvious. Let's try and stay positive, negativity can go elsewhere on this forum. With the tournament here, and our new guys coming in, why not look forward to next season? Presuming everyone is eligible to play I see two different starting lineups possible. Small (most likely to start this way as Jones seems to like running 3 guard sets) 1. Hooker, 2. Crandall, 3. Seales, 4. Shields, 5. Shanks Cashman could be started in place of either 4/5, especially to go Shanks/Cashman at same time. Not sure yet, but for rotation purpose this makes sense to me. Bench is deep with Bernstine, Collins, McDermott, Tyler?, Hobaugh, Benton, Blake, DeRouen?, Coleman? I think you have to give the three guard lineup serious consideration, as we already know what Hooker is capable of, and give him another year of development, he will be even better. With Crandall's ability to run point or be a creator/scorer he has to be on the floor to take heat off of Hooker. Then put Seales out there also and you now have three unselfish players that can score or create, they dont care as long as they are successful. One may be garnering more defensive pressure and the others will be there to make up for it. I see Hooker resting with Crandall at the 1 and going to a big lineup and creating more mismatches off that. Big (likely with Crandall at point, but Hooker is obviously capable of running this as well, even Seales if needed) 1. Crandall, 2. Seales/McDermott, 3. Collins/Shields, 4. Shanks/Bernstine, 5. Cashman This lineup will be a work in progress to see who fits best where, when needed. I know thats vague, but different players can create problems defensively for other teams. I think the most productive lineup will be with Hooker and Crandall in at the same time with another guard playing up with them. The younger players ability to score, coupled with their unselfishness and desire to win should produce a very fun team to watch. Defensively, these guys all like playing pressure defense, so I'm sure we will see a more sustained full court man, with more rotation to keep them fresh. We also have players that are adept at getting boards, which is a need for this team. Here's to hoping for a much improved season! It should be a good one.

If you have an athletic child that is receiving offers from UND/NDSU I hope the kid picks UND! It is ultimately the players decision as he should be 18 or close to 18 and he is the one that has to live with his first decision that will probably have a major impact on his life. There are many factors that go into choosing: degrees offered, campus life, job placement and earning potential, and many athletic considerations (lets use basketball). Location-ease of family/friends to see games. These are generally home games with friendly crowd, as many wont travel to regular season away game due to environment and distance. There are exceptions, local away games, big conference away games. Depends on scheduling, and this is some factor but generally if a recruit is coming in a coach will notify the player that they will try to get a game in their home state. Style of play. The athlete has to look at what program fits them, as well as if it gives them a chance to succeed. TV coverage. Both conferences have ESPN Championship coverage. UND has FSN North package. Conference. The Summit footprint is the midwest, BSC is North Dakota and west. Many kids recruited from the Cities area and Dakotas have seen the midwest thru AAU and high school, they may want to see more. They have also heard of Weber St, Montana, EWU. I know kids that would love to go play in California, just one example. I think what UND has to offer is better. I believe the draw of a bigger, potentially stronger conference, is what the basketball athlete is looking for. However, there are variables that could sway a player to NDSU, but they are few. UND just has more recognized schools in conference and more opportunity for the player.

This is what concerns me the most. I dont think Faison, or anyone else in the athletic department, has much of a clue what a successful MBB program can do for the school. (this, is where the hockey first mindset comes into play, I hate to bring it up). The MBB program should define championship game as the goal next year. Short of that, it would be tough to continue status quo

I think its safe to say Hooker has improved from last year. Crandall can be a true point guard or he can get you twenty, can do both if he has to, will be interesting to see what role he is in. Seales is a great scorer, lots of left hand, but I havent seen anyone shut him down yet. Crandall and Hooker come from championship programs and know how to win. The other young guys also compete at a high level, some also winning state. I believe these guys will bring an expectation to win to the program and a practice regimen that will necessitate players get better or fall off. Shields showed flashes this year, but he needs to get stronger to get better defensively. you can see that from all the young bigs. Cashman looks promising, and Shanks seems to have the same issue as Shields. Nutrition and weight room, All these guys better be living in there this summer. Josh Collins brings some size already and he is adept at doing the dirty work; a fantastic rebounder and finds ways to be disruptive defensively. It could be a real athletic three guard lineup, or switch it up with Crandall at the 1, and have a big lineup starting at 6'3" and up.

That green/yellow is ugly in the NFL and even worse in NCAA basketball. Its even worse seeing them in the Championship again

With the players that should be playing the majority of minutes next year, I say he has to make a run at the BSC Championship. Good showing in the semis if it is a loss. Prefer to see a championship game though. A signature win would be nice, not NDSU, but the money games are tough to win. Sometimes, its difficult for a team to go overseas and play well that next season, but I think with the youth on this team, it could actually be beneficial for them to get extra practice and games in. If its borderline, i think you have to let him go. No reason to extend him, and certainly dont want a lame duck coach. So, its either get the team back to prominence or find another coach who will. Unfortunately, with the hockey AD, I dont know what he will deem acceptable.
