  1. My prediction for the day......Red with a big play.

I think our defense tackled well against Boise St., need to do that again today.  If we try and stop the run today like we did against Boise St., I think the game likely hinges on our secondary making plays on deep balls.   Time to make some plays on both sides of the ball!

How many 10+ play drives do you think you can put together vs an SDSU type defense? I would say not many. Need someone to make a play and get us a cheap touchdown. May even need multiple imo

Yep we need at least one cheap/easy TD because SDSU will be scoring.  We need to sustain drives even if we don't always score, no 3 and outs. I do love our long methodical drives and hope we have a few of those, but hope we get a cheap one somewhere. Where it's pick 6, punt return....long run or pass....whichever.

    Someone wanted the betting info.

SDSU opens 17.5 point favorites per 5dimes.

I would sure as heck hope we could beat that at a minimum. But thinking SDSU is probably good for at least 2 more explosive plays than us, meaning like 40-50 plus type plays that lead to TD's.....and at their place I can see why it's starting at this. Sure would be nice for us to get an explosive offense play instead of having to dink and dunk a 10 play drive for TD's.

We need to make some big plays, and limit theirs to flip the script!

The trick plays are cool when they work, but I'd like to see Danny not try to get too cute this game and just run what is working. Don't overthink things or make it more complicated than it needs to be in big games.

I kind of agree. Against good teams you can't do triple reverses and what not way behind the line of scrimmage because the defenders are faster and bigger and snuff it out.

However I'd be ok seeing that one short yardage play where Maag came sprinting across, Quincy under center, everyone thinking was going to hand to Maag or QB sneak it....but he pitched it out to the RB and took it in for a TD. Although I'd maybe rather see us run that play from our own 30 than their 20, because there is a good chance he could take it to the house. I think that one was against YSU.

ummmmm....marky g is a stud. our true freshman jerry kaminski reminds me of marky g but he'll be gone if he doesn't see the field this year or has to sit behind tommy two gloves next year....they both just "look" like qb's.....tommy=backup punter.

assume you haven't watched too much sioux football in the last 20 years?

Ummm since he is a Jacks fan.....he probably doesn't watch our message board weekly and realize there are a number of people on our board who don't think Tommy is that good. You are obviously at the top of that list.

I can't wait until #92 wins us a game this year and all of you haters/doubters can eat crow

I would love to eat crow and hoping I do. Prior to this year he has been good on Extra points and FG's under 40 yards. But from over 40 he is 2-8, making a 41 and 42 yard FG's. Below are his stats from the last two seasons. I don't hate him, I just hate that we have a 25% percent on kicks over 40 yards. And of the 6 misses, some of them have been really really bad misses....not even close. I hope he drills a 49 yard FG sometime and gets some confidence in his long kicks.  On the bright side, he hasn't missed on FG's under 40 yards. 12-12 under 40 is obviously as good as you can get.

That’s great and all but he also cannot be relied upon to kick a FG over 30 yards. Kicking is a liability

Yep. I'd like to see an analysis of his kicks over 40 yards. We barely even try them these days though becausewe are better off going for it on 4th down

Usually the head coach can get that done, but, well, yeah …

Cant win big games, makes you wonder what’s being said (or not being said) …

Yep. On occasion you can bring in a former team member to give a pep talk etc.. but right before the game and or during halftime, that is the head coaches responsibility.

No offense, but Bison may be as good as SDSU

Right, SDSU so far maybe isn't looking quite as good as we would have thought, but still very very good. And NDSU is maybe better than we were thinking.  We have NDSU at home though, we gotta win that one.

UND sitting at #14 visiting the #1 team in FCS. This is a potential program changing type of game. I believe there are certain games that can change the projection of the program. Second game in a row, we get one.

Here's how I see it. My guess at the probable outcomes.

    • 90% - Blow Out. The final score shows a game that was not competitive. A few mistakes, a few what could have been plays. Snowballs in the second half.
    • 7% - Lose a competitive game. UND plays well, just got beat by a better team that day.
    • 3% - Win

Until they prove that they can actually show up and play well in one of these games, hard to think we'll see anything different than the other type of performances we've seen under Bubba in these big-time games.

Unfortunately I have to agree with this. The comment "a few mistakes and a few what could have been plays, snowballs in the 2nd half" is our basic script for these types of games.  I do think we are capable of winning, but until we show we can actually do it there is no way I'd put money on us to win. I think someone said the spread started at 17. Given our history there is no reason it should be much smaller than that. We did play well there two years ago, but SDSU is a better team, but yet we should be better than 2 years ago as well.

I agree with the poster who said playing them now is better than later in the year, maybe they don't have all the kinks worked out yet with new coaching staff etc., but they will likely be rolling by the end of the year. It's time for us to make those game changing plays for once!

7-4 with losses to NDSU, SDSU and one other then I am disinterested in the status quo.  Staff probably returns but not going to follow much.

If this happens, I hope Bubba does what's best for the program and retires. I'm ok with Danny stepping in right away unless their is an amazing glaring candidate interested. I'd hate to have to go through a 30 day waiting period again while many of our best players left.  Not sure we would have held on to Kaminski if not for Danny during the recruiting process. Some new energy and excitement from the very top, if Danny is elevated, can make a difference. Remember Elioder saying he WANTED to come play for Danny and this offense, said it's fun.  Who wouldn't want to play for our offense. As head coach more of that could spill over to all facets of the team. Would be curious to see which route we'd go for OC under that scenario.

There has been a precipitous decline in kicking performance since 2014. 50 yarders are basically out of the question now.

I would roll on the floor in laughter/disgust if we even lined up for a 50 yard FG. I think I said last week or the week before, we probably only have made like 1 from more than 43 yards in 5 years. I mean it feels like we've made zero from beyond that but I am sure I am missing at least one.

Not sure how the kicker made every extra point last year. For a brief moment you could go grab another beer for the extra point, now it's back to sitting on edge of your chair hoping and praying it goes in.

We need an NIL just to get a kicker.

  13. On Friday I said.....they need to take full advantage of the opportunities that present themselves. That is what was so frustrating, the dropped picks....fumbling as getting near red zone before half.  We just can't ever seem to seize the moment. Not that we for sure win if the drops and fumble don't happen, but think it would have been a 4 quarter game at a minimum.

I feel like there was a certain point last year where the coaches told Tommy he needed to scramble more. He does have it in him, he needs to go back to it again.

That shalacking on the sidelines last week against NAU may have been in his head not sure.

Right before his fumble I was thinking he should have cut it up the middle. Looked like a small opening but I couldn't tell for sure from my angle how quickly that would have closed.  Hoping I can maybe find the game online somewhere this week to watch again.  The crappiest thing about that fumble was there was only about 1:40 left in the half, which means they had to run hurry up. At that point I knew they were gonna score a TD. If they were 5 minutes left maybe they run their regular offense and we hold them.

Yeah because you are definitely the originator of the phrase clean game, give me and effing break lol

If only 4 had held the easy pick six it would have put some pressure on BSU

As I think I mentioned once before the game, we have to take advantage of every opportunity that presents itself. That is a good example of when we didn't, a long with fumbling the ball away before half when going in for the tying score. I hate NDSU, but they always made those plays in those games when it mattered. They uncannily made those key plays every time when it mattered for like 10 straight years.

UND needed to play a clean game to pull off the upset. They came out and played sloppy, especially on offense. As such, you get what we got. A pretty decidable (and beyond disappointing) loss.

On to South Dakota State, but I’m sensing rinse and repeat cycle with this coaching staff. We will see if the bye week brings forth some improvement for a big game against the FCS #1 team.

The ONLY f'ing good thing about this is I hope our team comes in pissed off as hell against SDSU. I want a win against SDSU. I hope this loss sits in their crawl all season!
