I would venture to guess it's either mainly Holiday, or all Holiday footing the bill on that arrangement. Instead of paying at the pump and taking off, the coupon makes you go inside the Holiday store to pay, and they're hoping to sell confections to you once you step inside.

There is no hard earned perk- we're all paying 3-5% more for everything we purchase because of the convenience of using credit cards. In this topic of gas prices, I brought it up because margins on gas are thin and just the credit card fee alone is a huge expense for the gas retailer.

Just wondering, how difficult was it to submit an acceptable proposal? I remember reading Ben Brien said he would be very interested in designing the new logo. Is he connected to any of the companies that submitted?

Yep, that's what I do, too. And locally here in the hinterlands, i'll use my local charge card and pay the bill once a month. They offer 5 to 10 cents off per gallon for using the local card vs. using a regular credit card.

Great post. You are exactly correct on the terminals being a big factor. Even in Fargo, I know of trucks standing in long lines for a retailer, thinking they were going to get filled at price X. And by the time they got to the front of the line and filled, wholesale gas price had risen 20 cents. But heck, since we don't know anything for sure, let's just blame the retailer, who gross margins 25-30 cents at the most per gallon..... And 1/3 of that margin gets sent to Visa the instant you swipe your credit card.

I guess I don't quite follow what you're saying. On the one hand we should get away from the North Dakota mindset, but on the other hand ND and UND produce talented, creative people. ? So should we or shouldn't we employ someone from the area with ties to UND to design it? I think we should. Sort of like looking for a new president....there are people with UND ties that would do an outstanding job, but i'm guessing we'll end up with a lunatic liberal as per usual in academia. I've seen some creative ideas here on this site that include a detail here or there that remind of the previous logo, which looked really nice, but if we end up with something completely different, that's ok, too, One thing I do know is I will be one of the last people to piss and moan about whatever the logo is.

Unless there's UND grads working at any of those firms, I can't see how there will be any effort made to retain some details from the old logo. Which is unfortunate.
