  1. When you are conference-less, exactly how well will recruiting go? But, I forget, buttfootball. That's all that matters. If all you had was the MVFC, you'd be fine with that I'm sure.
  2. I think the big schools want to get rid of a few of the smaller conferences, as the Big East splitting takes one more at-large bid away. What the big schools want, they get. In an earlier time, I think you'd be right, but in this case it would mean more $'s to the big conferences. They want to squeeze that money turnip dry. Keeping Eastern Michigan and Idaho in FBS is actually advantageous, as it supplies more teams that will accept guarantee games, lowering the price. The NCAA enforced the grace rule against the CHA (only five schools are needed for an autobid in hockey, and the CHA couldn't get back to 5 schools), so its not like there isn't precedent.
  3. A multisports conference has to sponsor either (a) men's basketball and men's football, or (b) men's basketball and two other men's team sports (like soccer, baseball, lacrosse, volleyball, hockey, water polo). Men's individual sports like cross country, track, wrestling, golf, tennis, even if they have team scores, can't count. If basketball drops to five full DI members, or the other two designated men's sports drop to four full DI members, the conference automatically loses it's recognition, as grace periods are not given for having two schools beneath the minimum (being one short of the minimum allows a two year grace period). The Summit could still get an autobid for men's soccer, and the women's teams sports, but lose its basketball bid and baseball autobid.
  4. Reading BIsonville is just hilarious. Some SDSU fans there are saying that UND fans are the ones making up issues about how the Summit has major problems, yet these same SDSU fans weren't even aware that the Summit is already in the grace period for baseball (and the Summit has to have six full DI teams in baseball and men's soccer to continue as an NCAA conference, as well as seven DI full members). So if Oakland is going to the Horizon for next season ... the the Summit will be down to four DI baseball teams (NDSU, SDSU, WIU, and IPFW, as Omaha won't count for two more years), which means ... The Summit's grace period for baseball becomes forfeited, as no conference can fall two teams below the minimum and be eligible for a grace period .... Which means the Summit becomes officially defunct in the eyes of the NCAA after July 1st. Which means by July 1 the Summit has to either offer NJIT full membership to get back to 5, or get down on hands and knees and beg UND to join for baseball only. Maybe UND can demand a few goodies: like all baseball travel paid for by the Summit and all of NDSU/SDSU/USD must agree to a permanent arrangement for football scheduling in order for UND to join for baseball only and save the Summit.
  5. The volleyball team had spring games at the U of M last weekend and went 2-4. Split with both UNI and Iowa St and lost to Concordia-St Paul. Concordia-SP is an outstanding team, as it has won six DII championships in a row, and can often pick up Twin Cities players after UM has picked them over. Ct 2 UNI vs Concordia, 21-25, 24-26 Iowa St vs North Dakota, 23-25, 25-13 UNI vs Iowa St, 25-15, 16-25 Concordia vs ND, 24-26, 25-14 ND vs UNI, 30-32, 25-10 Concordia vs IA St, 25-22, 25-20 http://www.gophersports.com/sports/w-volley/spec-rel/042013aab.html
  6. Christianity has renounced war and crusades as a way of advancing Christianity. The sad fact is that Islam has not rejected war or jihad as a matter of advancing Muslims and the Islamic faith. Name one major Islamic leader in the world that has rejected jihad? Name one. Muslim leaders are fearful of going against the the idea of jihad, as they then will become the focus of a jihad against them. Your pontificating shows your lack of knowledge to even be in this discussion. Earlier, you stated that religion is a primary cause of war. What a total croc. Morality and economics and freedom for ethnic groups are the primary cause of war. World War I, was that caused by religion? No. WW II, was that caused by religion? No. It was caused by the lack of religion and morality in Germany. The Korean War, was that caused by religion? No. It was caused by the lack thereof in China and N Korea. The Vietnam War, was that caused by religion? No. It was caused by devotion to a godless theology dominated by a nationalist leader. The Cold War, was that caused by religion? It was caused by the lack of religion and basic human rights in the Soviet Union. The US Civil War, was that caused by religion? No. It was caused by the lack of respect for human dignity. The US Revolutionary War, was that caused by religion? No. It was caused by the lack of respect for human rights. The Gulf War, was that caused by religion? No. Caused by an Iraqi dictator. The Irag War, was that caused by religion? No. The Iragi dictator did not abide by the peace treaty. The Afghan/Taliban War, was that caused by religion? Yes. Taliban and Al Queada want to eliminate non-Muslim influence from the earth.
  7. http://www.politico....0326.html?hp=l1 The brothers were of Chechen heritage, but at least the younger brother was born in Krygyzstan, as there have been two recent wars between Chechnya and Russia for Chechen independence, and many Chechens fled their homeland during that time. Chechens are mainly Muslim and have been aligned with Al Qaeda and other Islamic groups against Russia. April 16 is an important date for Chechen's, as that was the end of the 2nd Chechen war against Russia. The time of the Boston Marathon bombing was just minutes before the dawn of the 16th local time in Chechnya. http://en.wikipedia....ond_Chechen_War One of the most diabolical terrorists attack was the one launched by Chechens on the Beslan school in North Ossetia, which is a Russian republic neighboring Chechnya with Ossetian people that are pro-Russian, mainly due to shared religion. Chechen terrorists have been responsible for many attacks in Russia, and many are fearful that the Chechens will be targeting the 2014 Olympics in Sochi. http://en.wikipedia...._hostage_crisis
  8. Could see them adding them for football, but adding them for other sports just limits how often any school can go to the Big Dance. With the rate FCS schools are moving to FBS, the Big Sky and FCS championship might be one and the same.
  9. They would need to be DI within two years rather than the four year transition required, which the NCAA probably wouldn't allow, otherwise the Summit would be short of DI members. Happen to think the situation is pretty bleak for the other Dakotas. Thank God for a stable Big Sky.
  10. The WAC took in most of the Great West schools, and the WAC would have an exit fee and maybe forced on them a several year commitment. Only NJIT is left to pick up. Can't see Horizon schools choosing the Summit when that means the Horizon schools have to pay an exit fee and lose out on an 1/8th share of Butler's $4 mill NCAA credits for the next 4 years. The Horizon going to pick schools based on markets: even UMKC and Omaha would get looks before the Dakota's or W Ill. The Dakota's could be hung out to dry with other DII schools or be forced into the WAC, which would likely take them. Maybe there could be a deal with an eastern or southern league that will need teams too.
  11. The Summit can lose their men's basketball autobid if they don't get to six baseball teams or if they don't have at least seven full members (Omaha won't count for a couple more years until they finish their transition). In Baseball, the Summit doesn't have enough members now if Oakland leaves (NDSU, SDSU, Omaha, W Ill, IPFW) and UND and UNC won't be joining. In full membership, the MVC grabbed another Horizon team, so the Horizon needs to add two members, likely from the Summit League. The Atlantic 10 could still steal members from the Horizon (like Detroit or Valparaiso or Cleveland), which could force the Horizon to raid the Summit even deeper. There is also talk that the Horizon could lose two more - Illinois-Chicago and Valpo - to the MVC if the Missouri Valley decides to go all in on the Chicago area and go to 12 members. With the Horizon League being a much richer conference than the Summit (HL has a TV contract and has Butlers NCAA credits going out for at least four more years that are worth millions), practically any Summit League team would leave for there in a minute. So what will happen? Almost would feel sorry for these fans if they get relegated to independence (but then again, UND would be able to clean up on Minnesota basketball and volleyball recruiting.)
  12. Idalski was signed to nearly that salary before the twins arrived. Moreover, no other coach except Hakstol has had the opportunity to qualify for the NCAA playoffs two years in a row, nor do they have the facilities to match for recruiting.
  13. This sources says the MVC goes to 12, with Loyola, UIC, and team to be determined (either UMKC, Oral Roberts, or, quess who? ..... Nebraska-Omaha.) https://twitter.com/...183451731787777 Taylor now has all kinds of problems: football schedule and Summit League that won't have enough teams. Their treatment of UND is coming home to roost.
  14. Or how does it sit with the other coaches that Idalski is the second highest paid coach? More than anyone but Hakstol? Part of it has to do withTitle IX equality issues, as pay for women's coaches is supposed to be somewhat "equitable".
  15. He's from Cloquet, Mn, so UND would be his closest opportunity to play near home.
  16. See your points, but if we're going to participate in a sport, would rather they be recruiting and playing at the highest levels possible.
  17. Think the WAC is far better for recruiting for swimming and baseball, as even with a weakened WAC those two sports are still strong. The WAC is also far better for baseball because conference games can be scheduled in southern locations earlier in the season. If UND had been in the Summit this year, nobody in the Summit would play for another week. The Summit has to have a predetermined location for several reasons: the league needs money (has no income from TV), travel to places like Centenary or S Utah would have been too expensive on little notice, and the league has a lot of teams with no fan base or that play in a tiny gym. The Big Sky has some of the same issues, but Weber St and Montana are usually the top teams that provide a decent gate. The talk of a central location for the Big Sky probably heated up when UND showed it has potential to host.
  18. So he's both? On bisonville, seems like they have a lot of experience with a trans. Take it there.
  19. Izzo sent this out to appease Taylor, who knows NDSU won't meet their scheduling desires. Taylor is fearful. NDSU wouldn't have a scheduling issue if they just signed a home and home with UND.
  20. Really don't think our talent base is that much different than Florida Gulf Coast. Where FGCU excelled well beyond UND is with the 3 pt shot.
  21. Would think that Ole Miss also owes UND a return trip in volleyball, but likely not in the same tournament that Texas A&M will come for as both are in the SEC. Just having Texas A&M at the Betty makes UND's own tournament very attractive. With Texas A&M, NDSU, SDSU, as well as challenging for the Big Sky, hopefully average attendance will be over 1500. South Florida seems to owe women's basketball a return trip. For volleyball, the spring "exhibition" season seems to be going very well:
  22. Guess we're just country hicks that can't compare in sophistication with a grad of MooU. Since you've lived in Fargo, guess you've seen all the world has to offer. So you're saying that a community that grows it's apartment units by 10% in a year isn't a big deal? It would be a big deal in Phoenix or Minneapolis. http://minnesota.publicradio.org/display/web/2013/01/20/business/apartment-building-boom-grand-forks
  23. Take it in context of what is happening further south on 42nd. Maybe you haven't read the papers on how little housing there is available in Grand Forks? http://www.prairiebizmag.com/event/article/id/13087/ http://gfplanning.weebly.com/the-grove---campus-crest-apartments.html
  24. On the facilities subject: With the new medical school going in at the site of the current soccer field, isn't the plan to relocate the soccer field to the current student parking lot on the southeast corner of University and Columbia? A new parking ramp be needed on the east side Columbia to replace the loss of parking spots to the new field. How's the parking ramp and new soccer field going to be funded?
  25. From last summer, talking about rainbows and unicorns: NDSU president thinks Summit League is going in right direction http://www.bakkentoday.com/event/article/id/365020/publisher_ID/1/
