yep, you've one the 10 of the last 13 games key word being 'last', in my book i hope they are the last ones
-
you not only bring up hockey, but women's hockey in a football forum you sioux fans are funny sometimes
-
i took at chance at that one, guess i lost
-
that's funny i like getting naval analogies from a guy whose probably never seen the ocean let a lone a ship
-
sorry, missed that. the point still remains would a kid pick going .500 or going .700+ and making the tournament once or twice, it's not very close in my book. if you want to talk about SU go over to Bisonville and do it, i'd be happy to respond.

Sicatoka, I don't think you get the 'arms race' analogy, bigmgr has it right. If your definition were correct it would be a simple 'investment strategy'. They are not spending money to make money, they are spending money to stop from losing it. If a school falls to far behind, in terms of facilities and quality of teams they risk losing far more than if they spent money up front and still incurred annual loses. A simple game theory representation would be as follows: Two groups A and B Both Build Up (-1,-1) A Builds Up, B doesn't (2,-5) B Builds Up, A doesn't (-5,2) Neither Build Up (0,0) where the value in parenthesis are (payoff to A, payoff to B) This structure, results with both groups 'building up' even though they would be better off if they both didn't (a Nash Equilibrium). This is an 'arms race'.

i think to be fair and contradict the definition used by usatoday 1. flagship schools are the premier state institution of higher learning, i.e. who's the best 2. you cannot, by definition, have more than one flagship as a result some states don't have one Minnesota, Wisconsin, New Hampshire, ... have flagships North Dakota, Iowa, Indiana do not
-
and thus California has 40+ flagship universities
-
that's a very good point, and one that most opponents who work in academia refer too, but many of these individuals think sports should be eliminated as a whole also, while there is definitely some truth to this using examples doesn't prove anything some alumni will only donate to athletics there are a lot of non-alumni/sports fans who donate for better seats at events and give nothing to the university itself and there are those who shift donations that would have gone to the university, but instead send it to athletics as far as enrollment, that's not that big of a deal, i knew a few kids who went to UND and were influenced by the success of its hockey program, but they probably would have gone there anyway it feels pretty good as a senior to be walking around high school with a national championship t-shirt of the university you will be attending, but the effects are still marginal

Here are some facts, not stats, not ratings NDSU DIAA Valpo DIAA UND D2 Mary NAIA Montana Tech NAIA (painful for us Bison Fans, but True) This is what most people see, then they look at the rankings, the conference standings, etc. Only nerds like me look at ratings. Jim, I really enjoyed the background on the Massey that you did.

sounds good, call up gene and schedule a game

I agree completely, and that's why I'd like some evidence that rt is doing some research/preparation. There's gotta be some smoke somewhere on UND's campus. UND might be left out in the cold on this if NDSU/SDSU get in.
-
riverman, in response to your quote a couple of facts 1. UND would get MORE exposure being DI 2. Your building are going to get OLDER with time yes, you get great exposure from hockey and it would be difficult for your buildings to be any newer (i think i've alluded to this things before
-
your last line brings up a good point, which i pointed out earlier it takes a lot of effort for the athletic department to keep UND performing like it is and it would take a lot more effort to move to DI i don't see how rt can be plotting the move and keep it secret without rattling the bushes enough for someone to notice i think that the best bet for UND is to actively and aggressively pursue the Big Sky Conference, PUBLICLY, i think it's the best shot they or any other school in the region has in getting into a respectable, logical conference in the next ten years
-
I have a question related to this string and I'll definitely take guesses for answers which UND sports can be considered 'self-supporting' men's hockey is a gimme football i say yes any others? especially women's hockey, and men's and women's basketball if anybody has an idea figures on how much they generate and how much they spend would be of interest, this would exclude alumni contributions/facility improvement type stuff also how much do your alumni contribute per year both including and excluding hockey
-
Good try UND Fan, I'm going to post anyways I don't think that UND will have difficulty fielding decent teams in any sports at the DI level---as I've stated before you are a DI team in D2 clothing, as this is a football forum i stick to that sport There is a lot of talent in the Dakotas and Minnesota to do 'ok' you pull in a few kids from Wisconsin, Chicago and the south for some additional speed and your set. One big difference is you may need to start red shirting some kids, get them in the weight room and what not, when you may not have had to do that before I don't see how you wouldn't be a rated team in DIAA Football in most weeks and most years
-
i'd beat the first year you'd get 10,000 UND fans, but probably only 20,000 Minnesota fans, which means a half empty dome, but they get that when they big 10 teams plus the pr would be worth just as much as the money they'd be taking home
-
that's a really good idea, especially given the current number of students who are from the cities, a proportion which will only grow with time, and the number of graduates/fans down there
-
that's why i'm conflicted about UND moving up you have to pick moderately successful DI, which I think UND would be or fill up your arenas with championship banners from now until the end of time
-
i feel like we're getting ready to bash the bison, which i don't have a problem with, let's do it at bisonville if i misunderstood, and i do that quite often while on message boards, you may have been commenting on the position that UND will be in if/when they move to DI to speak generally, i believe that 'money games' can be great things for DIAA football teams, look at McNeese State who gets crushed by Nebraska takes its half a million dollars home, builds a program and beats up on other opponents in its division, i would fully expect UND to do the same if/when they move up, being a fan of a former rival, i won't say a word if UND gets beat 62 by K-State, that's how DIAA works, i would expect UND to take that $400,000 grand home and put it to good use in their athletic department paying for scholarships and maintaining your facilities
-
this would be a great topic for a bison message board
-
you did, but no need to hold up the string until wyobison admits his mistake
-
hold on there mafiaman, we're posting about UND moving up, not lsu and clemson sharing a stadium nickname let's get back on topic
-
when ever i mentioned ndsu it was either with respect to UND or in response to a question about our team, read the posts again yes, i admit to taking a couple of shots, but took some myself could we please get this string back to the issue of UND moving up?
