  7. here is the link to the Big Sky TV http://www.americaonesports.com/bigsky.asp
  8. NAU is taking it to Montana State 46-28 at the half.
  9. The significant news from that game is that Montana finally got the return Will Cherry, the presumed favorite for Big Sky player of the year, and his rust showed in this game. He will improve over time, but they got killed on the boards and had a chance to win the game TWICE from the line (sound familiar?) and didn't get it done. Wolters shot 5-21 from the field, but was picked up by Fiegen and Dysktra. Yeah, not good. The best win the Sky got IMO was Weber knocking off Dayton. Not only do we start conference play tonight against SUU, but NAU and Montana State will get it on in Flagstaff.
  10. I believe that 15 people from the FCS were taken in the 2012 NFL draft
  11. My only guess would be that some people feel that Idalski has been underachieving with his teams the past 3 years (including this one) because he has had Jocelyn and Monique.
  12. Despite the fact that it sounds more than likely we will be out 2 starters, we still need to win this game. We still have plenty of talent that we should be able to take care of business. I am tired of the road woes. If are seriously going to contend for this thing, its starts on Monday. Antwi, Anderson,Schuler,Webb,Wilmer,Traylor,Allard,Archer,Stockdale,Benton... Its time to ball.
  13. UND decides to wake up in the 2nd half and take down Jamestown 63-49. Next up, SUU!
  14. Jamestown is leading UND at the half 26-25 Big story in this game is that UND is playing with 9 players in this game. Wall and Houdek are out nursing injuries and Burck is at her sister's wedding The Jimmies shot 56%, but turned the ball over 19 times. UND is shooting 25%
  15. UND took care of business against a hapless Presentation team. Now UND (2-6) will travel down to Cedar City, Utah on Monday to take on fellow Big Sky newbie Southern Utah. Tip off is at 8:30 PM Media: Game will be on BigSkyTV and will be on the UND radio Network (100.3 FM in GF) History: This will be the first ever meeting between the 2 schools About the Southern Utah Thunderbirds (2-6): The T-Birds are coached by Nick Robinson (1st year). Like UND, SUU is new to the Big Sky world after spending the last 15 seasons in the Summit League. Also like UND they do not have a D-1 victory on the season. In the coaches and media preseason poll, they were picked 10th in both polls. SUU has had a couple of good performances this year, but also have thrown in several stinkers as well. They have done a good job in crushing the boards in the past 5 games and they are 2nd in the conference in Rebounds Per Game (38.0, .5 behind Weber). However, they have struggled in shooting the ball, especially behind the arch this year. While SUU does have a couple of nice pieces to their team, it appears it is going to be a little while before SUU makes some noise in the Sky. Did You Know: Jamal Webb of UND is currenty 5th in the Big Sky in Assists and now leads the conference in steals Despite the teams shooting woes, SUU has 2 players in the top 10 in ppg in Heuir (8th) and Stevenett (10th) SUU Jayson Cheeseman leads the Big Sky in Blocks Per Game Lenny Antwi is 6th in the Big Sky in 3 point shooting Key Players: #3 6-2 SR G Damon Heuir (14.0 PPG, 4.3RPG, 3.9TPG, .415 FG%) This Aussie has hops! Watch his rejection on the Big Sky Blog from the San Diego game, that was something else for a 6-2 guard. After a slow start to the year, he has really pick things up and he along with Stevenett have given SUU a potent 1-2 punch. For his size, he is a pretty nice rebounder and if you dont pay attention he might sneak 6,7,8 boards a game. This Aussie will do what he can do get to the rack. The main problem with this kid is he can be a little careless with the ball and his 3 point shot hasn't been the hottest. A high Turnover point guard against the Big Sky's leading steal man? Sounds like a great match up #21 6-7 SR F Jackson Stevenett(13.4 PPG, 5.7RPG, .909FT%, .375 3P%) Their best overall player on the team. He has a good jumper, which he can hit from 3, great rebounder, plays decent D, and has been automatic from the line. He has had games where he has been in foul trouble and has thrown up a couple of clunkers in games this year (0-10 from the field in a 61-52 loss to TCU). Most likely our biggest matchup problem and it would be very beneficial to try and get him into foul trouble early. Need to take him out of the game. #50 6-11 JR C Jayson Cheeseman (6.0 PPG, 2.8BPG, 5.1RPG, .415 FG%) Don't laugh at his name, this kid know his role very well. The clubhouse leader for the Mutumbo award (blocks). He is also a very good rebounder in his own right as well. Uses his big body well to his advantage. He is going to make our guards driving abilities a little bit more difficult. Can't sleep on him on offense or else he can get a cheap 8-12 points. Going to have our work cut out for us on this guy. Wilmer is going to need to actually play up to his 6'10 height to be successful with this kid. Keys to the game: 1) SUU rest or rust: When they play us on Monday, they will have had 13 days of rest. This now plays into the old rest vs rust debate. I think this is something that UND needs to exploit right away. Press the action 2) Injuries: The biggest question is whether Brekke will be good to go on Monday. Having him back would be a major jolt to our bigs and getting a decent rebounder back will help with the point below. 3) Rebounding: Cannot stress this enough, we need to be able to rebound if we are going to have success in this game. If we bring our Hawaii performance on the boards we will more than likely win this game, if we bring our NDSU effort, we will more than likely lose 4) Free Throws: Got to make them. 5) Guards: lets get some pressure on this team to do something on offense. Bury your shots early and often. Our point guards need to play discipline and clean when running the show. 6) Showtime: First conference game of the year. If we are seriously going to challenge, we need to win these games Lets get the conference season started right! The time is nearly over!
  16. I knew I wasn't crazy http://www.grandforksherald.com/event/article/id/251591/ “Brandon wasn’t at the game,” Jones said. “The medical staff is being very cautious with him. We’re hopefully that by Monday he’ll be ready to go.”
  17. So I almost saw live 2 things I thought were impossible 1) We almost didn't commit a foul in the first half (33.1 seconds away) 2) Anderson almost threw one down thoughts on the game -Presentation is a bad, bad, bad.... team. They came with the big school/small school approach in which they slowed the game way down and limited UND possessions. It wasn't a bad strategy to employ, but once they got down my 30, it was pretty much done away with The Players -Traylor: I think he needed a game like this, just to get some positive vibes going for him. What I really liked was he was knocking in a couple of mid range jumpers. Lets see if this is the spark that he needs to start putting it all together -Archer: Had an underrated performance tonight. Kinda got lost in the shuffle was he got a couple nice passes to his fellow post players. Would love to see some more of the post-to-post passing -Wilmer: I expected more from Wilmer, but was left a bit disappointed. Had 6 rebounds, but should have had more. Just seemed off tonight. Was able to get a few blocks tonight, but that was to be expected -Allard: Was more aggressive tonight and he too had a couple of nice passes to the post. -Stockdale: Way to make the most of your minutes Bouncy! had a nice bucket -Benton: Made the most of his minutes I thought. What I like is that he isn't afraid to put it up when he needs to. -Anderson: Was the most efficient of all the guards tonight Filled up the stat sheet nicely, and that dunk attempt was soooo close. I think his 3 point shooting is starting to come back to form a little -Webb: He can get steals like no other, let me tell ya. But come on, you need to start playing better with the ball in your hand. You cannot turn the ball over 6 times!!!! Quit trying to force everything, you should know better by now -Schuler: His shot starting looking better more towards the end of the game than the beginning, was efficient with the ball with 3 assists. -Antwi: He didn't look too bad out there, he got a couple of great looks and buried them and then a couple of good looks that didn't quite go in. Things I didn't like -Zone execution to start: Was kinda frustrated with the effort in the beginning when Presentation showed zone. Too much standing around. Eventually this was corrected, but come on. Antwi and Schuler eyes should light up like a christmas tree when you see a zone -Webb's TO: If we are going to make a serious run at this thing, then Webb needs to cut his current TO rate of 4.6 in half. You cannot force it in every time. Gotta show some patience. Saw a lot of good things, saw some not so good things. Its nice to see them win one for a change, but now the moment we have all be waiting for is coming. Big Sky play starts on Monday.
  18. I agree as well, if Brekke is out a significant amount of time, it is really going to put Jones in a very tough spot. This is why not having Nash eligible hurts us a ton. At the very least, he can give us much needed depth at the 4. Pretty much going to have a rotation of 8 people tomorrow night. Its time for the battered senior class to step up and make their impact over the next fews games. Wilmer has at least done it from time to time, but he needs to be more consistent. Its time for Allard to bring it, the ice is breaking around his feet when it comes to me. Traylor as well, this is his perfect opportunity to get some good work in (wonder if he starts tomorrow night). I could see this lineup Webb Anderson Schuler Traylor Witmer Antwi Archer Allard Benton Bouncy (Stockdale) On chat today, it was said that Huff has been practicing, so at the very least we have some good news on that department. I'll be at the game, might as well check out the team 1 more time before heading out for break.
  19. Congrats to Emily Evers for being named Co-Big Sky Player of the week! http://www.undsports.com//ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=13500&ATCLID=205823323
  20. Going to admit right now, this will be my toughest preview of the year. Very hard to write about a team you can't really research on After a game in which pretty much nothing went right against NDSU, UND (1-6) will host Presentation College, a D-III independent team from Aberdeen, South Dakota. MEDIA: Game will be on BigSkyTV and will be on 100.3 FM in Grand Forks. HISTORY: First Meeting Ever ABOUT PRESENTATION COLLEGE (4-5) The Saints are coached by Jeremy Reigel (3rd Season). Taking 1 look at their roster, I notice one thing... they are woefully undersized. Their tallest guy is 6'5. With a team that I know nothing about, I took a look at who they have played. They lost an exhibition game by 14 against UM-Crookston. They also have losses against VCSU and Minnesota-Morris as well. KEYS TO THE GAME: 1) If we do not kill these guys in the rebounds, I might seriously walk on the court and show them how its done. 2) You have the talent, but they will come out firing because they know of the Mayville State game of 2009. Don't mess around, crush their hope early. Take all of your frustrations from the past 3 weeks and just blow them out of the water 3) Get Healthy: Get through this game without anymore injuries please. I understand that there was a TON of crowing about this game, while I still hate that this game is on the schedule, given the events of the season so far. My hatred has gone down a tick.
  21. There are a few positives to take away from this game: -Free Throw shooting: After that clunker against UMKC, they went 16-19 from the line. This makes it the 5th game out of 7 that they have shot above 70% as a team. We are now shooting 68.9% on the year as a team (we drop about 8-10% from the UMKC game so this is a nice bump) -Wilmer: While his rebounding wasn't the greatest, okay it sucked, and he fouled out, but he did give us at least SOME post position. Out of the 3 seniors that have played he has played the best (which is a big surprise to me, I thought it would be Allard). Negatives: -Rebounding: SUCKED! You do not give up 18 Offensive rebound, I don't care if Brekke was knocked out of the game, rebounding is all about want and heart. If you are an undersized team you need to be more energenic and work harder to get every loose ball. We didn't do that. We cut those O-Board in half and this game gets a lot more interesting. Hawaii was way bigger than us and we were dead even with them on the boards! -Traylor: Bjorklund worked him like Marquez worked Pac-Man in the 6th round. We needed him to step up once Brekke went down and he proceded to get called for 3 Illegal Screens -Turnovers: Will give credit that NDSU D's caused most of them, but come on guys... you need to adjust -Allard: My patients is growing thin with this kid, has done nothing since the first 2 games of the year and needs to step it up or else lose more minutes to Brekke, Traylor, Wilmer and Archer. There is a lot more I can add, but I do not have time. It was a very poor effort (not as bad as our UNI effort, that was a lot worse that this). After that rebounding performance, I felt like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eyhcWvBpSfo Im not. 1-6 when we should be at least 3-3 is not acceptable. Be differerent if was 6 ranked teams but not with the schedule we have. Its time to step up, we are officially 1 week away from the conference season starting. I would bet Huff comes back with a huge chip on his shoulder and play like he did to finish the year last year. Unfortunately we do not know how much longer he will be out. I hope Brekke concussion isn't serious and they took him out as a precaution. What 8 man rotation were you thinking something like this? (not my lineup, just in a random order) Anderson Antwi Brekke Huff Schuler Webb Traylor some combination of Wilmer/Allard/Archer?
  22. No, it would be much much worse. Imaging the current men's hockey team starting like that and the comments being made.
  23. Got smacked with an inadvertant elbow in the head. Hopefully its not a concussion
  24. Going to wait a few hours before posting thoughts on the game so I have a clear head to what I have to say, I am not very happy at this moment and don't want emotions to get into my points
