Exactly. A losing team will just get worse unless it's given a shot in the arm (new coach, better scheduling, more money, etc.). Cutting costs rather than working to increase revenues is how most downward spirals start, just look at Sears, Kmart, Best Buy, JCPenny etc.

Now that it appears Notre Dame gets to play on their home ice because no other Midwest team bid to host and UND/Scheels won their bid thanks to being the only non-home ice arena in the west to place a bid, it appears we may have shot ourselves in the foot by placing bids for both REA and Scheels.

It's an infraction that is never monitored, happens everywhere, and was only pointed out in this case because the ncaa investigators spent a lot of time and money on Montana and couldn't come up with much to show for it. The bail payments were also paid by a parent of a local member of the team who was repaid by the arrested players' parents. It's not in any way uncommon for a local team member's parent to become the team mom and it would've been pretty difficult for the arrested players' parents to bail them out when they didn't live there. The ncaa investigators found that the athletic director was aware of the free legal services but Pflugrad wasn't. Plenty of sh*t has been thrown at Pflugrad, but IMO none of it sticks.

This team has never shown the desire or ability to do that.

What all those articles fail to mention is those "boosters" were parents of members of the team. I know some of the local UND parents have their kid(s) and his/her friends (teammates) over for meals too. There's nothing unusual about it. I wasn't a college athlete and neither were most of my friends, but for some reason my parents (UND boosters) fed us on occasion anyway. The fact that it is considered an infraction is ridiculous.

I don't know that the WAC can be considered big-time anymore, but it's a conference.

I find him quite enjoyable when he's ripping on the ncaa, notre dame, and espn.
