  1. Brian Bonin was the king of excessive goal celebrations. Man, I could not stand him when he was wearing Maroon and Gold!
  2. I figured someone would get riled up about what I wrote. That's fine. And no, I wouldn't toss it in the garbage OR pawn it off for cash. That would be disrespectful of the Olympics and of the team I played on. But I certainly wouldn't celebrate and be happy about it. I suppose in five or ten years, I would feel differently than the day after, but I still would regret not winning what I set out to win and that was Gold. I am sure the girls on that team are not in a happy or celebratory mood right now and I do not blame them. I guess all I want is for USA Hockey (USA anything, really) to not settle for anything less than Gold and not be satisfied with Silver or Bronze. Just as I have high standards for our Fighting Sioux teams. And I think the Women's Hockey program will continue to win international tournaments and will be back in the hunt in 2014 in Russia. But that doesn't make the losses suck any less. Again, just my opinion. Feel free to flame away if you wish.
  3. I saw something in the Heraldo recently that South and Davies were going to co-op in some sports (including boy's hockey) because neither school would have the numbers to have teams of their own. If so, I don't think either of those schools will be dominant in the state anytime soon. As for the dominance of Fargo youth hockey "for years and years", it hasn't translated into State Championships at the High School level. I remember a few years ago Fargo South fans were on this forum talking about winning "the next four to five State Titles" and being "the best high school in North Dakota" and blah, blah, blah. And the last time I checked, the all-powerful FSH Bruins have a grand total of three State Championships (1994, 1999 and 2006). That's it. If that's dominance, I've got some oceanfront property in Wyoming I want to sell you. The Grafton-Park River Spoilers (whom I am not fond of either) have five State Championships. That must bruise the "Imperial Cass County" ego to be chasing little Grafton-Park River in anything! As for North, I don't know what will change the sorry state of their program except a big demographic shift in Fargo that will bring more families to the north end of town. Like in Grand Forks, most of the growth in Fargo is on the south end and that is where most of the hockey-playing kids are. But I guess we will find out.
  4. I graduated from Central in 1993. Back when I was going to school there, anything less than a State Championship was considered a disappointing season. During the 1990's and 2000's (with the exception of 2002-2005), it devolved into "Oh, look, we made State this year! This is awesome!" It's good to see Central back to their old dominant self.
  5. No disrespect to Team USA, but I wouldn't even care about winning a Silver Medal in a team sport like hockey or even basketball. Runner-Up is one of the worst things to be in a team sport and I can't imagine how painful it is for them. It's like getting the Runner-Up trophy in the Frozen Four; nobody even wants to touch it or carry it around. I think I have heard some NHL players say that it is better to not make the playoffs than to get to the Stanley Cup Finals and lose. Unless you are on a team that was not expected to win a medal at all, winning Silver really doesn't feel like winning at all. I think I would take my Silver Medal and put it in a safe and just leave it there. I do think it is a little different in individual sports, but in team sports Runner-Up just plain sucks. Just my opinion, nothing more.
  6. What a cheap hack! If he keeps this up, he'll have a big target on his head every week. The problem is, the league has been very reluctant to take action against stuff like this, so Marvin has a blank check to do whatever he wants.
  7. Things are starting to fall into place for us to make the patented Hakstol Second Half Surge. CC is starting to crumble down the stretch like always and with a sweep next weekend we'll have a four point lead on them. We are putting together solid 60 minute games. Duluth plays Rodentia next weekend and hopefully the Dogs can keep the Rodents off of our backs in the standings. And we finish the regular season with last place Michigan Tech at home. Everything is in place for us to get home ice and get to the Final Five and keep improving our Pairwise Ranking. All we have to do is keep winning. GO SIOUX!!!
  8. Anything that makes us forget about the infernal Olsen twins is a good thing! ABC used to ram them down our throats in the 1990's. Thank God they are adults now and the media doesn't seem to care about what they are doing. As for the Lamoureux twins, I can't wait to get them into Green and White uniforms. They will help push the women's program to the next level; we are really close to a big breakout right now.
  9. I really hope that said players are single. We don't want a Tiger Woods style scandal in the NHL.
  10. In other words, anything north of Harwood, south of Horace, west of Casselton and east of Dilworth (I suggest we lump Cass and Clay counties together) is "International" and really doesn't matter.
  11. You are right, some southern markets have not worked out. But some places (Carolina, Dallas, Tampa) have worked out all right. Each of those places have won a Stanley Cup. And Nashville has built a solid, consistent team. I do think Hamilton (Ont.), Winnipeg and Quebec City should get a chance at the NHL. The fan interest and support would make up for the lack of population base. What's the point of having a large metro area if 95% of them don't care about hockey and won't give it a chance?
  12. USA over China 8-0 early in the third period. Americans have let up a little bit, but are still dominating territorially.
  13. USA leads China 5-0 after 1 period. China has just one shot on goal so far and that was on the Powerplay!
  14. This series is very, very important to this team's chances at a postseason run. Getting home ice will make it much easier to get to St. Paul and the Final Five. I know some people on here think the Final Five is meaningless, but not this year. Winning a couple of games in St. Paul could help boost our PWR to the point where we will get a solid NCAA bid. Not getting to St. Paul could result in us having to have help making the NCAA's and possibly not getting enough of that help. Bottom line: Get home ice, get to St. Paul, win a couple of games there and we'll get our chance at the big stage in March and April.
  15. We played solid, consistent hockey for 60 minutes tonight. We killed penalties when we needed to. We converted on the powerplay. We didn't take a lot of stupid penalties. Those are things that have not always been there this season and it was nice to see them tonight. And finishing can make the difference between winning and losing. You will get X number of scoring chances in a game and you had better capitalize on them when you get a chance (hot goalies notwithstanding). We have struggled with that all season until tonight. And it just gets very frustrating when as a fan you get all excited about a big series and then it all goes down the drain because somebody misses an open net or fails to even get a shot on goal on an odd-man rush. Those are valid things to criticize a team for. Tonight was a big step in the right direction, but whether this team can play well on a consistent basis down the stretch is the question that must be answered.
  16. You are right. Fairweather fans are on the bandwagon when the team wins and apathetic when they don't. Real fans are not happy about losses and want the team to start winning again.
  17. Easy now, let's not get personal here. Having said that, I am on your side on this one. Being critical when it's valid to be critical is NOT fairweather. It is far, far worse to be apathetic and not care about the team than to be critical of them.
  18. I have mixed feelings about that series. I don't like Rodentia and never will, but Denver has moved up my list of teams I do not like. But it is always nice to watch Rodentia fall further and further into the abyss.
  19. FINAL SCORE: UND 8, SCSU 1 Two big points on the road.
  20. Let's hope we can carry this over to next weekend. Another big four points at stake at home.
  21. FRATTIN AGAIN!!! 8-1!!! How'd you like that Dunn?
  22. Bench minor on St. Cloud for too many men.
  23. FIGHT!!!
  24. Sounds like Motzko isn't too happy with Hextall going after Marvin. What did they expect was going to happen?
  25. FRATTIN!!! 7-1!!!
