  1. The Twins are showing signs of a revival this season and I think it has a chance to bear real fruit in the next 2-3 seasons. But they are still a below-average club this year. Whether the ownership is willing to pay to keep these young guys once their contracts are up will determine if this franchise is a consistent contender or a consistent wanna-be.
  2. Saw this story in the Grand Forks Heraldo this weekend on Billy Mills and his opposition to the Washington Redskins nickname and logo. http://gazette.com/ramsey-gold-medalist-billy-mills-opposes-racist-redskins-moniker/article/1522406 Whether you agree or disagree with Mills, I hope nobody on this forum has the nerve to label him a "bedwetter" or any number of other adjectives I have seen nickname opponents get slapped with on this forum. I was against changing the Fighting Sioux name and logo, but I sometimes think our fan base was its own worst enemy during that whole fight with the NCAA.
  3. Okay, then let's just build a big wall around America, right after we hunt down and deport all 11 million illegal aliens in America right now. You'll find most of them picking veggies out of the fields of California's Central Valley. And then I'll watch you and everyone else here whine and moan and complain about having to pay the bar tab to do it. And it will be a big bar tab, I can assure you. But if you want it, you better be able to pay for it. A lot of people volunteer their time to teach these people English and help them assimilate into the community. I used to work with one of them, she has since moved on. A lot of charities and churches do similar work with these and other less fortunate people. It isn't all "big gummint". So you should just get off your moral high horse about this topic because you don't know what you are talking about.
  4. I beg your pardon, but I pay all taxes except property taxes (which I think should be replaced with something else). Any questions or do you just need help pulling your foot out of your mouth.
  5. You really think Somali refugees are in any position to overthrow the government? That is pure paranoia. The refugees you so casually throw under the bus are here to get away from the Islamic militias that are trying to take over; they are on our side, not theirs. And having a religious litmus test for refugees is deeply offensive to what America is supposed to be about. We Americans need to stop whining about taxes and appreciate the fact we live in the greatest country on earth. And we need to help those less fortunate who want what we have. Anything less is not the America I was raised to believe in.
  6. And I suppose you were against the Marshall Plan too because it cost money? Helping people in need is what America does. It's what gives us a positive image on the world stage. Of course, some people don't care about that.
  7. Because their homeland is lawless and war-torn and the Somalians want their children to have a chance at a decent life. As to how they get here, I believe there are some non-profit charities that work to get them in the United States and get them on their feet once they settle here.
  8. Let me try to explain this again: I was responding to a comment by Oxbow6. I was not responding to the GFPD or the witnesses. You are reading way too much into this.
  9. I was being inclusive of Latios, Native Americans and Asians so that my comment would be more accurate.
  10. They have to provide an accurate description of the suspects so that they can find them.
  11. No profiling in your post, just stating the obvious. There just aren't very many non-whites that live in Grand Forks permanently.
  12. If you live in Grand Forks, please be cautious until these two suspects are apprehended: http://www.wdaz.com/content/update-victim-identified-murder-investigation Here is a description of the suspects, along with GFPD contact information: Stay safe everyone.
  13. Why do Bison fans talk about "butt hurt" so much? Just a question.....
  14. This is where I am as well. If it happens, great. If it doesn't, the sky isn't going to cave in. The future looks bright and that is what I am focused on.
  15. I will believe this when I see it. When I was going to school (1993-2000), attendance dropped when the temperatures did. I don't know how that will be different the second time around.
  16. Don't forget the Islanders from 1980-83 (4 Cups in 4 years) and the Oilers from 1984-90 (5 Cups in 7 years). Even the Red Wings of the 1990's and 2000's couldn't match that level of sustained excellence.
  17. Not an apples to apples comparison. The Red Wings are not the same team they were back in the 1990's and 2000's. Most of their stars have retired or have gotten older. I think 2008 was their last Cup for a long time. From 2009 onwards they haven't been the same dominant force they were for so long. If you give Mike Babcock the Pens roster, they go to the Cup finals every other year at the very least because he gets the most out of what he has and Bylsma wasn't doing that anymore.
  18. If D-Day had failed, the Germans could have put everything into the Eastern Front against Stalin. That might have been enough to overrun the Soviet Union. With no eastern front, the Nazi's could then focus on starving Britain into submission. Once Europe and Asia are under the control of the Axis Powers, guess who they will come after next?
  19. I know the point you are making and it is well made. But the Kings, Blackhawks and Bruins have been far more steady and consistent in the playoffs over the past five years (where the level of play is much higher) than Pittsburgh has over the past couple of years. In the big leagues of the NHL, if you are a head coach and you underachieve with world-class talent on the roster, you will likely get the pink slip. The year the Pens won the Cup, Bylsma was hired mid-season with the team 9th in the Eastern Conference. They finished 4th in the conference and went on to win their first Cup in a very long time. So Bylsma has now been on both sides of that coin. And I am sure he will get snatched up by another team very soon.
  20. With the talent they have on that team and with how that team has underachieved in recent years, I am not surprised and I think it needed to be done to shake things up. Since they won the Cup in 2009, they haven't been clicking on all cylinders very often. And that includes the times that Sidney Crosby was healthy and in the line-up. This is their window of opportunity to win championships and that window won't be open forever. Once their stars get too old, it will be rebuilding and retooling time.
  21. June 6th, 1944. The most important day in human history. Had Operation Overlord went differently, our lives would be much different and I don't think we would be speaking English right now. Thanks for posting this!
  22. Yeah, there is a lot of mindless legal-speak in the announcements. But that is still more than what we are getting from the Kelley regime. I guess the biggest problem I have with this is the general attitude of "It's none of the public's business why this happened" that has been adopted by the suits in Twamley Hall. A simple "We cannot comment on specifics because of an ongoing investigation" would be better than "no comment" x 1000.
  23. It's tough to measure the square footage of a building from the outside or from faded memories of what was once there. This should help Columbia Mall out big-time.
  24. Whenever a high-level person (Vice-President, Dean, Coach) is fired, forced to resign, resigns to take another job or retires, there usually is some sort of statement from UND about it. The EERC Director is a big-time player on campus; you simply cannot do something like this and not have it cause ripples across campus and across the community at-large. Which is why saying "no comment" over and over again is a bad idea; people start making up their own stories on what happened or didn't happen. If there are legal reasons for it, then we'll just have to wait until there is some sort of legal action. Which I think is coming. My point is that when you are the head of a public institution like UND, you need to play the PR game better than this. Acting like it's nobody else's business is not acceptable.
