Cripes, a delay of game penalty against the Hawks with the Sucks having the goalie pulled. 6 x 4 Penalty Kill coming up. At least the Hawks can take all the free shots at the empty net that they like from now on.
-
Hawks have to stop icing the puck every other shift.

Crap. 4-2 Hawks. Corey "Prick" Perry with the goal. Come on boys, don't choke this away.

The Sucks represent everything that is not good about the NHL. They are a throwback to the pre-2004 lockout NHL and that is not a compliment. Every time they win a playoff series, it's bad for the game. The Hawks are a little over 9 minutes away from sending the Sucks to the golf course where they belong.

Lightning win Game 7 2-0 on the road. Now if the Sucks (I mean Ducks) can lose to the Blackhawks tomorrow night, I can watch the Stanley Cup Finals without any real dog in the fight.

Pretty soon, bus leagues will be a thing of the past. If they aren't already.

Grand Forks Central tried "Maroon and Grey" because nobody wanted to move on. That lasted all of two years. The Redskins Forever zealots promoted the idea of just being "Grand Forks Central" with that boring interlocking G and F as the official logo because "that says it all!". Only it didn't "say it all", it "said NOTHING AT all". So if it wasn't workable for a high school, why would it be workable for a regional, four-year, research-intensive university with both a national and international reach and with a lot more at stake with regard to merchandising and brand identification? The short answer is it wouldn't be workable. And it makes ZERO sense to pick "North Dakota" when this whole process is almost guarranteed to repeat itself in a couple of years. Contrary to what some people here think, there are several names that would serve us well: Roughriders, Aviators, Bombers, North Stars or Stars and probably a few others as well. Pick one of those, come up with a marketable logo and put this issue behind us. We will not ever be able to focus on becoming a top-notch mid-major Division I institution if we don't settle this issue once and for all.
-
I have pointed this out before and was basically told to shut up by the Fighting Sioux At All Costs Crowd.
-
If "North Dakota" makes the final list and wins, the entire process would be for nothing. Just like "Grand Forks Central" didn't "say it all!", neither will "North Dakota". We'll be doing this again in a couple of years and who wants that?

This is certainly some sad news. http://www.grandforksherald.com/news/local/3753744-longtime-grand-forks-broadcaster-enters-hospice I grew up listening to Bollman do the news and weather and Fighting Sioux sports. This world won't be the same without him. Many prayers and best-wishes to Bollman and his family during this very difficult time.

Nothing happened today in Grand Forks

I just had to point out the obvious to him, since he is too thick-headed to figure it out himself.- 72 replies

It wasn't the topic, it was how you posted it. And what you used to post it. This story is not the proper forum to discuss your dislike of Wal-Mart.- 72 replies

Dave Hakstol Leaving to Coach NHL Philadelphia Flyers
fightingsioux4life replied to Ray77's topic in Men's Hockey
You are right, it isn't unique to Grand Forks. But I was pointing out that this environment does not exist in the NHL, especially in a place like Philadelphia. -
Dave Hakstol Leaving to Coach NHL Philadelphia Flyers

And let me make this clear, this applies to every coach at UND, not just Hakstol. The local media has always had a buddy-buddy relationship with the coaches here. And when someone dares say anything negative (see Ralston, Paul), they are penalized for it. And I don't care who employs him either; it's a logical extension of how the Grand Forks media treats UND coaches. -
Last year, they would have the worst record in the league at this point instead of being above .500. I think Molitor deserves some credit for this as well; the roster didn't change all that much from last season.

Dave Hakstol Leaving to Coach NHL Philadelphia Flyers
fightingsioux4life replied to Ray77's topic in Men's Hockey
Okay, let's not turn this into a national titles vs. regular season success argument. You know where that leads. But I do agree with the bolded part; the NHL is a totally different ballgame for Hakstol. You are going from an admiring local media that you are best buds with to a cut-throat, blood-thirsty Philadelphia sports media who makes a living chewing up and spitting people out for fun. This is where Hak's patented mind-numbing coach-speak will serve him well. He won't give them anything to hit him on the head with. -
Most schools have one big revenue sport and use that money to fund the other programs. The question SIOUXFAN97 asks is valid. With the cash machine that is REA, why are we always looking under the cushions of our couch for money? Or at least it seems that way. If we don't fund FCOA for anything other than hockey, it will get only worse. And things are not all that good right now.
-
Sorry, but you just proved my point for me. The bolded statement above is precisely what is wrong with athletics right now. If you don't support the FB program all the time (win or lose, good times and bad), it will never be successful on a year to year basis. And like Sic said, it is possible to be good in more than one sport at the same time. The idea that we have to pick one sport and ignore the rest is a false choice.....and needs to be put to bed once and for all.
-
To be fair, the IPF is for all programs on campus, not just football. But you are right, Faison has done some good things here. It's the "hockey-only" culture that has to change. And that will take some time.
-
This is unacceptable for a school that moved all their programs up to Division I. If we wanted to maintain a "hockey-only" attitude, we should have stayed in Division II and joined the NSIC. But we didnt', so we need to stop focusing on one sport and letting the others twist in the wind. Enough is enough.
-
I think the SBHE and the Legislature have to give UND permission to build stuff like this, but it is being funded via private donations.

If you fill jobs internally, it doesn't take all that long. Internal candidates get first crack at openings before anyone on the outside.

Someone told me this about 15 years ago and it is still true today: B.S. is well, BS. M.S. is more of the same. Ph.D. is Piled High and Deep.

Every head coach got his first head coaching job someplace.
