I will never put a dime of my money into one of those things. I will treat parking meters as No Parking signs. I think it will get referred to the voters anyway.

2017 Minnesota State High School Hockey Tournament
fightingsioux4life replied to SiouxScore's topic in Non-collegiate sports
I am thinking Hermantown will not be great forever, nobody is. I remember Bloomington Jefferson dominating the big school division during the early to mid 1990's. Now you don't hear about them much. Private schools have built-in advantages that will never go away. -

The Prevent Defense prevents you from winning, whether it is football or hockey. -
2017 Minnesota State High School Hockey Tournament

Having played in the previous 7 state title games gives Hermantown an edge over most teams as they have been there before and do not panic if they are down three goals. Now they have advanced to their eighth consecutive Class A title game. -
BRIAN JONES BSC COACH OF THE YEAR!!!
fightingsioux4life replied to hoops44's topic in Men's Basketball
His seat would get a lot cooler. And it would buy him a three to four year extension. As for Brewster, I am not ready to give up on him. But these almost annual playoff losses to lower seeds are troubling and are becoming a trend. Hopefully they'll figure that out in the years to come. -

But the women's team actually got there once (2014). -

I don't have as much of a problem with Hermantown remaining in Class A as I have with "The Blake School" and other private academies being Class A. All private schools should be required to be Class AA because of the inherent advantages they have over any public school. Thank God St. Thomas Academy is AA now, them being in A was a total joke. I also think the same rule should apply in North Dakota Class B basketball, but that is another topic for another thread. -
BRIAN JONES BSC COACH OF THE YEAR!!!
fightingsioux4life replied to hoops44's topic in Men's Basketball
Some people on this forum think Jones is a better recruiter than coach. I suppose that is open to interpretation. And I am a little concerned about the women's team losing to lower seeds year after year in the Big Sky tournament. But overall, I think both programs have the potential to be perennial contenders in the Big Sky (and in a couple of years, the Summit). -
BRIAN JONES BSC COACH OF THE YEAR!!!

What makes you think Smith wouldn't have earned a higher salary here, Mr. Bang For The Buck? If Jones had taken us to the NCAA tournament earlier, he would have earned a higher salary as well. #notrocketscience -

As we should, as that is the ultimate goal for both basketball teams. -
BRIAN JONES BSC COACH OF THE YEAR!!!

Okay, let me rephrase it for you. This is the first year that the men's team has fully maximized their potential under Jones. A lot of other years, they underachieved and lost to teams they shouldn't have. -

And we could have had Craig Smith. But noooooooo, that uber-genius Tom Buning wouldn't give him the time of day because he didn't have Division I experience and whatever else was on that stupid list of his. Thank God Buning wasn't around here too long; he could have messed up the entire Athletic Department big-time. -
BRIAN JONES BSC COACH OF THE YEAR!!!

You are right, this year he has put it all together. I am just concerned that this is an outlier and not the new normal. -

Those are valid points. However, it is fair to point out that WBB had the same issues to deal with and have been more consistent from one year to the next (with one NCAA berth already). -
Why not use AHL players for the Olympics? I think they will take the event more seriously than the highly-paid NHL players who might be tempted to think of the Olympics as a sort of "working vacation".

The season is not a failure and I like where the program is headed. That being said, the fact people are disappointed in anything less than a trip to the NCAA tournament is proof that the expectations are where they should be for this program. The opposite of love is NOT hate, but apathy.

You realize that if Jones keeps winning like this Faison will have to give him a raise or lose him? -
Big Sky Conference QUADRUMVIRATE 2016-7

Today's editorial is proof positive that someone at the Heraldo reads this forum. I imagine it is either Schlossman or Miller. -

Never in a million years did I think the epic rant I posted back in 2013 would be used in an editorial in the Grand Forks Heraldo: http://www.grandforksherald.com/opinion/our-opinion/4230976-editorial-congrats-und-sports-tournament-grand-slam I am flattered, but I am more excited that we have enjoyed so much success this season after a very shaky and frustrating transition period and that we are getting great press like this. FIGHT ON SIOUX (HAWKS)! -

It was very warm and humid in the MSP area today. There are tornado watches up from Minnesota southward. Meanwhile, north-central North Dakota is experiencing a blizzard right now. Gotta love March weather!
