When your fan base holds up signs saying "Bring on Bama" and writes letters to Sports Illustrated demanding NDSU be on the cover instead of Alabama, you are basically asking for those types of comments. The funding model obviously has to change. Even if the REA contract was more favorable to UND, we still would need a Division l caliber funding model to fund scholarships, facilities, coaching salaries, FCOA, NIL and whatever else comes up as college athletics continues to change and evolve.

The point is, it has been done before and it can be done again. You are basically throwing in the towel. I just cannot get excited about perpetual 5-6 seasons.

That is a big problem for sure. And I am a Coaches Club member, you are welcome, btw. We should have had a plan to fully fund a Division l athletic department before we moved up. We are using a Division ll funding model and it simply does not work anymore. Either we do this the right way or we move back down. Or we could drop FB and focus on less expensive sports like MBB and WBB. But I just cannot embrace the status quo.

You just made an argument that Mussman should not have been fired in 2013 because he isn't the one on the field not making plays. I think the special teams struggles were more about playing an FBS team than anything else.

You can say that about almost any of these big time prospects, with Major Junior and NHL teams always sniffing around.

FBS depth advantage caught up with us in the 4th (like it usually does in these games), but this was way better than our games vs. Washington, Utah, Utah State and San Jose State. Now we have to focus on the home opener next week.

Someone was holding a "Just wait until hockey season" sign with UND logos and "8 time national champions" on it on ESPN GameDay this morning. It was on a Home Depot placard. It may have been a Home Depot employee from Grand Forks. They are having some sort of employee appreciation event at their HQ in Atlanta.
