This is the outside-the-box thinking UND needs to embrace to be successful across the board in Division I.

Of course we should recruit locally and regionally first. But we also shouldn't ignore talent because they aren't midwesterners. Whatever the problems are in the program, they are obviously substantial and disturbing.

I don't care for chirping, regardless of the circumstances. Just keep building the program into what it can and should be.

I honestly don't care if our recruits are local or not. That applies to all our programs. I just want players who get it done on the court and in the classroom.

But remember, these are "student-athletes" who are here to learn life lessons, so it doesn't matter if we win or lose (sarcasm).

Maintaining success is harder than obtaining it, you are correct on that point, so we'll have to watch SDSU to see if they can keep it going. But they have the facilities and a growing national reputation for winning. The thing to watch is if their new head coach can keep the train on the tracks and build on what was given to him.

That's what people used to think about Miami (the one in Florida) when they were winning almost every game for a decade. And Colorado was garbage for decades after being good before Coach Prime came along to give them some hope. Nothing is "too big to fail". NDSU isn't exactly collapsing, but they have clearly been surpassed by SDSU (and even lost a player to them). And other programs are always working overtime to get better. The wheel never stops turning. Even Rome eventually fell.

And all that money has done what for the mighty powerhouse that is ULM football? Stop making excuses for the FB program...Francis.

And what does that have to do with this topic? ULM is garbage. What's next, losing recruits to Prairie View A&M?

Louisiana-Monroe is a crap-hole program. I hope they enjoy losing because they are going to be doing a lot of it.

Then the Twins shouldn't be surprised when people lose interest in them. All I think about in the summer is when Vikings training camp starts.

The Twins lobbied hard for public money to build Target Field, telling us they could financially compete with a new stadium. What happened to that?

But they are no longer the team to beat in FCS. South Dakota State is. And that drives their fans crazy. And that never ceases to amuse me. There is a reason Entz is moving to Southern California and it isn't just because of the weather and a big fat raise.

FB losing to Sioux Falls is way worse than this.

Tonight, 26 years later, UND loses to Mayville State in the BESC. And the Old Hyslop is being demolished in summer 2024. Just like the Womens basketball program. Almost perfect symmetry, don't you think? But I suppose it's okay because they are student-athletes learning "life lessons". Whatever makes it easier to sleep at night, I guess.

Except we've already done it before.
