  1. My early prediction for the vote Roughriders - 34% Nodaks - 28% Fighting Hawks - 22% North Stars - 10% Sundogs - 6%
  2. If UND has a new nickname and people chant "Sioux" and wear Siouw apparel, yes you are correct. If UND does not have new nickname, the NCAA can easily say that UND did not do a good enough job retiring the old nickname. They can bring up complaints by other schools saying the same thing as well that not having a new name allows the old name to stay around. If you think that the NCAA doesn't care about "lil old UND, that small school in North Dakota" than you are absolutely delusional. Look at what happened 10 myears ago.
  3. Looks like Tom spent a little to much time sniffing the newspaper ink last night!!
  4. The NCAA has said that that UND is in compliance with the settlement. This is true. Saying that a private organization has the ability to make up new rules (which was granted to them) that pertain to memebr institutions is not fear mongering. It is fact. plain and simple. I am not saying that the NCAA is going to bring the hammer down on UND, but they aren't going to let them get away with anything. The NCAA has stated they are fine with UND for not having a nickname and remaining "North Dakota". But they said there will be issues if problems arise from not having a nickname, like complaints from other schools. Now of course this sounds just ridiculous that opposing fans would have a problem with us not having a new nickname and hearing chants and seeing clothing that has the Sioux logo on it. But what part of this process hasn't been beyond ridiculous!! The committee decided and Kelley confirmed that playing it safe and not going with the no nickname option was going to result in the best possible outcome for the future of UND and its athletic programs. You may want to fight the NCAA for another decade. But, UND absolutely does not.
  5. Very well put. Also, not a bad connection that Teddy arrived in North Dakota the year UND's inception.
  6. Why? Because it has the word "fighting" in it? Probably a loose tie at best. Correct me if I am wrong, but the "Fighting" part of Fighting Sioux wasn't officially part of the name for very long. I feel like it was added in the 90's. I get the want and need to tie the name to the old name, but choosing a generic name like Hawks because it has the word fighting in front of it is a stretch.
  7. http://www.undsports.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=13500&ATCLID=210400096 "Defensively, the Bengals are tops in the Big Sky in pass defense, allowing only 131.4 ypg through the air, but have struggled on the other spectrum, yielding a league-worst 333.8 ypg on the ground. The unit is giving up 44.8 ppg, which is also worst among league teams. In last Saturday’s 58-26 loss at Cal Poly, the Mustangs’ triple option racked up 499 yards rushing." To quote the Sheryl Crow song...."Run baby run baby run baby run baby run"
  8. Probably the best case for what to vote for that I have seen!!
  9. Good to see the student section will be sold out!!
  10. Time for the Alerus to prove what they claim on the outside of the building!!
  11. I think Portland State saw film of our first 4 games I would see that the pass game is definitely not our strength and that we would be focusing hard on the run game. Doubt they had much respect for our pass game either and were more than likely keying in on the run. But funny, we ran for 260 yards. Who ever said that you had to have a prolific passing attach to win games? If you can run the ball with success, eat clock, and score....that is going to win games for you.
  12. I haven't seen anything about it being a "green out". However, I would love to see the green pants at home with the green jerseys!! Man I sure hope all those greens match!!!
  13. I think this is a great idea. Paying homage to our past, but looking forward with a new name and logo for the future. I hope that UND asks him to come up with a logo design, and I hope he wants to do it.
  14. Designs on a goalies helmet, official logo for the University....yeah, that's the same thing!! I all seriousness, if Fighting Hawks is selected, there is no way the NCAA is going to get after UND for using feathers in a logo for a nickname that is a bird...with feathers!!
  15. Yes, It is the fault of the administration not to take all precautions for making sure some idiot didn't do something that has nothing to do with legally obtaining the rights to using a particular name!!
  16. Anything but Sundogs, Nodaks, North Stars, or Fighting Hawks!!!
  17. I can see why they got all new banners in 2001 when the Ralph opened. The logo was brand new and they wanted to show it off. But I always thought it would be pretty sweet to display the logo that the hockey team used at the time they won the championship being displayed. Especially now since there will be a lonely interlocking ND among the others displayed.
  18. Roughriders is the name I will be voting for. But honestly, looking at the other 4....can anyone make a argument why any of them are better? Nodaks - derogatory name used by non-North Dakotans to refer to people from North Dakota Sundogs - logo options are either a dog (unoriginal) or an icy rainbow reflection!! Fighting Hawks - the list of schools changing from a native american nickname to a bird is ridiculous. Lets not be yet another. North Stars - nickname for the state of Minnesota. Lame. So there you have it. While Roughriders isn't perfect, it is BY FAR the best option we have left. Not saying it is the lesser of the evils. Roughriders is a great name and I hope it wins the vote. But I have yet to hear a convincing argument for any of the other 4 that would cause me to change my mind.
  19. Hey that was my idea!! While we are at it, Get a side profile pic of Teddy Roosevelt looking to the left using similar colors!! I am sure that wouldn't cause a stir!
  20. There is a reason that UND and NDSU were strongly in favor of their respective cities building multi purpose arenas that the football team could play in. I don't see either schools building an outdoor stadium in this climate (weather and financial).
  21. The concourse of the Fargodome used to be exactly like the Alerus. Then they decided to put NDSU football pictured up everywhere. The Alerus needs to do this and make the Alerus Center the home of UND football. Not just a tenant that rents the building a few times in the fall.
  22. Totally agree. Use this advantage while we still have it!!
