As above: Removing contact to make spring games safer is wonderful but does not justify de-escalating the hype sourrounding the game. The first line I typed that started this forum fiasco: It should be a game format with a score, even if heavily controlled/scripted just so the players and fans have something to look forward to.

I’ve had him over for dinner on several occasions ... [sarcasm] Put the tape measure away.

Thanks - you’re so kind. I would simply recommend education for you. You twist a story to fit your biases quite nicely, I’ll give you that. Removing contact to make spring games safer is wonderful but does not justify de-escalating the hype sourrounding the game. Period.

Last I checked UND is an FCS school, so are NDSU and SDSU. Your article was focused on FBS Big 10, but even so, it stated “SOME spring games are dying” while others (in this case Nebraska) are growing. Seems to be making the case it’s status quo overall. In fact, the opening line reads “Nebraska’s Red-White Spring Game has never been stronger.” Not exactly justifying what UND is doing for spring football (or rather NOT doing).
-
Your PJ Fleck statement doesnt mean anything. Look at the above link I posted to see what they are ACTUALLY scheduling. And yes, the above schools are scaling back, and yet their events are far larger and more hyped than UND’s. You failed to mention the FCS competition, including NDSU and SDSU - they are doing more than UND. You can defend Bubba all you want, but it’s clear UND is taking the easy way out for spring ball and it is does NOT compare to what the national standard is, despite the limited examples you included.
-
That’s a false narrative said so UND fans remain content. Research what NDSU, SDSU, Minnesota, etc. are doing this year; not exactly the same as UND. https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.argusleader.com/amp/3444160002 https://gobison.com/schedule.aspx?path=football https://gophersports.com/news/2019/3/7/football-spring-game-details-announced.aspx

Think what you want. Your lens are so Kelly Green that you’ve blatantly forgotten all other colors (i.e., you’re heavily biased). UND has much to improve on.
-
You’re wrong. It is hyped up AROUND THE COUNTRY far more than UND does. If you compare Spring Games to actual games in the fall, then of course the events are boring, but that completely misses the point I just made and is pure deflection on your part. With spring ball, it is all relative. If you go to Minneapolis, Madison, Lincoln or even Brookings or Fargo and compare it to what UND does, then you would see how far behind the times UND is.

No. Just my opinion on Chaves’ perception. Hope he proves me wrong.
-
He says the right things, but read between the lines. He’s ecstatic to have a change-up from EWU and to be able to focus on mostly hockey.
-
It should be a game format with a score, even if heavily controlled/scripted just so the players and fans have something to look forward to. Can’t have authentic scrimmage in HPC as it isn’t a full 120 yard field - need Alerus Center for that. And could have tailgating, video board introductions and team entrance, concessions going in concourse, halftime band entertainment, etc. Create a game-like atmoshphere to build hype for the upcoming season. *It is done around the entire country.* UND football and Bubba are still in the Stone Age.
-
Thus far, this AD (Chaves) is more “Hockey over everything else” than Faison was ... I hope he proves me wrong.
-
This is beyond wishful thinking; way to be optimistic, though.
-
Bubba is a fool for not having a “Spring Game” at the Home of UND Football. Please see my previous posts for more details.

Brock Boltmann is a better athlete than QB. Love that Freund’s offense has a place for these talented players. Allows the talented playmakers to get on the field - whether at QB, WR, slot, RB, TE, etc. Simplicity of the offense allows for players to play and know multiple spots. Much improved from the previous coordinator’s antique offense...

Can never beat this. They need to wear it more, honestly.

Those are Nike uniforms that were available to UND from 2012 to 2014. The above photo is from 2012, when Greg Hardin had a huge game against the Griz. Currently, UND is sponsored by Adidas, so black jerseys would now need to be Adidas. Therefore, what you see above is obsolete. I like the look, though, and the former players from that time did also. Would be nice to have black Adidas uniforms as alternates to the Kelly Green mainstays.
-
That would be a nice touch. I just think the gray jersey is pointless. The gray pants and eventually the gray helmet are fine due to historical significance. I still think UND should have gone with an alternate black jersey, black pants look.
-
Do some research. Until then I won't waste my time. UND had a winning season in 2018, which is good. They need to make the playoffs, though.
-
UND can do no wrong. All hail Bubba. c’mon folks, see the light.
-
The funny thing is, all the little things add up to form or not form the results we all want. The details are key, including things that initially seem trivial like poorly organized spring games, nose guard depth and uniforms.
-
And there it is. Sad state of affairs for UND football. Blah
-
I respectfully disagree. Should be at the home of UND football: the Alerus Center.

Grey instead of black for the University of North Dakota was just dumb. Another Bubba mistake.
