Century and Minot with a good old fashioned "who has the ball last" 7-6 game, CHS wins it. Last 2 games on PSP Network have been 6-5 and 7-6. -

When Legacy split, there was a group of parents who pursued the school board and ADs to give kids who go to Legacy an opportunity to play the sport. There was enough kids, and kids were tired of playing for other schools. In fact, the way the lines were, some Legacy kids would be in Math class together and one would be a Demon and one would be a Patriot. At the end of the day, it took away a legit chance for CHS to be legit state title contenders last season and probably this year as well. But more kids are playing... Now on the flip side there were Demon and Patriots fighting the split of Legacy - and it got quite ugly between the 3 groups. Not sure if that's happening in Minot or not...fighting against it or for it....I've been told by a few people up north that their are kids/families that just love the Junior Gold for whatever reason and want nothing to do with HS hockey. -

Program A doesn't cut, rarely has a player quit because they wanna be apart of a program, has a historic successful run... Program B has kids cut, players choose to play JR gold instead (kids cut themselves), is always a solid WDA competitor and to their credit has 2 State Titles but it's rare... Difference between the Bismarck Blizzard and the Minot Magicians is: * One had an Olympian and the rest of the state didn't adapt (hard to adapt to a top 3 all time player)...the state did adapt once she was gone oddly enough but the damage had been done. *Minot is still chasing the East like the rest of the WDA so nobody complains about them. In talking to ADs in the past, they're more concerned with participation - keeping kids in sports - than winning. And at the end of the day, I suppose there's really nothing wrong with that. We all want to grow the game, right? And ultimately a large majority of these kids we wanna see playing men's league someday and coaching and getting their kids involved in the game like the other 99% of us...So yes, it'll water down the west even more, but that happened on the girls side as well and the rest of the state was emphatic about it and now, in Bismarck, it is more difficult to make a 10UA or 12UA team than it is a HS team where it is a participation sport. REGARDLESS of that...Word on the street is that the meeting last night was a "not ready next year yet" vibe. -

Some sort of "informational meeting" for Minot North hockey going down tonight. Be interesting to see what that's all about.....hearing 2 years out still but maybe that's changing. -

Entertaining game with Legacy and Davies yesterday. 6-5 OT win for Legacy. Both teams came back from 2 goal deficits at some point in the game. Fun hockey game to watch. Beasley for LHS with his second hat trick of the week. I think that was the 3rd time in a row those 2 have gone to OT, including double OT at state last year...first time the Sabers picked up the win. Pretty solid start for Kilgore in GF on the girls side, picked up a 3-0 shutout over Minot yesterday too. West Fargo took down Mandan 2-0 yesterday, might have to bump WF up a notch, that's a good win. They'd be an absolute wagon if 4 girls didn't leave town. -

I think sometimes the "Legacy screwed BHS" stuff comes from.....for a long time the old coaching staff was trying to convince administration to CO-OP Legacy kids with BHS kids because the numbers were skewed in CHS favor. So essentially those guys wanted the same CO-OP that eventually came with the Legacy-Bismarck girls program when that started. And at that time...they weren't wrong. That is until there were 40 hockey players sitting in the hallways of Legacy and had enough to start a team. I'd love to rip on BHS but I won't do that. Hats off to the kids and families who stuck it out. There's been so much crying, whining, quitting and transferring from adults the last 3 years it really did screw the program. Much respect to those who are playing just to play the game we love, even though it won't be much fun this season. Bismarck is growing north, and a lot of hockey families are living north for whatever reason. I think if people say playing time opportunities in the future as being important, perhaps some people will head south. There's 700ish kids in the Bismarck Youth program one would think that would be sufficient for 3 HS teams. -

Some good early season match ups this week: In the west, interested in the Mandan at Minot game Tuesday. East has some dandies: RR at North, Sheyenne at Davies, WF at GFC. Non counter to keep an eye on this week would be Davies traveling west to take on CHS and LHS. Girls side I think best games are Davies at CHS, Mandan at WF United and Minot at GF. Not trying to disrespect any teams, this are just the one's that caught my attention. Feel free to summarize if you catch a game this week. -

North took legacy to the woodshed 6-0 and it should’ve been worse. -

Guess I gotta add WF to the radar, 3-2 over FN. Legacy gets North and WF this weekend, Century will get WF Friday. A couple good crossover games there. Girls: 2 OT (Davies over GF + Jimmy over LB) games and 2 other 1 G (Minot over CHS + Dicky over Willy games last night. That's the way it'll be this year. -
All I'm gonna say is they've played their best football the last couple weeks with their backs against the wall. Haven't watched sh*t on Montana State but on the right day, they are one of the best in the country, so who knows....No expectations this post season (for me anyway), gonna have to be week to week and see what goes down.
-
Easy one for me....HS hockey started. Guessing the dome will be extremely empty. Not sure what would happen in Bozeman, IMO will depend on the weather forecast. NDSU isn't the same in the trenches this season and can't rack up 400 yards on the ground, although I do like how they've played the last few weeks. Regardless, I think it's gonna be a good playoff....

Izzo is running a poll today. Over 500 votes so far and 57% say NDSU didn't deserve a seed (insert should shrug emoji).

Girls side, all in state match ups Tuesday. After North and Mandan, every game is worth a follow, it's going to be a complete crap shoot. DSH-Willy: 2 scrappy teams last year, each only lost 1-2 Seniors. Should be a battle. CHS-Minot: Minot lost great SRs after finishing 3rd last year. They do have Ackerman who may be best goalie. CHS light up front, good on the back end. DL-WF: Lotta WF girls bolted town, they have a great tendy who just signed at Concordia. DL may have best player in the state in Abrahamson, who's always dangerous. GF-Davis: Lot of unknowns in this one. 2 new coaching staffs. Should be interesting. Jamestown-LB: LB lost both goalies to AAA teams, 3 good D to graduation and top F to ACL injury. Not sure much on Jamestown but they do have Sorlie in net, who is a very good goalie. Interesting night ahead. Tues. 21st: Dickinson at Williston 7:30 PM Bismarck Century at Minot 7:00 PM Grand Forks at Fargo Davies 7:30 PM Devils Lake at West Fargo United 7:00 PM Jamestown at Legacy/Bismarck 7:00 PM Fri. 24th: SE U18AA Goldwings at Minot 7:30 PM West Fargo United at Crookston 5:00 PM at Thief River Falls Sat. 25th: West Fargo United at Thief River Falls 12:00 PM at Thief River Falls Legacy/Bismarck at East Grand Forks 4:30 PM -

After watching jamboree in Mandan yesterday the west will be a toss up with the sabers, Minot and century. Mandan has a goalie to keep them right there with those teams. CHS will be really good up front. Minot will be solid, they brought in some good youth. Legacy, depends on which team shows up. -

North over Mandan 2-0 in girls with an empty netter. Sounds like it was a great game. As I stated I think Those will be the 2 best teams. -

Devils Lake over Jamestown 5-2 to open the boys season. Big tilt on the Girls side today. Mandan travels to Fargo North. IMO, the 2 favorites going into the season. -

Girls west jamboree this weekend in Mandan. If I had to pick 2 finalists going into this year it would be Mandan and North. -

Fargo Davies girls coach resigned this week. Tough blow for them, especially this time of year. Pretty damn impressive resume: Issertell served as head coach for the past nine years, including two as the South/Davies co-op head coach. He led the Eagles to a state championship in 2021 and three second-place finishes in 2020, 2022 and 2023. Issertell was named Eastern Dakota Conference Coach of the Year in 2016 and the North Dakota High School Coaches Association Coach of the Year in 2020. -
What a beat down. Congrats to your program and fans. Good luck the rest of the way.
