    Name that Line

I like the Vegas line, because these guys are the jackpot baby! (say this in a dicky vitale voice)
  2. I think the majority of fans on this site are "hardcore" and I do believe that most fans prefer being indoors. As for funding a new stadium; if we wanted to play outdoors (which would be nice once or twice a year) we could still play at memorial. The teams still uses it and it is a lot nicer than many of the stadiums in this country.
  3. The week of the games down there you can go through UND as well. Though it might be tough. I got tickets through UND a few years ago. Maripukey doesn't really like to put Sioux fans together like how REA keeps a visiting teams fans. Doesn't a school have to give the other school an allotment of 5% of their tickets?

The nothing at noon guy is horrible. I don't turn on the radio to listen to "nothing."

I don't mind listening to the rubes. They do get over the top, but I like how it's about mn sports. I wish they covered a bit more of the region however. Last winter they tried (not sure if they kept it up) calling all the affiliates to here about local news. I do turn them off when they talk about the Gophers. They just get a bit ridiculus in the continuous Sioux bashing. I think they were po'd because gf didn't have them on for all 3 hours. Whatever happened to the Wild's TV announcer?
  6. http://www.startribune.com/stories/509/4193903.html This was in the tribune today. It doesn't say a whole lot about stadiums, but looks like gov. Pawlenty would like to get the ball rolling on Twins and Vikes. Nothing on Gophers. They may be stuck going the private route.
  7. I voted outdoor. Yes it can get very cold, but I do love the element of weather. There is nothing like football on a crisp autumn day when you can smell the snow coming. Or is that Simplot? Plus tailgating just seems so much more natural when it's an outdoor game.
  8. This was becoming such a great thread that I thought I'd start a poll. Yeah! My first poll. Yeah!
  9. http://www.vikings.com/ Click on image in upper left corner. Vikes new stadium plans look awesome. I didn't read everything, but it looks like it might be retractable. I couldn't verify this though. Obviously they are trying to get back to outdoor FB.
  10. Basketball is more of a cozy sport. It's much better when the fans are on top of the game. Playing in the big arena will be like a wasteland (unless it's filled). I remember playing at Concordia and the gym was so big you had no idea fans were there. The more space the harder it is to just distances as far as shooting. This is becasue you can see through the backboard. I think 3,000 fans in a 4k arena will be rockin, where 3k fans in a 12k arena will be sad.
  11. Hey great pics! Thank you. It's too bad I found this website only about a month ago, otherwise I could have told you along time ago that it was being built. Before I left in the middle of June for California, my last job as a surveyor assistant was to mark where the borings were supposed to go. (This was more for people to see how it would fit, the plans still needed approval from the Higher Ed Board). I think its nice to see bball get a facelift. I also hope they don't play in the hockey rink to much. It is hard on the ice. Thought of the Day: UND is more prepared (with facilities) for DI than the Bison.
  12. Why are goopher fans so in love with tallekson? I'm sure the sioux could have dressed beasley last year and used his 10 foot reach to score goals. When you see Tallakson in person he is the UGLIEST skater. TV doesn't make him look that horrible. They really need to equip him with those ice walkers that little kids use.
  13. I was thinking of the outdoors as far as slicker. I was remembering the Vikings and Bears sliding all over when they played in Champaign last year. Though I don't think it had rained recently. My point isn't about slickness, it's about injuries. Far more season ending injuries happen on turf. The field stuff is only a few years old, so we'll see how it works out. A lot of teams are moving to it. I guess most would agree it's a nicer fix, because grass does take time and care. I still think something better could be found.
  14. This is the attendance rankings from Sioux Illustrated: 1 in mens hockey 3 in womens hockey, mens bball, womens bball 5 in football 10 in volleyball Kudos to UND sports fans and I'm sure NDSU is similar. BUT being ranked this high in attendance (when actually very few fans are showing up) is kind of scary for some of these sports.
  15. I got the opportunity last year to go to Omaha. What a beautiful stadium. They have a rebuilt all brick campus. There are huge long needle pine trees all over campus. The stadium itself is a horseshoe and the open end looks into the pines. We played them on a perfect Saturday afternoon last year and ...more Sioux fans were there than UNO fans. I asked a few people and they said that everyone in Nebraska is a cornhushker fan and that is why they lack the support. It seems like you could support two teams when they are in different classifications. I don't know if they always draw so few fans, but what a shame. They've had very good teams for some time now. Maybe UND and NDSU fans and teams are just spoiled with the support. Though I do agree that we should be able to fill stadiums and cheer loudly.
  16. My girlfriend saw Schnieder on campus today and he was still on crutches. I would say he's very doubtful for this weekend. These could end up being some ugly defensive games.
  17. YandA: I loved the 1-800 ones. Something about a missing boy when he's in the penalty box would be funny. Also, the caddyshack and slapshot references are great. UND33: I liked the clowns idea, but I think it needs some treaking. Maybe something with another team name. I just got home and have been laughing for 20 minutes straight. I even laughed at WPoS. Is that wrong of me?
  18. Whoa! Lets not jump the gun on turf being better. Way too many injuries happen because of turf. Not only is it hard when you fall on it (yes when it's winter grass is hard as well), but it rips your skin off. Plus, every season you see someone go down with a ligament or tendon tear because their foot was basically caught in the turf. It was mentioned earlier in this thread that the old turf at memorial would freeze up. Turf is improving, but the new stuff is slicker than grass. With good drainage, a grass field has to be the safer way to go. For the most part it just depends what type of offense do you have as to turf or grass being better.
  19. I'm not sure "newness" has a lot to do with it. There are many sioux fans who would rather be outside. My friends and I didn't go to see the arena. Personally I don't think it's that special. Sure we probably get more fans, but its like with the REA; the new fans don't necessarily know they are supposed to cheer.
  20. Lets just hope these guys go out and play and not worry about getting 100 goals. Though this is a fun stat to track.
  21. The gopher killers for the sioux have always been the the hard working, but not necessarily goal scoring players. Remember Peter Armbrust?
  22. If the gophers want to beat the sioux, they should only put four players on the ice. Seriously, though, I think Marty's statement about scoring alot of goals this weekend has some merit. Yes we got everyone involved, but people were getting involved last year as well and all of a sudden we thought hitting the post counted as a goal. This series could get scary for the sioux if we struggle to score right away. Hopefully these guys haven't let the goals go to their heads, because if they hit a dry spell they might get very frustrated. And we all know frustration leads to bad play which leads to anger to hate and to the dark side.
  23. I don't know if I'd say the al is the toughest place to play, BUT when the fans cheer it leads to alot of false starts for the other team. I don't think there is that much of a difference in the fans. However there is a big difference in the the stadiums. The obvious big difference in stadiums is the size. The al is smaller than the fargodome and has a lower ceiling. Plus the walls are sheet metal. This just helps to reverberate the sound. The fargodome on the other hand is like a black hole for sound. I'm not sure if the fargodome has been selling out, but it takes alot of screaming fans to make that place loud.
  24. I heard from a couple of people at the game that the reffing might not have been in top form. They had implied that the spots were pretty favorable to UNO. Any truth to this?
  25. I just talked to my cousin who is on the team. He said that after the fumble for the Sioux towards the end of the game, the sideline said **ck it, we'll win anyways. I guess they did. This must be a very confident bunch.
