Digger is definately one of the best in D2. He must not have done that great @ Coon Rapids because, that being a major program in the Twin Cities, if he made noise then surely the Gophers would have at least asked him to walk-on.
-
That's your opinion, not mine. So what they didn't win the conference? USC didn't even play in a conference championship game and their conference is weak. The only top 25 team they played was Wash State.
-
Very well. Cut the nickel in half and mail us our half and we'll call it quits. P.S. - if you actually think this will happen then i have land to sell you
-
The computers can't lie unless the humans make them do it. If the humans made them do it it would be because they tweaked the formula to reflect one team favorably. But noone knows the criteria so we can't check it publically. Obviously we would have to make the criteria public so this couldn't happen.
-
Ok Ok, so maybe that wasn't realistic. Nonetheless, you won't be doing anything with ourhalf of the nickel that we don't agree to unless you pay for it.
-
Thanks for the info. However, you need to define what it is that you're winning. When you win the Nickel Trophy, you earn the right to display it at your school merely as a symbol of your victory of the game. You haven't won legal ownership of the nickel, however. We legally own half and have a right to that half. Furthermore, if you want to buy our half from us, i'm sure we'd gladly sell it to you...for the right price. How does $100,000,000 sound? Just enough to build a Ralph Englestad-esque Arena for our Basketball and Vollyball programs.

Can't disagree with you more on the feeling that late season, championship games should mean more than early games. Why? So what if they're championship games? Each school had one loss, Oklahoma to KSU, LSU to Florida, and USC to Cal. Just on that alone you can see why OU and LSU are in it. Strength of schedule follows suit.
-
I'm not talking about winning it. I'm talking about buying it.
-
You're still talking about using the nickel? It's obviously not an option no matter how much you hate NDSU. It's half ours. Perhaps if you pay for it we'll let you have it.
-
Ok, i think i'm with you guys on a play-off. However, who gets in? Auto-bids? Simply the top 16 get in? How do you rank the teams? IMO it needs to be a computer and only a computer. Humans are biased.
-
Well at the least i know they own half of it. Nonetheless, i just wanted to point out that this scenario isn't feasible unless you bought off the other half of the Nickel. I don't think we'd want to see it go so the price might be a little high.
-
As far as i know, NDSU literally owns the Nickle Trophy. So when the day comes that the game is for sure gone, the owners will ask for it back and i'm sure will probably put it in a museum (or somthing).

This is a prime example of why humans need to be taken out of the seeding system (whether or not we're talking about the Bowls or a play-off). Your naive imperceptiblity is incomprehensible to me. What gives you the power to say that USC and LSU should be 1/2 over Oklahoma? How can you justify this? If it is simply because they lost to Kstate by 28, then you are indeed naive. So what that they lost by 28? LSU lost to Florida and USC lost to UC-Berkeley. There is no possible way for you to justify what you say unless you can prove that LSU and USC are better than OU. The only way you can do this is by creating a point system based on mesurable quntities (e.g. number of wins, number of losses, number of opponant's wins/loses, number of opponent's opponent's wins/loses, etc.) and then tally the score. This has already (more or less) been done, and dispite biased human polls try to throw out OU, they've still managed to win the computers. In other words, if it had been only computers (IMO the fairest way) then OU would have had an even better score. Thus there is no possible way you can justify not have OU in the title game (or ranked 2nd if we're talking about a play-off).

Going undefeated (including a 77-7 win) counts for nothing if you lose badly at the end?

Bowls are run like a business, if they don't make money, they don't exist. Thus, they must make money for someone to keep having them. Bowls are great advertising and thus corporations are sponsering them. This means alot of money made for whoever is hosting the bowl. If the non-major bowls don't make much money, then how come the Alamo bowl is giving $1.45 million dollars to the teams playing. Likewise, the Sun bowl is giving away $1.425. This is simply your opinion. The reason my opinion is the opposite is because with a computer you get a fair result. A computer can only look at the numbers. Numbers can never lie. However, when you add humans into the equation they start saying things like well, if, but, would have, etc. Even the best ranking humans are naturally biased and look at intagebles by nature. This is why humans have never been good at picking teams to win (which in turn has spawned gambling) and why polls are worthless. My main point here is to take humans out of the equation when ranking teams. This can be either seeding teams for a play-off, or seeding teams for bowls. But, while we're at it, i'm pro-bowls.

D2 schools that are allowed to play D1 hockey (these are just the ones i know for sure are D2, could be more): WCHA: UND UMD SCSU MSU Mankato Alaska - Anchorage CCHA: Alaska - Fairbanks UNO CHA: Wayne State Findley Bemidji State I know Crookston is in there somewhere as well. That makes 11 teams. Plenty of teams for a full season of action (never mind you could still schedule D3 and/or D1 teams to fill a schedule ***or continue rivalry with schools that aren't in the D2 classification***) and a nice 8 team play-off field. And i don't know why you guys keep bringing this up: D1AA and D1A are both D1. Ask the NCAA if you don't believe me. I know you could turn around and say ask the NCAA if it's ok to play D1 hockey when you're a D2 school. I'm simple proposing a uniform classification for all schools. If you want to counter-propose that NDSU should have to play D1A for football, be my guest.

You guys have it all wrong. The BSC is flawed, yes. The reason it's flawed: it takes into account 2 human polls! If it was simply a straight computer algorithem that took into account only wins/losses, strength of schedule, etc. (in other words, obvious stats from the games played) and discounted humans which are obviously biased, the BCS would be perfect. Other than that, a playoff would be aweful for college football. The bowls make SO much money it's unreal. No one is going to give up all that dough for a play-off. With that being said, USC lost to Cal and beat some not-so great teams (Notre Dame). That is why they're out of it despite the biased human polls ranking them #1. Screw the polls.

I always wondered if those were actually seats behind the endzone pads. Why don't they put those down for football? Not enough room?
-
airmail - you're right, i have no idea what i'm talking about. Although NDSU is upgrading their entire university, obviously there is another reason that NDSU is upgrading athletics to D1. Please enlighten me. DaveK - you're trying to introduce some sort of psuedo-double standard to try and make my argument illogical. I'll try and explain my argument as simple as possible so you won't have to resort to this in the future. In the NCAA, D2 has only 1(one) classification for football: D2. D1, however, has 2(two) classifcations for football: D1A and D1AA. Thus, if you play D1A *or* D1AA football, you're a D1 school. This is a true statement, ask the NCAA if you don't believe me. OK, with that in mind, UND plays every sport at the D2 level except hockey. NDSU (starting the 2004-2005 academic year) will play every sport at the D1 level. My argument is this: why should UND get to play one sport at D1 level when the rest are at the D2 level? So my proposal is that the NCAA revamp the hockey classifications to allow D2 schools with D1 hockey to play hockey at the D2 level with a national championship. That's all i'm saying.
-
Perhaps he'll go to Indiana. They're in need of new leadership.
-
NDSU is now independent in D1AA. So what? The topic was asking what the best D2 conference was. Before today's game i was quite sure the GSC was the best. But i now know how over-rated southern football is. If i could cahnge my vote it would be for the NCC.
-
Actually, we could do this. One of the endzone seats can disconnect and be moved towardthe other endzone to create a nice hockey/bball/vball arena.
