Boarding penalty on James.
-
I see Emery out on the ice.
-
Dumb penalty by us.
-
Turnover in our own zone that led to the goal? If so, the glass is your friend. Not sexy but effective.
-
Laba got hurt in the first period but came back but not so sure how much ice time he had the rest of the way. Looked like some sort of ankle injury.
-
AF had no business there in the 3x3 overtime and they knew it. They played extremely cautious and ultimately got scored on.
-
CC and AF going to overtime. AF really came back with a much better effort in the third despite giving up the tying goal early.
-
So BSU will be no gimmie later here when UND plays them?
-
CC absolutely suffocating Air Force the entire second period but a defensive lapse had the Tigers down two before getting one back on the power play. AF goalie standing tall and bailing out his very tired teammates in front of him.

There’s an interesting video on YouTube, an interview with Coach Schafer with Pierre McGuire that aired about 22 hours ago. I’d recommend listening to it. Much respect for Coach Schafer. Had the pleasure of listening to him speak at Sioux boosters roughly a decade or more ago. My takeaway from his speech was how much he respected programs like North Dakota because they’re willing to travel to his barn, not just expecting his team to travel to ours. He didn’t name names but there were some big school programs that popped in my head as to who he might be referring to. He said he would gladly travel to places like UND because he knows we’re always willing and able to return the favor.

Schloss and Feldman give a good scouting report on their weekly UND hockey podcast. Cornell returns nearly their entire lineup this year and 88% goals scored. Only lost two players. One of those was a third string goalie. The one major departure was Gabriel Seger who put up 44 points last year.
-
I agree. I’ll take a 3-2 start against some of the best college hockey has to offer over say, CC’s 4-0 start. So far, home against NMU and two on the road at Anchorage. No disrespect to those programs and credit CC-you play who’s on your schedule but given their non-conference opponents this year, they better hope to win most if not all their games against some very low ranked teams or it could hurt them down the stretch if they find themselves on the bubble. UND’s schedule is as we know just absolutely brutal but hopefully it is preparing them well and setting them up for success as they enter difficult league play.

Kristo’s penalty shot goal at Magness was a fond memory as well.
-
CC learned that the hard way last season. Despite several quality wins against teams ranked #1 at one point or another, against Minnesota, DU, and UND, losing-at home-to Augustana hurt and likely is what cost them a tournament spot.
-
So despite a 3-2 record, I would imagine a high Pairwise still given the strength of our opponents? A loss tonight shouldn’t penalize us too much, right? No offense to CC but they are poised to start out 4-0 but against UAA and NMU. Can’t think that that merits more reward than our first three opponents.

Does anyone have video of Dixon Ward doing his one more shift? I’d love to see it.
-
Was either Schmaltz or Kuntz who commented in the post game interviews that they’re a high skill team who tried baiting UND after whistles in order to play 4x4 hockey, open up the ice a bit for them and their style of play.

Was it the 2018/2019 season we had so much trouble scoring goals? Out play teams, have the puck in the opposition’s zone for inordinate amounts of the game, yet struggled mightily to score.
-
Yep, you’re absolutely right. UND would’ve challenged regardless, they just needed a stoppage of play to challenge the missed infraction, even if Mankato hadn’t have scored.
-
Gotcha. So the infraction must’ve happened uncalled, Mankato somehow gains possession of the puck and scores and then Berry challenges the missed call. Right on. Thanks!
-
I didn’t watch the game. Can someone explain the sequence of events that led to both the major penalty AND the goal being disallowed? I can’t quite wrap my head around how one thing led to another or were somehow related.
-
If the tables were turned, would we UND fans feel the same way as this guy? I don’t know, after reviewing the hit, it seemed like a legit penalty call to me, and it was made by CCHA officials so I give them credit for calling it.
-
The audio and video are all messed up on the highlights.

UND insider has the game highlights posted out on YouTube

And if anyone wants to stream my NORAD league game on Sunday, we will pay YOU to watch!
