They now hand out hardware for regional championships???

Odd they’d be carrying a trophy at the west regional. What trophy are they referring to?

My dad tells a funny story of how back in the 1970’s Michigan State was in town for a WCHA hockey series. Well, apparently, after the game, a bunch of Spartans players got drunk and thought it would be a great idea to kick out the windows of the JC Penny store that was then downtown. The players got hauled off to jail and my dad represented the JC Penny company. With the players in jailhouse jumpsuits at court on Monday, the JC Penny management decided that they did not wish to see the players’ careers hurt over their bone headed mistake so they offered that if the players paid for the damages, no charges would be filed. My dad said the coach, Amo Bessone, was all smiles in the court room and gladly agreed to my dad’s client’s proposal. I can only imagine the kind of punishment Coach dolled out at practice when they returned to East Lansing Lol. Anyway, back to our regularly scheduled programming. I thought this would be a fun story to share to lighten the mood around here given all the bad news we’ve been enduring today.

Agreed. I wonder if some complacency kicked in with Berry over the last few years between having long tenure and a fat paycheck. Scotty Owens’ last few years at CC, he wouldn’t even get on the ice for practice. He’d sit up in the stands with a newspaper while he let his assistants run practice. Also, he flew first class on road trips while players and assistants flew coach. Not good optics.

God, he had a terrible turnover in the opening minute of Friday night game up in Kalamazoo. The Broncos didn’t score but it kinda set the tone for the rest of the game. It was a pass you’d expect to see in beer league.

Man, talk about an arms race college hockey and college athletics overall has become. My god. This NIL stuff is just mind boggling.

And where did I hear on a recent podcast-either the Alive in Five Guys or Schlossman-said that UND always had every coach on the bench for games whereas you’d look over at the opponent’s bench and it would typically be the head coach and one other assistant because the others were out on the road, recruiting. Whoever said this specifically mentioned Western Michigan as an example of a team that typically only has 2 guys on the bench.

If it’s true that Perron (and perhaps others) had deals worked out with other schools dating back several weeks and the coaches knew it, does it make sense to have played them? Just asking for thoughts on that. Seems if you know that you’re gone after the season ends, might compromise your work ethic and such having one skate out the door already, so to speak.

Schloss said on one of his UND hockey podcasts a few weeks back that he’d heard Noreen was going to blow up the roster and very few guys would be invited back for next year.

There’s a good Matt Wellens article in the Duluth Tribune where he recaps the season and what is to look forward to next year. Lots of quotes from Sandelin. You can sense the displeasure in Sandy’s quotes regarding today’s NIL and transfer portal world we now live in.

I hope we continue to see similar announcements from other UND players very soon like Jake’s.

Nursing that one goal lead late in the game, Alex Bump hoofing to beat out an icing and in turn, UMass ices the puck leading to an offensive zone faceoff for the Broncos and darn near scoring. Now that’s what I call effort and leadership.

You all think that’s a 5 minute major? My opinion is yes-UMass guy saw numbers and drilled him from behind into the boards.

Anyone which officiating crew is doing today’s game? Some Gophers fans said that the crew that did their game was sent home by the NCAA but they didn’t cite any sources to that.

So I just got home and turned on the game. Is it a case of Western thinking it would be a cake walk or just off to a slow start?

That sounds like something he would say! Go to YouTube and watch his post game comments about being Tee’d up by the refs up in Denver and how there are a couple things in life he’s never encountered-the Easter bunny, Santa, and an official who’s admitted he was wrong. Classic!

Serratore even told the story at Sioux boosters prior to the ice breaker tournament in 2011! He had the entire audience in absolute stitches in only the way Frank Serratore can! Hak had the task of following him up and even said as much when he took the podium! Frank said he had Blais’ national championship ring mark embedded in his forehead! Classic story.

Who knows? Maybe Mannino’s on a plane headed to Long Island University to take over the Sharks program.

ESPN the Ocho reporting John Tortorella being spotted having lunch yesterday at the Red Pepper!

In my humble opinion, I’d think he’d be a long shot but it is interesting given the timing.

The Gazette article only offered up a brief quote from the CC athletic department confirming that he is no longer with CC and wish him well. No mention of why he resigned or where he’s going. Kris Mayotte was unavailable for comment.
