  1. I still remember paying like $9.95 to order the UND/Wisconsin championship game at the Badger Hockey showdown circa 1999 or 2000 and how long it took my America Online dial up to get the audio streaming, lol. But I’m pretty certain it was worth it because I think we beat the Badgers in overtime if I’m not mistaken.
  2. Listening to the post game, they’re talking about being interested in seeing how Sac State QB Bennett does at South Dakota. Do they play indoors there? I understand USD has a really good defense?
  3. The temperature of the water is pretty darn hot on the football thread (and for good reason). Let’s try to get a win tonight to try to at least calm some nerves.
  4. Listening to the post game and there’s definitely a glass half full sentiment.
  5. In my rudimentary football knowledge, Sac State looks too fast for the UND defense.
  6. Yah, I mis-spoke. I meant to say Coors Banquet Beer.
  7. Yah, I mis-spoke. I meant to say Coors banquet beer is what he says he’d pick up and bring back to North Dakota back in the 50’s or 60’s.
  8. I remember drinking way too much Natty Lite in college. Or should I say, I don’t remember drinking way too much Natty Lite in college.
  9. My dad tells me of stories from back in like the 60’s of him driving through Colorado on his way back to GF and buddies practically begging him to load up the car with cases of Coors Light!
  10. I miss Grain Belt. They don’t sell it out here. Need to pick some up at The Rite Spot whenever I drive up to Grand Forks.
  11. Truth! My wife is the beer snob while I drink swill.
  12. Spot on! Circa 2005, I went to a CC/Bemidji State game at World Arena and after 19 minutes and 50 seconds of a boring, scoreless fist period, CC got a break away and scored a last second goal. Me and a girl I’d been dating who was born and raised in Bemidji were practically asleep from boredom until that late goal. I was so surprised, I shot up out of my seat, with a full draft beer in my hand, and throw my arms up in celebration. Sadly, my full beer went flying in the air and landed all over two BSU fans sitting in front of me. it was like the Matrix, it all happened so fast and yet in slow motion as I tried in vain to catch a 16 ounce plastic cup of draft beer as gravity took over and the beer rained down. To make matters worse, the gal I was with turned and pointed at me, laughing hysterically, which only served to p*ss off the two beer drenched BSU dudes who were sitting in front of us even more. Their team gives up a gut punch late goal AND they get drenched in Coors Light. I apologized profusely and they were rightfully ticked off but ultimately very gracious about everything. It also helped (a little) when I ran back down to the concourse and came back with three beers, two of which for these guys. So at the end of the day, the one beer I got to drink amounted to what I ended up paying for five of them. So that’s my lasting memory of Bemidji State hockey.
  13. I loved the Gopher color guy’s comment after Smith scored the 9th goal about rubbing salt in the wound and basically risk waking a sleeping giant for the following game. What’s Smith supposed to do, NOT shoot that puck as he’s coming down Broadway? Plus, it wasn’t like he did some epic cele after the goal.
  14. Funny how it always seems DU getting the benefit of calls like that at Magness.
  15. What’s funny is that all the players and coaches literally could’ve walked about a hundred feet over to the Joy Burns arena and immediately resume play but if you saw the lighting in there you’d understand why that would be a non-starter.
  16. Nothing about Omaha’s performance on Friday instills confidence in me that they will win this afternoon. Looks like the one area of concern with DU is perhaps their goaltending and/or play in the defensive zone. I mean, Omaha did score 4 goals on Friday which normally should give any team a high percentage chance at winning any hockey game. CC has their own set of problems. I saw a stat last night on the scoreboard that says CC’s underclassmen have scored 30 of their 41 goals and have accounted for like, 66 of the teams 106 points. I’m going for memory here so I may be off on the exact #’s but you get my point. Glass half full? Or half empty? Long term, very encouraging that the freshmen and sophomores are competing and having success but discouraging in the sense of what the upperclassmen are (or are not) delivering.
  17. Who was the announcer? Was it the radio voice of the Tigers, Ken Landau? We went to the game, regrettably. CC went 0-8 on the power play, including a five on three and a 5 minute power play. I think the Tigers only got 2 shots on goal during that. The power play got increasingly worse as the game went along.
  18. Yes, including my wife. She’s not a fan. I once at at the Pepper four times on a three day trip to GF.
  19. Cooper Moore with a nifty pass to assist on Q’s 4th goal. He sprung a forward for a break away and a goal with a 100 foot pass, catching Cornell on a bad line change. 4-2, Q.
  20. We tried Skyline Chili one Saturday prior to the UND/Miami game and we weren’t impressed. I actually didn’t mind it so much but yah, a plate full of overcooked wet noodles covered in chili and cheese. To each their own though. I think we were just a little let down because of all the hype we had heard about how great it was.
  21. The days of players like Peter Sejna, Marty Sertich, Brett Sterling, Jaden Schwartz, Rylan Schwartz, Tom Preissing, Mark Stewart, Jack Hillen, Curtis McElhinney, Richard Bachman, Noah Clarke, Chad Rau, and many others. Man, it seems like a lifetime ago when CC had all these fast, skilled, high flying players and teams. I do think we have the right coach in place to get the program back on track though after the disastrous Haviland era ran the program into the ground.
  22. Yes, I watched quite a bit of both games but my top priority was watching the UND games. I did flip back and forth and caught enough of the two CC/Miami games to confidently say that while Mbereko faced over 60 shots on the weekend, there was never a sense of panic among the players (or me the fan for that matter) that there was any reasonable chance of losing either game. CC is much improved over last year, much faster and more skilled freshmen who are really playing well. That said, they aren’t yet top half contenders just yet, IMO. Like Schlossman said in his pre season team previews, CC is likely a season away from truly contending for a top half finish. With that said, part of it was CC playing well but also, Miami just looks like a very bad team. I have memories of Miami shocking UND last fall and winning a game at the Ralph so hopefully that is discussed by the coaching staff with the players to prepare them not to take Miami lightly.
  23. If you’re getting beaten with relative ease at home by CC, you know things aren’t going well.
