  1. I guess if anyone killed rock n roll I would give it to crappy glam rock bands like Kiss and Motley Crue. People got sick of guys dressed up as $2 hookers playing crap music. I will agree with MTV being complete crap, but Nirvana was far from killing rock music. They just made a new style of it popular. Nirvana is on the same level as Kiss et al talent wise, but Cobain was a much better songwriter - or at least kids in the 90's could related better to his lyrics.
  2. I agree with most of what is said on this forum. The Sioux have the talent, but they are not coming together as a team. The Stafford-Zajac-Murray line is a good example, they are three of the best players in college hockey, but they never know where each other are, they make bad passes and are out of position much of the time. As far as players like Canady and Fabian go, I think they are the only one's doing there job. Fabian is a fourth line player, the goal of the fourth line is to give the others lines a rest and not get scored on. The Sioux fourth line hasn't given up many scoring chances. I put more blame on the middle of the roster. Players like Fylling (who is not usually on the 4th line), Prpich, Masson and Porter need to be up where McMahon is in scoring (averaging a little over a point every series). These guys, especially the seniors should be putting up 25-30 points per season. Think back to the national championship years the Sioux had, yes they had some great top end scorers and good goaltending, but they also had a good scoring threat from the second and third lines. Players like Noterman come to mind. Now to finish off this crappy sports weekend with another Viqueens playoff loss.
  3. Wow I guess you put me in my place Since you know me so well maybe you could ID yourself, send me a private mssg if you don't want the board to know who you are. I didn't think so. Stronger hockey backround? I assume you mean background. I played hockey through high school and coached for 5 years. I coached kids that are know seniors in HS, so I saw plenty of these players. I would rate Foss as third in the players you mentioned, behind Weisgarber and Campell. Krause may have sat on the bench last year for Mhd, but he never played more than a few minutes - no Sophomores did. He is a good player, my point was however, he played JV last year. You made it sound like Mhd stocked their JV team with varsity players for the South game. I never said an all West final was likely, just that it could happen. Bismarck and Minot have both beat some good teams. Minot probably has the best player in the state in Willert. Bismarck has Aide who I haven't seen this year, but sounds like a good player. Mandan actually has one of the best players in the State, but gets no recognition because he plays for Mandan. ND PRIDE said it the best - there are 7 teams that could all win state this year.
  4. I don't put much into the article. The father appears to be the one making the decisions - the mother appears a little flaky. It looks the reporter heard what he wanted to hear. In the end I think they will end up deciding it would be better for him to play 150 miles from home in the nicest arena in the world for a program that has produced several first round NHL picks. Remember Tri City is an American team. Much of the crap he is getting is from Americans in Washington. Personally I think the WCHA is a much better league than the CHA has become. They must have at least 50 teams now, watering the talent down.
  5. The Sioux have been missing someone to run the PP since Roche left. Between Lee, Chorney and hopefully Radke they can get it turned around.
  6. I would argue it was the other way around. Foss would be in their top 3 forwards this year. Grafton will be the team to beat in the East next year.
  7. It's too bad Norway didn't make it this year, they probably would have sold more tickets. Yes I'm serious, I'd bet there are several Norweigans around here that would have paid $ to chear on Norway. The US will have a tough time next year. Finland had a ton of young players and should be good next year. The Swiss team was surprisingly pretty good also. 2006 IIHF World U20 Championship Tentative Preliminary Round Groups Vancouver, Kelowna & Kamloops 26 Dec 2005 - 5 Jan 2006. Group A 1. Canada 2. United States 3. Finland 4. Switzerland 5. Norway Group B 1. Russia 2. Czech Republic 3. Sweden 4. Slovakia 5. Latvia
  8. Kessel had one good game. He tried doing his moves against Russia and had the puck taken away from him every time. The Russian's 3rd (?) goal was a result of him trying to carry the puck through two defenders. He lost it and it created a 2 on 1 for the Russians. The kid has great skills, and will be a very good player. However he doesn not have the awareness Crosby has. Crosby is like Gretzky - he is always in the right place and always makes the right decision. He sees the ice better than anyone in the WJ tourny. If Crosby had the ice time, he would easily be leading the WJ's in scoring. For some reason he only plays about 3 minutes a period. Kessel will likely be a mid first round pick. Crosby will be the #1 pick, and will be the highest touted pick since Eric Lindros. Let's just hope he doesn't end up whining about which team picks him and refuse to play until he's traded like Lindros did.
  9. Suter is by far the best d-man on the US team - which may not say much. IMO the only mistakes he has made have been trying to cover for his parter, who is usually in the completely wrong place. He seems to be the only player on the US team that really cares out there (except maybe Stafford). After the Canadian D I still think Suter was the best in the tourny and may be named all tourny. Although I would agree that there are probably 3 other D along with Phaneuf on Canada that would deserve it. As for most disapointing players I would say: - Montoya - he has played ok, but needed to play great. - Callahan - he needed to score more than one goal - Pineault - he is just a bad hockey player, and a whiner - The D as a whole - with maybe exceptions for Borer and Likens- who I think have played ok. I also stand by my opinion that Suter played well. Goligoski has been terrible - and I thought he was the front runner for ROY in the WCHA. Hunwick has been just as bad. Just think next year the WJ team could have Lee, Jones and Chorney
  10. DEFENSEMEN SCORING LEADERS As of 03.01.2005 / Including Game 26 (Ranked by highest PTS / highest G / lowest GP) 1 SUTER Ryan USA 6 1 6 7 Ya leading the tournament in scoring is really killing his future NHL career. Suter has been the best player for team USA. He has logged the most minutes and played tough the entire tourny. If it wasn't for Phaneuf I would give him the nod as the best d-man in the tourny.
  11. I only saw one Russian laying on the ice bleeding. I saw about 10 Russians faking injuries trying to draw penalites. They all had red mouthguards - maybe that is what you saw as blood. It is hard to tell when a player is really hurt - especially when they have been taking dives all game. I have never seen a hockey team act like the Russians did. No US player went after a Russian, although Dowell did get a little cheap with his stick. The US stayed very disciplined IMO. As far as Canadian fans go - there are some real pricks, but as a whole they are great fans. For the most part the anti-US stuff is them trying to start a rivalry - every Canadian I talked to wanted a gold medal rematch. I will be chearing on Canada, in fact I think some anti Russian signs are in order. My prediction for tomorrow - Canada 6 Russia 2. I'm going to go watch Belarus beat the pathetic German team now The Family Guy rules - that video clip would have been a must for the gold game if the US would have won.
  12. I'm hoping for a replay of the 1987 championship game (Canada and the USSR both DQ'd for a 20 player brawl, the gold was given to the 3rd place team). I've never seen a team at that level act like that. If my pee-wee players acted like that they would be benched. The Russian coaches were getting into it also. I cannot believe nobody on the US went after them -a tribute to Sandelin and the players for showing they had more class. From my experience at the games the retarded Canadian fans are the minority, most wanted the US to do well. I will be chearing on the Canadian team, at the same time I hope the Canadian fans in the upper bowel, above 115 (which would be 315 I suppose) fall over the railing in there drunken stupor and all break their legs.
  13. I thought only Americans were arrogant Most of the Canadian fans were cool, but a few were getting a little cocky at the REA. It would make a US win over Canada even more sweet.
  14. After that kid named Crosby I think Lee will probably see more ice time, not necessarily because of how great he played, but rather how poor some other played. Huntwick has been terrible in both games. So has Goligoski, which surprises me. Likens and Suter are the only D playing well. Lets hope someone outside the WCHA gets Kessel, the kid is going to make an immediate impact in college. He looks a lot like Parise on the ice.
  15. Ok Poncho, I've had enough you need to go. You've been here long enough to know YaneA is not a scalper - look who started the thread. This thread was started for her to get rid of some tickets at face value - now below face value. Poncho, you need to a clue.
  16. 5min + 10 min misconduct. Instigator gets game misconduct. Most of the IIHF rules are similar to college. I know any player under 18 has to wear a full mask and a neck guard - which is why Lee and Kessel had neck guards on.
  17. Some of the hotels in town took a gamble jacking up their prices at least 2x the going rate. It appears they lost. I have heard several stories of people driving back and forth from Winnipeg and Fargo. Also the ticket sales are good by WJ tourny standards, but are far from what the REA appeared to hype them up as. In the past weeks I have seen several ads for people dumping tickets asking face value. I friend of my dad was told he HAD to give up his suite by the REA months ago, now they backtracked after not finding a buyer. The problem was is he bought 10 tickets with the money the REA was going to give him for his suite, now the REA is not going to give him anything and he has 10 tickets on top of the suite he cannot get rid of. This is good news for me though, I should be able to get into some of the games for cheap The sales in TRF should be no surprise - no CA/US means few people interested. Look at the US games last year - there were hardly any people at the games in Hameenlinna with Finland and Sweden playing all their games in Helsinki. The tourny will still likely bring in a lot of $$ for GF and be successful. I'm not sure why the REA keeps puffing up the amount of tickets sold. But then again the REA's business practices have been a mystery to me for the past few years.
  18. I'm pretty sure he'd take 'goon' as a compliment Thanks for the clarification with Connelly. Brad Berry and Bob Motzko were at the game (standing together no less ), I'm sure Connelly was one of the kids they were looking at. Cory isn't drafted by a USHL team, but if he keeps playing well I would expect he will be picked in the next draft. Gifford wasn't picked until after his senior year. I don't think VandeVeldie has been picked up yet either. At least he didn't play anywhere before the HS season. I'm not 100% sure how the USHL works now, they used to just have 'protected' HS teams, but since they have the draft now I think they did away with that.
  19. Cousin actually (according to my cousin anyway). He looked good, but was listed at 5-8 and looked smaller than that. Cory is kind of a goon But he goes to the net harder than anyone and creates a lot of chances. I'm excited to see him play juniors next year. I imagine his nose will be about 40 degrees off center after a year in the USHL.
  20. Another funny story from Duluth. Looks like some youth teams are going to be hitting the outdoor ice for the rest of the year. Zamboni explodes; fire destroys arena Larry Oakes, Star Tribune December 20, 2004 DULUTH -- A Duluth hockey arena was destroyed and at least two people suffered minor injuries Sunday night after a Zamboni ice-resurfacing machine exploded during a broomball game, starting a major fire and sending players and spectators fleeing. "It looked like the Zamboni doors flew off onto the ice," a player told KDLH-TV in Duluth, referring to the doors of the enclosure in which the Zamboni sat while waiting to go on to the ice. The explosion happened about 9:40 p.m. at Peterson Arena, 3501 Grand Av. in west Duluth. The witness said the explosion started ceiling insulation on fire, and the building was quickly engulfed. "There were people on the ice that got hit by the doors," the player told the television station. "We all just ran out of there. I think everybody got out." Battling the fireAssociated PressA nursing supervisor at St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth said this morning that one person was treated at the hospital and released. Player Ryan Ringsred, who was bandaged, picked small pieces of Plexiglas from the back of his neck. He was on the ice when the explosion happened. "I was facing the boards when they blew up," Ringsred said. "I was on the ice and the Zamboni blew up behind me. I was flat on the ice." About 30 people -- including two broomball teams and a handful of fans -- were inside the building at the time of the explosion. People who live near the arena reported hearing two loud booms and shortly afterward seeing flames shooting out of the building. Police blocked off streets leading to the arena and city buses were called so evacuees could get out of the cold. Natural gas and electric service were shut off to the burning building, a move that also cut power and gas in the surrounding neighborhood. By 10:15 p.m., the fire had engulfed the north side of the building, and police cleared out the warming house when it looked as if the fire might reach nearby power lines. Peterson Arena is one of two city-owned arenas managed by the Duluth Amateur Hockey Association, which operates some 60 youth hockey teams for more than 800 players. The arena was scheduled to be the site of a number of tournaments through March, according to the association's Web site.
