2025-26 University of North Dakota Hockey Season
SIOUXpucks replied to Frozen4sioux's topic in Men's Hockey
If that's true (Herter was top choice but passed on because of wanting to decide quickly), then that'd be an awfully awkward dynamic between him and Dane to start things off if he came in as Associate. Seems like he'd be a great Associate, but geez, the last thing we need are coaches that again can't get along and work together. -
Well if they actually did keep the puck instead of turning it over as often as they did, perhaps we would also have been better off. We will see if blind, behind the back drop passes directly to the opposing team will work better elsewhere. Agree 100% though that trying to turn smaller, high skill guys into forecheckers is a recipe for failure.

I won’t hate on Penn State for wanting to expand D1 college hockey. I’ll reserve frustration for the Big Ten for having the policy in place to automatically force them to band together exclusively.

2025-26 University of North Dakota Hockey Season

Maybe they didn't envision the dumpster fire that's currently ongoing. Boisvert also apparently made a statement to teammates/friends prior to Berry's release, that if Berry was let go, he was going to transfer out. If he had a strong relationship with Brad and felt he got screwed over (right or wrong), it's hard to blame him. I just figured with likely only one more year of college hockey expected, he'd ride it out here, but if the speculation about wanting to be closer to family so they can see some games is true, well, I get that too. I don't so much understand any participation in a frat donnybrook. -
Unless Hobie enters the portal today. Sure hope that doesn't happen.
-
We might need two goalies from the portal

Perhaps you will end up being originally wrong on Emery, per your recent comment about him staying, which is a good thing...I think. But that's why when I also posted about several possible/likely people leaving back in Feb (was looking for those posts yesterday!), I didn't name any names. Unfortunately it also sounds like we might still be losing at least one more, one who will frustrate me because he wasn't given a fair chance to prove his worth and that the team was invested in him. Fingers crossed that doesn't happen however.

He's not on the roster but with the way things are going right now, we could use such a savior -

Have heard speculation that a local business owner is committed to donating 7 figures per year over next several years and if the majority of that is earmarked for hockey, it seems we’d be in pretty decent shape. -
It’s true. Macdonald also involved but he wasn’t going to be around next year anyway. Swanson may have been more of a bystander. Source? People there and friends of people there.
-
Well, that partially fits what I’ve heard. For those who didn’t think he would be interested and apply, it does sound like he did apply and made it passed the first round of screening to get an interview, along with a few others who have UND ties and have been mentioned at times in this thread. Yes, Jax is also in the mix but unlike what someone else said, Karl didn’t seem to get an interview and I have no idea if he even applied. fully acknowledge all of this as rumor and I what I’ve heard is secondhand and not direct from the supposed inside source. isn’t this so much fun! Also was told that it’s likely that that announcement comes tomorrow. We will see!
-
Maybe Mannino applied, CC found out, got pissed for him being a team traitor, and axed him. Or maybe they just had a worse season than expected, went into a tailspin after a hot start and never recovered, and needed a scapegoat and change of direction.

I don’t know if Guy Gadowsky is a real good coach or a good guy but one thing I’ve respected about Penn St since they went D1,he has them bringing their lunch boxes and putting in the effort. They haven’t always had the skill but they’ve never lacked work ethic.
-
even before I came back here to catch up on posts I was thinking, ‘geez Maine is playing more like UND, with the blind pass D zone turnover that led to a goal and some undisciplined penalties’, so I really chuckled when I read these comments which look like they belong in a UND game thread.

Is Bucci a BC alum or what? The infatuation is so cringy, and Bentley is from a suburb of Boston so in this case it seems not Boston love but just for BC itself. He really was laying into the Bentley goalie about the net issues and got argumentative when Raycroft was defending the goalie a bit and blaming the crap ice. The Bentley goalie may have been pushing the limits a bit, sure, but for crying out loud, BC is a super power compared to them, give him a little slack, and as a broadcaster, be a little bit more impartial.
-
After the back to back BC PP, it'd be awesome to see Bentley get a crack at a PP. That being said, BC could maybe just as easily strike for a SHG on that PP :|

And if you compare PWR and KRACH from this season I think they were closer to each other than they typically are. KRACH has also favored teams in a conference that has the best out of conference record, and NCHC has benefited in the past in that ranking and in PWR, but this year the conference was down relative to HE and B1G. Before the season one couldn't easily predict that happening but everyone goes into the season knowing you need to win the games you should and bad results can bite you in the ass at the end. UND has lived it so many times that you'd think the coaches would be beating it into the boys' heads from the first practice on, but it doesn't seem to sink in until it's too late. I spoke with a couple of players at the Champions ball a few years ago and at that time they didn't seem to really have a good grasp on PWR and it's implications. I would never expect them to understand the intricacies of it all but if the coaches aren't hammering home that they need to beat the likes of BSU and RMU and losses to them can be really bad come tourney time, then that's a coaching fail.

When I read the letter my take was that the "too many to name" comment was in reference to the "Ralph Engelstad staff/employees". Given how long the letter was and how many other people were named specifically, it does seem odd that the associate/assistant coaches were not mentioned, or even Poolman for that matter. Someone else had mentioned that the Dane/Brad relationship was all hunky-dory initially but that it soured over time. I also had heard that Brad had started limiting Dane's voice and influence with the players and that Dane also wanted to handle the most significant locker room issue thing differently but obviously Brad had final say there. I'm not trying to trash Brad at all as he is a genuine guy and I have no doubts that he did everything with the intent that it be for the best of the program, but perhaps his big heart and softer nature clouded his judgement a bit. I don't know who'd be the best next coach either. My first choice wasn't going to be Dane and thought a fresh start would be good, but how in the world do any of us really know what'd be best? Perhaps we shouldn't hold some of his coaching responsibilities and the results of them against him just based on this past year. We have had good forward groups in the past, and a solid PK. This year was a dud sure, but if he becomes HC and brings in some very good assistants, perhaps they can take things a new direction and improve results too. If he's named coach, hopefully he can take the bits of things he has seen and experienced under everyone he's worked with and devise a way to getting the guys truly play the brand of hockey we've grown to love over the years.
-
He can set the tone right away once the seniors are gone and let them know that some of this past season's BS isn't going to fly. Playing time will be earned and transgressions related to moral ineptitude will be met with real consequences.
-
I was intrigued by the idea of considering Bryn Chyzyk as a possible GM to help orchestrate the scouting, recruitment, nil management.
-
Yes, great play. I can't believe how long he was able to kneel there and not get someone's attention to knock him out of place. Also, I thought in the one replay the puck deflected off his glove into net. Is that allowed as long as he didn't swing at it? Or maybe it hit something else.
-
Perhaps because he might be transferring to CC next season to play with his brother
-
They play tonight (Wed) and IIRC the MN tourney usually ends up on Midco ch. 595 or one of those, despite not showing up on the guide. Not at home to verify if the afternoon games are on but I'm sure someone. here can confirm.

Until something happens of course it's speculation, and that's why I didn't share any names, because I definitely agree that's not real fair. The point is that there's considerable unrest in the locker room and if it doesn't get under control, there could be significant fallout. The players (or at least a subset) have lost faith in Brad and have more appreciation and respect for someone else, and that too is adding to the drama of the situation. If Brad can show true leadership and right the ship, more power to him. I don't want anyone fired as much as I just want to see the program thrive in a positive environment.
