I want/wanted Raboin for SCSU but he was still too green when Motzko bolted and they’d be insane to move from Larson so I hope he doesn’t get the UND gig. And I don’t think Chaves has the level of foresight to make the move anyway. But it could be a Carle like hire.

As a player he was the heart, soul, and tone setter of some SCSU teams that were not very talented, but did overachieve. Two year captain and played a fifth year on a medical redshirt. Played a few years in Europe. Was an assistant and GM/recruiter type for a number of excellent SCSU teams under Motzko before taking the same job at Minnesota. Been on successful WJC staffs. Took the head job at Augustana which started up from scratch and has them competitive instantly. Also worked the alumni to which he has no connection to get a brand new arena. As a person, I’ve met him but don’t know him, but people who do say he’s truly the real deal. Genuine, hard working, salt of the earth guy. He’s from Detroit Lakes and played there in HS so a regional connection. He’s been recruiting the same territory as UND for years. Wife is a UND grad. I’d be shocked if they hired him but if he was offered the job I think he would be silly to say no. If it goes right, that’s an if, this could be a home run and a guy who is at UND for 25 years.

Mankato at 14 was the cut off and oddly enough they also got CCHA automatic qualifier. 15 Michigan and 16 Arizona were bumped for ECAC and AHA champs.

SCSU fan here and came here to post this. I’ve run into TH a few different times when we have been in the same hotel in St. Cloud. He is a complete class act and could not be a nicer human. Shot the breeze when he was smoking outside and was just a great dude to talk to. Good on him. Calls a great game as well.

I also question how attractive the UND job actually is in 2024. Don't get me wrong, it's among the best, huge built in advantages. But also maybe some unrealistic expectations of a natty every year. So a guy like Larson or Mayotte may decide it's just better to be appreciated than deal with that. Also, I have less knowledge of CC and Mayotte but Larson brings in a ton of portal guys and they usually perform excellently. This year may be his best freshman class ever, but still not the blue chippaz people on this forum would expect.

If you ever walked around - their campus is gorgeous. And most importantly it's in the middle of Denver.

Raboin is fascinating to me because he’s a straight winner, young guy, from Detroit Lakes. He could be to UND what Carle is to Denver. I'd prefer SCSU lock him up to a lifetime contract but Larson has been too good to move on from.

Can a SCSU fan chime in? I think it's pathetic that the Big 10 tried to do a conference tourney at the X and it was an utter failure compared to the NCHC at Target Center. I hope we never go to home sites. That said, without UND it would be pretty ugly attendance wise. See you guys Friday.

That's not exactly true. A whole lot of fluff at SCSU but they have some degree programs that consistently provide value to students. That's why they have sent walking papers to library professors, philosophy professors, and the like. Not unlike how my other alma mater, UND SoL, cut a bunch of their fat in recent years and wisely so.

When I graduated from SCSU in 2009 enrollment was over 18,000 students. That was more than both UND and NDSU. The salad days are over and the reckoning is upon is.

That is absolutely what happened. New bylaws require 10 conference sponsored sports including football or 11 sports without football.
