really? Just Franks and Cayenne?

Does anyone know if Shark Sauce and Cay Sauce are the same thing? If so, does anyone have a recipe for Cay Sauce? Haven't been there in years, but loved their stir fry back in college and want to try to replicate it.

The top team in the land visits the Ralph. Denver @ UND

I think we need to order about 20lbs of wings from the Cherry Cricket to be delivered to Grand Forks. That and a Josh Rieger pep talk and we have this in the bag! SWEEP! -
I would probably focus on defense here. The offense has been a doing a pretty solid job, though could use improvement. There are plenty of players I would not want to see hit the portal.

2024-25 University of North Dakota Hockey Season

I'm a fan! I don't know Aleksi but his brother is one of the coaches for my son's AAA team, and seems like a great guy. Shakopee (not our association) is doing some great things and I can't speak highly enough about their head coach (Calvin Simon) and his approach to the game and players. Not sure if Huson can work his way into playing time or will be strictly slotted as the 3rd man, but I guess we will see. -
I've never considered SCSU to be a huge rival. Always a good weekend of hockey and generally two really good teams but there isn't that hate like with some other teams. Denver, absolutely! So many crazy games going back to the Paukovich hit on Bina, the brawl at the Ralph, the dasher dance, and some big time hockey games too. Biggest rivalry we kept coming out of the conference realignment. I would even put Duluth over SCSU, there were some pretty big and intense games over the past 10 years; and heated moment (paging Mr. Pionk). MN is not the same as when it was WCHA, but its still a rivalry, with some bragging rights. Just not the same when you don't play twice a year (at least). Back in the WCHA days I would have put Wisconsin up there too, but that has certainly dissipated. Omaha doesn't seem like a big rivalry to me as a UND guy, but I think it is a pretty big one for them.

I don't know of recruiting someone specifically for this, but it seems like it would make sense to take someone with Q's strength and frame ... maybe another TE and work with them specifically for 4th and 1 situations. Q has been absolutely amazing at embracing that role. No trickery needed ... everyone knows what we are doing, but we do it anyway. Would be nice to have a situational replacement for when he is gone.

Now lets get some speedy receivers!

Listening to the podcast, and there is quite a bit of talk about facilities. Hoping that means we will get to see the team in a sweet room on ESPN during the selection show getting announced as a high seed. Would be nice to see some pictures of the offices and team rooms if they are online anywhere. If anyone has a link, please share it.

Really looking forward to seeing the boys back on the ice, but loving that my 10 year old son is absolutely pumped for the season to start. Sharing that makes it even better! That being said .... its a football weekend .... Friday night will just get my sport appetite started for the weekend .... Saturday is the big game! Then hopefully the Vikes can wrap it up for me. Am I really asking for too much here? -
Isn't Romfo 3-0 in the Fargo Dome?
-
I don't think I have seen a single Jerry hater out there. I think most are excited to see him get some play ... if anything they just wonder why he didn't run away with the starting job if he has the talent you tout. That being said, I do hope he is as talented as he has been hyped, and he does need to get some reps and soon! What if Romfo is losing a game and we need a switch. What if Romfo gets hurt. Lets not let our season hinge on one player ... build experience and build depth.
-
Agreed! Its still a good look, but green would have looked really good!

Not down on them, but they can't be a staple of your offense, or they shouldn't be. Pull out trick plays too often and the defense starts looking for them. I think we had a few fleaflickers that got snuffed out last year. Maybe protection just wasn't good enough, or maybe the defense knew what was coming. I would never disagree that they are fun when unexpected and certainly when they work. My favorite misdirection play was Q lined up for the tush push on 4th and 1. Everyone knows what he is going to do ... then a quick pitch to skokna ...4th and 1 and we ran for a bunch! These plays have their place, just not all the time. Of course in our offense, throwing to a TE could be considered a trick play.

Win and clean some things up before Fargo.
-
Certainly can't rely on them as often as we were. They are kind of fun when they are sprinkled in (AND WHEN THEY WORK). But I agree, it is nice to not have an offense that is heavy on those.

I'll take the win. Only got to partially watch it as I had kid's soccer games and hockey today but got to follow along. Was hoping for more of a dominant victory, especially early so we could get some depth players on the field, but maybe next weekend. I am glad they did get the last TD as the score looks more respectable for us, and that is something the committee could look at during the end of the season. Allowed a few too many explosive plays for my taste, but we also seemed to match them with a few. This isn't a W you're going to get overly excited about regardless of the score. Just a game you should win, and credit to San Diego, they have some talent. Onto Murray, lets start the Valley schedule off with a bang and try to take them out of the game early. Like others have said, time to put together a complete 4 quarter game.

Maybe against SDSU?!?!
-
Tell the boys the game is at 12:45, so they actually start playing on time. Let's win the first series this week!
-
Not impressive, unless Joe Protheroe was playing. Greatest FB ever ... should have won the Heisman ... got robbed! All seriousness, I don't see this as any different than playing against Idaho St. You want to be a top 10 of maybe even top 5 team, you don't just win this game, you win by multiple scores. No disrespect to San Diego, this isn't about them as a team, it is about where we need to be as a team. "It's not worth winning if you can't win big!" -Legendary Hawks Coach, Jack Reilly

I like what I am seeing out of Fruechte so far. I'm not going to bash on Danny like some others on here. I get why he made the move and it will likely set him up well for the future. Danny was creative and could pull out some really fun stuff, that being said sometimes it was like a kid playing video games. Not much thought to the full series or situation. I'm sure the thought and planning were there, maybe it just wasn't apparent with some of the calls. Fruechte seems much more consistent in what he is doing. I was getting a little frustrated with all of the passing yesterday, especially later in the game, but he had a plan and it worked. Really looking forward to seeing how he does as the year goes on, especially with some of our bigger games against the other Dakota teams.
-
Well put. Hope they can make some adjustments to limit the running QBs, or we will have some problems with Cam Mattress Miller in a few weeks. We managed to limit him last year, so hopefully we can get juiced up enough to do it again. I think the key to that game will be clock control ... if we can keep going with those long slow drives and chew up clock it would be a big help, but that's a few weeks away yet. I'd like to see some cleaner and dominant performances over the next two weeks.
-
Also, shout out to Touchdown Tommy Schuster who went 8/10 for 97 yards and a rushing TD today in Michigan State's win over Prairie View A&M. Hope he gets to see the field more!
-
Serious questions... do you think this O line would give Jerry the pass protection he needs to do what you want? They have been good at run blocking, but even with Romfo (who can run well) when that pocket collapsed, it happened fast. Do Jerry have the ability and the mentality to escape fast AND make something happen? I have no doubt that with time he has the stronger (and maybe the more accurate) arm, but is the level of maturity and smarts there? Whatever the answer, he needs to at least get some game reps over the next two weeks (assuming we are in control of both games late.

My thoughts: - I said this week that teams like SDSU and NDSU would not be contemplating if we should win this game, but that it should be a blow out. If we want to be in that conversation, that is what we need to achieve. Mission accomplished (this week, at least)! Still need to keep it rolling, but this is exactly how you should win against Idaho St, after upsetting the #4 team in the country. - No! Romfo is not the most amazing QB to ever play the game. Some of those throws were absolutely horrific. That being said, he still won a blowout game, and his numbers were better than we are used to seeing at UND. ISU was going to shut down the run, which they did for quite a while forcing UND to throw, and it worked. Again, Romfo is not going to be Arch Manning but he did what was needed and certainly improved over the past two weeks; more improvement still needed! @SIOUXFAN97 I get your frustration with wanting a gunslinger and hoping that is Jerry, but your efforts to point out every one of Simon's shortcomings completely ignore many of the positives that have happened. Great at running, has improved week over week. 2-1 with a loss to Iowa St. Upset the Grizz. Dominated Idaho St. ..... I'm not saying he is the answer, but what are you going to say when Jerry gets in and rifles three INTs? Not saying that is going to happen, and I'm pulling for Jerry as much as the next guy. I will say, I thought it was ridiculous to not get Jerry in for the full fourth quarter to get some meaningful reps. I understand that if you think Simon is your guy, you need to get him reps as well, as he is still new to leading the college offense, but the opportunity was there to build depth through experience, and as we have seen over the years, UND coaches did not take it. Should be some opportunities over the next two week, so hopefully there is some consideration of this. - We have a embarrassment of riches at RB right now. Z, Smith, Seidel all look great. Throw Hunt into the mix, as he has certainly made the most of his opportunities both last year and this year. I think you have to find a way to get him on the field as well. Excited to see what Brunell can bring to the group. - Bo is Bo! - Love the defensive pressure! Happy to see Hembry get that INT. - Rucker is a machine and is only going to get better. - I was a little frustrated that we went pass heavy, especially in the second half, but as UNDFootball360 pointed out, they were stacking the box and making it tough to go up the middle. That being said, I thought some of the situational calls were questionable. You can still run up the middle on 3rd and 4 on their half of the field. Get 2 or 3 ... you always have Q to help convert, and we know that is reliable. - Interesting comments questioning why Q isn't our running QB. He is big and slow. Great for a short yardage conversion but isn't going to be a Romfo or Cam Miller type player. He knows his roll, owns it, and does what is asked of him. If there are questions around how we are using him, I'd ask why we don't throw it to him a bit more. - Amazed by some of the complaints on here after we followed up a huge upset, with a dominant win. A win where we left no doubt, but still showed room for improvement. This team has plenty to cleanup, meaning even with the upset and the blowout this week, we aren't even close to our ceiling. - I'm not even close to crowning these guys champions, but they definitely show potential and are intriguing. Is our ranking warranted ... maybe? Too soon to tell. Let's take care of business the next two weeks and head into Fargo with momentum. Defend last year's win and take advantage of a team that, to be honest, got pretty lucky late today. That would have been a huge upset against the Bison, and something they are not used to seeing. Fun season! LFG!
