And a TD on a sick scramble play. Made something out of nothing.

I could only follow the score during the first half as I was at my daughter's soccer game. What I did get to watch on my phone was disappointing. Holy hell did this team settle in, and getting home to watch the second half worked out perfectly. Was so impressed with the defense in the second (when they were needed) and the offense just keeps churning out these great extended drives. Would definitely like to see a little more out of the passing game, but hopefully that will come. So impressed with Romfo's running. WHAT A WIN! Lets Go!

Sounds like Bergen will be playing this week. Egriz forum says he is out of the blue jersey at practice. Wilson, Grossman and others likely still missing.
-
Greens would be cool, but its still a good look. I just wish the helmets had the ND on them. Loved that!
-
Not going to argue with you there. Was hoping the Romfo was just player that well to win the job, but it is more concerning that Feeney or Kaminski could elevate their game and solidify the spot. Hopefully it gets better as the season goes on.

I get it, and I certainly don't have a ton of playin experience, but I'm betting he can sharpen up some of those throws. He may have been in college football or a few years, but how many games has he started? how many game snaps has he taken? how many FBS stadiums has he played in. Tommy certainly makes that TD pass, but I don't think he makes as much happen with his legs. Romfo also had some clutch passes on 3rd down; credit where credit is due. I'm not looking to be an apologist for Romfo, but one game against Iowa St. is a small sample size. Maybe Jerry would have made a better throw or two, but would he have been able to replicate some of the positives that Romfo had? I have no clue. Overall, my post was really just calling out some of the positives and negatives I saw.

I guess I haven't seen anyone calling this a win or a moral victory; maybe there have been some. For me, I was just surprised with some of the positive takeaways: -O line was far better than I expected given the losses. -Run game is deep. Z is fun to watch and I'd like to see Seidel get some more touches. -LB play was good; Rucker was noticeable. -D played much better than I was expecting. Holding down the run and forcing some punts. We gave up 21 points (or more) 8 times last year (to FCS schools) ... 9 with the Boise loss (which was ugly). Obviously there were some glaring issues as well: -A few of Romfo's passes; the missed TD pass to Nate D. But lets let the kid settle in a bit. -Kicking - Can't be missing some of these FGs or sending kick offs out of bounds. -Pass protection - I'm sure this will get better, but I was actually impressed with the coverage on the first play. Safeties were all over that guy; no clue how he reeled it in. -D line needs to get more pressure on the QB. Montana should get a more well rounded picture of where this team sits, and I'll be interested to see how Iowa St does moving forward as well.

Could really set the tone for the season. We would have all like to see a W in Ames, but it was better than I expected given the departures we had (players and coaches). It certainly wasn't an embarrassing loss like we saw against Utah, Washington and a few others. First play of the game was just plain luck to make that catch in solid double coverages; which set them up for the quick score. Would have been nice to have a TD on that long 2nd Q drive. I wish we had kept running up the gut instead of passing in the red zone; could have made it close enough to go for it on 4th. Then the missed pass to Nate D. was disappointing. A few mistakes and place were the turning point in this game. Next week will tell us more, but could be an interesting season. Nice to see UND sustain some drives when they had the ball rather than the quick 3 and outs.

Rugby Rocket? If that is the one .... wow, was it ugly!
-
so he had 100% passing completion last season!?!?!? That has to be like the in all of college football, right?

Wow, just popped in and saw the Romfo news. Very intriguing! I've been very hopeful towards Jerry, but assumed Feeney would secure the spot because of his time at UND. I will say I love that the staff isn't just going status quo with this. You always hear coaches say stuff like it is an "open competition", but clearly that was the case here. Congrats to Simon stepping the F up and earning his shot ... now the real battle begins, keeping it! I hope like hell he can step in and be a dude, surprise some people and get some wins. Sounds like a kid who just has the confidence to do what is needed. I'm sure Trey and Jerry will be battling for their time and hopefully we still get to see some of them this year (because of garbage time, not because of injury). I was listening to the podcast this weekend and thinking about how great it would be if we could be the USD of last year. A team that didn't come in with any major expectations, but really burst on the scene with some surprise playmaker and some solid wins. You never know what will happen with college football, so we will see, but as a fan base, we are definitely overdue for something to be happy and excited about. Would be great to see a surprise in Ames (even if it isn't a W) and hopefully a really good showing against Montana. Lets F-ing Go!

I've never been overly impressed with Dennis to make him a clear #2. I like him and he has made some solid catches and taken some big hits like a dude, but I've heard for a few years about his speed, but still haven't seen any serious separation or deep threat. Honestly I probably like Klein more when he is health. Big, hard to defend, catches anything within his massive wingspan. Really excited for the potential of Tai or Deng. Hope someone can really breakout and be a difference maker.

Maybe they don't identify as white ... we could be crazy good if that's the case!
-
I suppose with the transfer portal these days, its good to continue recruiting them just incase where ever they go doesn't work out, or they decide they want to come closer to home.
-
I guess I wouldn't retire either if they were going to keep paying me to do the same thing. Not going to bash to the level of saying he does nothing, but he isn't taking us to the next level. But as a guy who enjoys a paycheck, I'd take the money if they kept giving it to me too.
-
Yep, about 15 yards behind the line of scrimmage before fumbling.
-
I never expected Carle to be as great of a college coach as he has been. I remember being surprised that Denver was hiring this young kid, but wow, has he done a heck of a job there. There really isn't anything to dislike about the guy; I was never a big Montgomery fan (though also a good coach, but Gwoz was the best.

Maybe covid can make a swift comeback for the weekend. Just enough to cancel the tourney. Then back to normal.
-
I hate that its for the gophers, but I still love when big time players stick around longer than expected. Its good for the college game.

Can he have a covid year?

Maryland Heights Regional -- UND vs Mich & MSU vs WMU

C'mon now, its a simple formula .... recruit grindaz (you want the right players, not the best ones), bag skate the team, threaten to replace a guy and flip an equipment table in the locker room. You'll motivate them to win a championship or maybe even the Olympics! -

I have to imagine it'll be pretty green in there. Nice for our team. If they are going to play in MO, it helps to have fans. I'm sure there will be some Michigan fans, not sure how well Western or State travel for hockey. It would be really nice to own the state of Michigan by Sunday. -

Get Heinert involved with this. Let him and Starman do a game. Heinert will come in far more prepared and educated than half of these guys.- 384 replies

Yeah, I wasn't talking in comparison to other schools, more in general. Everyone knows UND isn't competitive in the salary market for football. The implication was not that Bubba is overpaid, but that his performance has hardly warranted multiple extensions. Let's be honest, regardless of what anyone feels a head football coach should be paid, $250-$300k a year is a damn nice life when you're living in Grand Forks.

Always someone to pick apart a comment.... Mrs. Schweigert I presume? Maybe I should have used the term underperform?!? I'm sure Bubba "works hard" to a point, but for a guy that supposedly know defense, it has been lacking big time, and he doesn't seem to be concerned with making any sort of changes to improve it. Undersized and underskilled year after year after year. Regardless of the "working hard" piece, the point of the comment was that he has been making nice money, will continue to make nice money, and we are going to be stuck without much of a buyout option even if the guy completely tanks over the next couple years. Bubba's body of work speaks for itself, but this contract is a reflection of Chaves lack of awareness.
