  1. Seems like you're trying to turn a lot of speculation and reading between the lines into solid fact. Nobody on here knows what the coaches are seeing or thinking or wanting. No need to make a snap judgement before the season has even started though. You're also not always paying someone to make the immediate impact, but rather saying we have to get through this season, do what we can with what we have got and think towards the future.
  2. I meant more that there should be a package for Simon. Brockstarish if you will. Agreed, but didn't Freuchte say something to the effect of he expects to see multiple guys at some point because he thinks there is too much talent in the room? FWIW, I agree with you, I'd like to see one guy take over and really be the guy.
  3. I can't imagine a scenario where Simon get the starting job. Given what we saw overall last season, a new coaching staff, a transfer they brought with them and what we have heard from coaches ... I just don't see it. I do think he will be worked in, and he should, I just don't think he should be the starter. QB1: JTJ/Jerry QB2: JTJ/Jerry QB3: Simon (experience) QB4: Sulik (Coaches said he is looking good, but needs to be quicker on decisions) Edit: FWIW, If Simon wins the job and steps up to dominate and play well. I will gladly eat some crow. I like some of his flashes last year, but hated the consistency. I'd like to see someone a little more physical and with a little more zip on the ball. But when it comes down to it, I just want to see us win!
  4. Anyone know why they still haven't updated the rosters on the website yet? I don't know if they have updated weights but still have last year's pictures.
  5. Really enjoyed the most recent 360 podcast. Freuchte sounds like a really good dude. Excited to see what he does with his tools this year and hopefully for several years to come. I have to imagine if he shows some success he won't be around long, but I'd rather lose a talented guy in a few seasons because he was that successful rather than have mediocrity linger. Can't wait for K State; we are almost there! Lets Go!!!
  6. Is anyone going to tell JTJ that we don't use tight ends at UND? Tupou'ata-Johnson was in sync with his tight ends on Thursday. He connected with Missouri State transfer Watson Hafer and Maple Grove true freshman Nathan Hromodka, in addition to his long ball to Kallstrom.
  7. Correct, I'm not sure where I got Utah Valley from. It has been that kind of week.
  8. Utah Utes smoked us. I don't think that one was ever close. Utah State was the game where we were up. First 3 TDs were all by different QBs if I recall. It was peak Danny trickery, but it wasn't sustainable. I feel like there were some weather delays in that one too. https://www.espn.com/college-football/game/_/gameId/401310701/north-dakota-utah-state
  9. Agreed, you should always play to win the game! And obviously a loss to K-State doesn't ruin the season, so long as the team plays a full 4 quarters of good football. I'd feel better about it if Schmidt was 2-3 years in and had fully installed his own guys and system but still have to give it a shot. Bowling Green was a killer as that should have absolutely been a W. "We let them off the hook" Utah Valley State- Weren't we up by a bit? Lots of trick plays to score ... we ran out of gimmicks ... our D couldn't keep us in the game. Nebraska - Good first half but couldn't play a full game. Iowa State - Great effort but couldn't play a full game and couldn't score. Really hope Schmidt can get the job done, but at this point its all repetitive talk. I just want to watch some football.
  10. DON'T TRY TO DISTRACT EVERYONE WITH YOUR FACTS!!! Did we or did we not beat him!?!?!? Jk, I actually didn't remember that his action was so limited. That was so long ago, I had to listen to the game on the radio, I don't think there was a streaming option for that game. I do remember it being Santiago's breakout game. Would love to see us make a splash against K-State. I get that we should be there to try to win, but I'll be happy if we play well and pass the eye test. Can't expect Schmidt to step in and have everything perfect and all the right players from the get-go, but I'm hoping he actually brings a coaching aspect that could change the game. I think about all of the opportunities UND has had to win some FBS games where some different coaching could have helps. Bowling Green, Utah State ... even Iowa State and Nebraska. Three of those we fun games, but one team's coach made adjustments, while the other team's coach was thinking about how not to stumble during the Griddy. I digress, can't wait for football!!
  11. I remember UND playing ok against some guy named Josh Allen.
  12. I'm assuming he is referencing the Verhoeff comment. As much as I would like to see DuPont commit, I'm not sure there is much to this. Doesn't mean he won't land here, I just don't think Ellis knows anything on this one.
  13. Anyone have any camp updates? Are we ready to hang a banner? When's the parade?
  14. I don't know that we as fans will really be able to break down the direct coach impact to the play and how that correlates, but I am interested to see if the coaching change is visible through how the team gels and plays on the ice. Hearing about how Berry wasn't putting as much effort into recruiting as we may have expected, raises the question on if the level of effort was there in getting these guys to buy in and play the team game. It may have had nothing to do with Brad, but I've said before that some of these recent teams just never passed the eye test. You knew the skill was there, but there never seemed to be a crisp, clean, cohesive team game. Definitely been a while since I've been overly excited about UND hockey, and I'm really hoping this helps turn it around.
  15. So they are ok with their starter surpassing Simon and not having experience, but their backup needs to have experience because of potential injury? That math isn't mathin for me. It should be whoever gives them the best opportunity regardless of experience. Simon had his shot last year, and while he showed flashes, I think he also showed a ceiling. I have said I think he absolutely needs a part in this offense, I'm just not confident it is a full time QB spot. Unless the coaches are seeing something far different than what we watched all season.
  16. Don't forget his cousin Spuds
  17. C'mon now, where are all of you with the inside scoop!
  18. Isn't that what they have been doing since Berry got canned?
  19. Oh I remember, and I get the frustration. There are always some vocal individuals that will always want more. But I'll take appearances and no titles, over no appearances at all. I know Berry had the one title (with Hak's team) then completely drove everything into the ground. I know we would have had a great shot in 2020, but there were no guarantees there either. I just know that you can't win the tourney if you aren't even there.
  20. These work great. Could have been far worse! Diagonal Nodak looks outstanding! I really like the black .... could business suits be a thing again? Or is that another thing Berry destroyed? I'm with @stoneySIOUX, I like the simplicity. I'm a retro guy, so new and flashy doesn't do much for me. I also agree with @RhettRingers that there should be a combo of the green jerseys with green breezers and helmets. Though I suppose they could work that combo in if they want.
  21. I really like how Bryn doesn't just do the job with recruiting, but also hypes, teases and engages the fan base. This staff has been doing everything right so far (we will see about jersey's soon enough). The question will be if they can put it together on the ice. Let's get back to the Hak Hockey expectations! I know there were a lot of pain points during the regular season with Hak, especially early on in the season, but you always knew you were making the tourney, and with a high chance to be in the Frozen Four. Would be really nice to get to enjoy some postseason hockey again.
  22. I think we have talked about how QB competition is good, and the QB room is looking better and better ever since we had Bartles and Mollberg and yet we really haven't had any dominating QBs who have completely taken over games. I really did like Studrud and Schuster, but both had their own limitations. Hopefully we see some legit competition and see someone actually step up to be a real leader and take over games. JTJ - The shiny new toy from the big school! Excited to see what this kid can bring, but we don't know much about him. I'll trust that the coaches see enough potential, or they wouldn't have brought him with, but he clearly isn't going to be handed the job either. I want to temper expectations because I was also extremely pumped for Quincy Vaughn when we landed him and he was not I was expecting at all. Played a great role and was a great guy to have on the team, but he was hardly the passer I was hoping for. Even as a runner, apart from the 4th and 1 situation, he wasn't going to run for yardage. Again, really excited for the potential here. Jerry - We have been hearing about how good Jerry could be for years. Can Schmidt and company pull a KOC style move and be the QB whisperer? If the tools were really there, maybe having a different style of coaching will be enough for him to break out. I don't think we have really seen enough to say he is THE GUY, but hopefully! Concerning that he couldn't beat out Simon last year, but was that a coaching oversight? Some players may not dominate practice but know how to step up in live games. Hoping for a great battle between Jerry and JTJ. Simon - Saw enough last year. Commend Simon for some of the plays he made as an undersized athlete, but this isn't a guy who is going to lead you to a national championship either. I do think there is a role for him in our offense as a swiss army knife type player. There is certainly athletic ability there and hopefully the coaches find a way to use him. Need some Freund type creativity to come up with some plays for Simon. Sulik - I don't know much. Sounds like the size is there. Sounds like he has impressed some.
  23. I remember a Denver player hitting a high C when he took a face off against Prpich back in the day. Cup check anyone?
