  1. If UND goes with Pride, I would find it fairly hard not to join the chants. I'll still cheer for the team, but how can you blame and opposition for not spiking the ball when you float it up to them like that.
  2. "But UND signed a legal document saying they will adopt a new one" Ambiguous .... University of North Dakota would be a new reference to the athletics teams, as Fighting Sioux would be old.
  3. I understand needing to pick a name, then the committe needs to give us something better than the University of North Dakota Pride or Sun Dogs.
  4. Unless they pick North Dakota as their name. That is picking a new name to identify themselves. "New" - as in not their "former" name. If your argument is that the University of North Dakota has been around since 1883, they have never used that over a different nickname. They were flickertails, fighting sioux, nothing .... and now? NoDaks isn't a NEW term so thats out. Sun Dogs certainly aren't a new thing...can't use that. Roughriders are certainly not NEW ... take that off the list. I'm sure you have big time connections, but it is possible that the school and committe have more knowledge on the whole process than you, and I am inclined to believe that UND would't be moving forward in this process with some input or communication with the NCAA. I could be wrong, but if North Dakota is on the list, it is likely very much in play.
  5. I agree, it is certainly better than most of the names on this list. You could come up with a decent logo, and at least there would be some meaning or reason behind the name. More so than Spirit, Pride or Force.
  6. Any word on which freshmen will be in GF all summer? I saw that Mason Bennett will head to UND right after graduation, which is awesome. Hoping most freshman will do the same, particularly our running back recruits. The more experience and work they get in right away, the better off they will be this fall.
  7. and Boom goes the dynamite!
  8. gotta love when posters play the lawyer role.
  9. depends? over Pride, Spirit, Force or Sundogs ... YES, well worth the gamble.
  10. If you really don't want North Dakota, get a committee that can provide better options than Pride or Spirit. Then we can talk.
  11. School has done their part. Neither the School nor the NCAA can or will controll what fans chant/wear/refer to the team as. Overly asserting this type of control is just furthering the liberal notion to control everyone is the PC world these people want to live in.
  12. Classic!
  13. I don't read the Herald, so sure .... I mean seriously, we have to listed to the argument of marketing and national exposure and then you are going to reference The Herald ...
  14. I get what you are saying, but in this day and age when you are adopting a new nickname, you would like to think a committee of educated indivuals would do better than Spirit, Pride, Blaze, Force, Sun Dogs, Etc. The only names on this list that could even be considered (North Dakota, Nodaks, Roughriders, Cavalry) Names that could have been in the top 15 that would have been better than the majority of this list: Nokota, Flickertails ... even oilers, jets, aviators (which I never really liked, but are still better than most of this list)
  15. Agreed. I know my vote is for North Dakota. BUT Roughriders, Cavalry and Nodaks would be acceptable. The rest of these names are just trash.
  16. Could be true, but even so ... maybe in 10-20 years they can come up with a better list than these clowns did.
  17. Not even going to get drawn into the debate of "new" nicknames. The option is on the list. BUT don't be so ignorant to think that simply adopting a new nickname will eliminate anyone's use of Fighting Sioux. If we stay North Dakota, some will continue using Fighting Sioux. If we adopt a new nickname, some will continue using Fighting Sioux. Regardless, it was already dropped officially. As far as the NCAA is concerned, the school has moved on.
  18. Then it would just look like one of those spearment hard candies. The kind you see sitting in a bowl at your grandma's house, with a nice coat of dust on them (probably been there about 6 months). You all know what I'm talking about.
  19. I don't think I could handle Buccigross for another season, if Eichel is playing college.
  20. Again, staying North Dakota is not even about keeping an unofficial nickname at this point, it is about not permanently embarassing ourselves with the rest of this trash. If there were better options on this list, I wouldn't argue your point. I though Nokota was a legitimate option [i always preferred just North Dakota], but I could at least understand your point. North Dakota is actually the best option on this list, which speaks volumes about the list the commitee put out. Again, I understand your point for wanting a new nickname/identity, but these options are just not the solution.
  21. Actually it looks like an ugly Christmas ornament. That one that just stays in the box every year, because you don't want to hang it up, but you can't throw it away either.
  22. I would rather have no identity, that be the UND Pride/Spirit/Blaze/SunDogs.
  23. It would not be University of North Dakota North Dakota... It would be University of North Dakota!
  24. Blaze - Terrible, this isn't even a thing. Cavalry - Could be worse, but as mentioned people will mispronounce and misspell it Explorers - Already used, and what would our logo be? Lewis and Clark in a canoe? Very intimidating ... No thanks! Fighting Green - This isn't a thing ... No Fighting Hawks - A terrible attempt to hold on to "Fighting" Force - It was a terrible name when Fargo used it, it would be a terrible name for us. What the logo? Force isn't a thing ... put it is a bag with spirit, Pride, Blaze and throw it away. Green Hawks - Not a real thing, sad attempt to incorporate Green into the name. Nodaks - Could be worse, essentially the same as just keep North Dakota, but with the use of an official name. North Dakota - Best option of the bunch. It has been working for us, and there is really no better option on this list. North Stars - MN former pro hockey team. You want more ridicule, steal their name. North Dakota is not the North Star state. This does not make sense. Pride - If this this is referencing the gay pride movement, then NO. If this is reference the term associated with Lions, then NO. Roughriders - Local HS name, who cares ... probably in my top 3 on this list (which doesn't say much, this list is terrible) Spirit - Did someone really think this was a good idea? We've got Spirit! Yes we do! We've got Spirit! Shoot us now! Sundogs - Nothing will intimidate the opposition like light interacting with ice crystal. Can't believe this is a "top 15" name Thunderhawks - Why do we keep trying to use Hawks? Is Grand Forks now a hub for Ornithology? Plain and simple North Dakota is the best option on this list, maybe not the the best option altogether (for those of you who think we NEED a new nickname), but it certainly is the best option on this list. Not a big fan of Flickertails, but that would have been better than the majority of this garbage, and the fact that Nokota was scrubbed is pretty pathetic to, considering what the committee put out there. Also have to express my complete disappointment with the committee. There are some individuals that were on that committee who I was actually pretty happy about. I figured with some of those names, we had a chance to get this process done right. Apparently I was wrong, and certainly have less respect for those people, now that I see what there "hard work" has accomplished. Co-works and Friends are absolutely having a blast laughing at this list, and the real potential of what our school's nickname could become. It was sad and hard to lose the Fighting Sioux, but it adds insult to injury to move to a name that others will absolutely ridicule. The only salvation to this abysmal process would be to remain North Dakota!
  25. Well, at least non-fans are getting a kick out of this list. One of my co-works was practically in tears he was laughing so hard at most of these names. This is seriously painful. North Dakota is the only legit option here. Everyone I've talked to, who is not a UND fan agrees that North Dakota is the best option going forward. It is not about "North Dakota or Nothing", or about Fighitng Sioux Forever" .... North Dakota should remaing the name, because the rest of this list is just completely pathetic.
