I just saw Santiago was listed as a top 5 FCS freshman. Pretty awesome recognition, and (fumbles aside) well deserved. Most explosive back we have had since Chappell. Really excited to see what this kid will be in the next few years. However, UND needs to get those uniforms to match those helmets next season. Really the helmets looks great and the jerseys look great. We just need them to match. I hope to see the jersey color lighten up to match our helmets.

^This ..... The reasoning behind these votes really doesn't matter. Everyone gets their vote, that's it. I find fighting hawks incredibly bland. Not a fan of it, but if that is what people vote for, and it wins, then so be it.

Not sure, I didn't go to RR, and even so. I think we are all aware of how immature student age kids can be. Including our own student. Bottom line is, any and every name will get made fun of in some way. Do you think if we are the Roughriders, nobody will find some type of improper or repulsive name? I see Roughriders winning a close race, though Nodaks has a chance. Either way, lets just go with it. Hell either way, I'll be wearing my Sioux jerseys to the hockey games, and I'll probably wear my old sioux shirts to the football games. Who cares? Maybe I'll buy a Roughrider or Nodak hat. I don't know, but I think we may need to chill out a bit. I don't even read the herald much. I don't live in GF.

I think its pretty sad that you are already making fun of what could very well be the new name. I get not liking it, but you are throwing every random reason out there to bash on whomever votes for it, just because you don't like it, and it is actually in contention. Will it win? I don't know, we'll see, but why chastise the people who vote for it. You think opponents won't find other reasons to make fun of us? All fanbases do it, including us. Nodaks - Nodicks Fighting Hawks - Fighting Hicks Sundogs - Enough said, makes fun of it self Roughriders - they'll throw condoms at us, make obscene signs, etc North Stars - Just let the MN crowd have a field day with it. Gophers - Goofers, Golden Chokers The point is, rather than chastising those that you don't agree with your specific vote, lets all accept the name will probably by Roughriders or Nodaks .... possibly Fighting Hawks, and just get ready to accept one of those. Will it stop you from supporting UND? Will you support them, but always antagonize the name if it isn't what you want? If you really hate Nodaks, then just stick with UND or Sioux, or North Dakota. Hell call them Roughriders if you really want ... but lets not bash every person for voting something different, just because it doesn't align with your own personal view.

I'm not trying to deny anything. I already said I don't think any of the names are good, but I though Nodaks was the best of the choices given. And even if it is similar to North Dakota, and that is someone's choice for voting for it, who cares? Thats we we all get a vote ... because we all have an opinion. Don't get me wrong, I think voting for Sundogs is ridiculous, but if someone really thinks that is the best option, then thats why they get to vote. I guess I don't understand if you are criticizing "Nodaks", or peoples individual reasons for voting for it. Truth is, it doesn't matter. At the end of this, there will be a new name, and we'll all just have to live with it.

For the record, I always wanted Mollberg over Bartels. I've really never been impressed with him.

Why do you automatically assume that is the sole reason anyone would choose Nodaks? Couldn't possibly be because they don't like the remaining options? Personally I don't like any of them I don't like Nodaks the least. Sounds to me like you just don't like Nodaks, and you're pissed off that enough people do like it that it may actually win. While that is understandable, grouping everyone reasoning together and accusing their votes of being made in bitterness is a little unnecessary. Do you plan to stop supporting the teams or programs if they become the Nodaks? I know I won't retract my support if they are the Roughriders, even if that wasn't my vote. Might be time to chill out a bit, this vote isn't exactly ideal for anyone.

I agree. If Studsrud was ready, he should be in. I think Bartels and Mollbers are somewhat interchangable, but give what we have seen in the past I still give Joe the edge. I think Bartels has shown just how limited he is. I think he has a good strong arm, and every once in a while will hit the deep ball; but this offense does not, and can not, live on the deep pass. I just think we have seen what he has and Joe would give us a better chance to win.

I would be really interested to know how many official votes were made yesterday, compared to how many will trickle in over the rest of the week. I would think most people would have already voted.

But does anyone know what happened when he left UND? I just remember he went on this sudden leave, then it was extended, then he resigned? Was he going to get axed anyway. Seemed like a really strange situation. Didn't realize he was a West Point grad with an engineering background.

Maybe a bit, but not as much as you think. There are a couple people who have said that swayed their vote, but Nodaks was picking up steam well before the hockey teams and their coaches said anything about how they would vote. Honestly, I think the public chatter within this forum, the explanation and reasoning printed in the herald and the limited options has more to do with Nodaks becoming popular.

Thats the tough part. Its fun to look at an exit poll, and I think it tells us, in conjunction with twitter and media news, what the top two are, but there is no way to know for sure what is ahead, and how it will play out.

This is downright hilarious! I have to agree, in what world would 100% of the voters for Sundogs shift to another name and 100% of the voters for NS and Fighting Hawks shift to another? And what is driving these momentous shifts? I'm not disagreeing with your final percentages, those are plausible, but your means of getting there ...... ? ? ?

Just kidding, not too bad considering he is a walk on with no real game experience at this level. Fortunately, he has a strong defense in front of him, and some pretty potent scoring. I think he knows he role ... to bridge the gap until the top two are back. Great opportunity for the guy.

Well then you have taken a closer look at it than I have. Either way, they are 4-0 and have beat some good teams. I wouldn't call us the team to beat right now either. We played well, but we need to solidify that goalie spot. Nothing against Hrnkiw, but Cam and Matej should be the guys on the ice. Really looking forward to seeing Tomek. I don't expect him to be a brick wall right away, but he should definitely be competitive right away. Cam is still pretty unseasoned, but has shown a few flashes. It will get better. We have been pretty pampered with good goal-tending over past 10 years.
