Well that is a tear jerker of an article. Hope everything works out for this kid, on and off the field. Sounds like he had made several good decisions in life, without much guidance on which path to take. Also sounds like he could be a big time role model for his nephew. Very excited to see how his career plays out. On the football field, I really hope we see him as a slot receiver. We're deep at RB, and this kid could be the burner type of WR we have been missing. Anyone know if he would expect to play next year? Not sure how that works with a kid starting school mid-year. It'll definitely get him up to speed quickly. I'd assume he plans to stick around through the summer as well.

I won't disagree with ya on that. For as many good fans as there are, there are some really terrible ones. People who basically think if you aren't ranked #1 then you are a terrible football team. Not a fan of that kind of thinking. There are plenty of really good team not called NDSU.
-
Not disagreeing that NDSU fans have crossed that line, but I have also seen UND fans at the Ralph screaming at Gopher fans, and actually making little kids cry. Point being is that ever fan base has people, that the majority of the fanbase wishes didn't represent them. Unfortunately for everybody, it is usually the worst kind of fans that represent a fan base the loudest (same reason so many schools hate UND in hockey; we have some obnoxious fans too).

A home game against the top team in the country ..... why would they buy out? (Yes, that was intended as UND being the top team )
-
I may be a little bias the other way, because I have family that are huge Bison fans, and I try to get out an tailgate with their group. BUT any time I've been tailgating in Fargo (and I always where my Sioux gear), I'm welcomed with a little friendly ribbing, some free beer, and some football talk. Some wonder when we will join the MVFC conference, because they want the old school rivalries, some can't say enough nice things about Bubba and the direction of UND. Overall, they are fun people; but naturally there are some obnoxious ones. Truth be told, UND has some fans like that as well.
-
Plenty of UND fans that are the same way. Every school out there has fans like that.
-
SO in 17, JR in 18, SR in 19 (When we play NDSU)
-
Now, now, let not be those guys. Largely, as a group, they are actually really fun people. Most of whom have been complimentary of what Bubba has been doin up North. BUT there is definitely an obnoxious vocal minority. Some of that comes with people who are just obnoxious, some comes with winning a ton. Overall their fan base has some really great people, with a few really bad fans.

If he is willing to outplay Brady or John or Austin for playing time, that is awesome! Hope we see more of John at WR and a Brady/James backfield with some Austin mixed in.

I believe that rumor was confirmed in a different thread. Not only will Phil be returning to Grand Forks, but he will also be donating a new on-campus stadium for the football team.
-
Not going to disagree with that. I guess a lot of it comes down to who is available as well. Like I said, I don't know much about basketball, but you definitely want to get the "right" guy. Replacing Jones, just to replace him, isn't necessarily a good move either.
-
I'm hoping the football team is there in numbers. They do a great job of getting the crowd into it. Of course that will obviously draw ridicule from Fargo, as they will point out that our Football players have plenty of time on their hands since they aren't playing .... puke
-
True, though I haven't gotten too into the women's team in a while. Its hard to follow and watch everything.
-
I've said it multiple times that I am not a great basketball mind, but I've never been totally sold on Jones. He's put a few nice season together, and certainly brought in some fun players. Huff, Hooker, Nash, etc. I do hope he does well and can stick around, because it does suck to have to start over, new recruits, new style of play and so on. I guess we'll know more as the season moves forward.

haha, well there were a few who though UND was good, but most seemed to be of the opinion that UND was bad, and NDSU was really bad. Which like I said, could look completely different in a week. Just realized that Saturday's game is on at 7, so its looking like the second weekend in a row where I'll be dragging a second TV into my living room. Basketball on 1 tv via Roku, and Hockey on the other (since the game will be on Fox College Sports). Would be really great to see UND beat UNI, especially after the beat down we got last year. Also lost to them in the CIT a few years ago. We have the team to stay competitive, but need a more typical game from Q.

Bisonville is pretty funny right now. Half melt down about the fact that they lost; with some that can't believe they got smoked by "a very bad UND team". Pretty funny really. I'm not saying that we are Duke or Kentucky (obviously), but this is a pretty experience team, with some good leaders. I would call them outstanding (yet), but to think they are a flat out bad team is pretty funny. At least some posters are reasonable. It was one game, and yes they Bison looked terrible (other than Werner), but let's see how they respond next week. If NDSU comes to GF and does that to us, the whole conversation changes. I do think NDSU is going to come out with a lot more energy, especially right away. UND needs to weather the storm and keep it tight early. Need to stay out of foul trouble and get Hooker going. I'll take UND to win, but I don't think it will be the blowout that it was last night.
-
Not sure about Brown yet. McDermott really only had a coupletter light out games, but was never as consistent as I had hoped. I think he would have gotten to be that real threat, but Brown could turn into that too. great win and a ton of fun. Don't just beat Fargo in Two weeks, beat them by at least the same margin.

NORTH DAKOTA vs. BC - Saturday Gameday MSG ********
siouxfan512 replied to AZSIOUX's topic in Men's Hockey
Not sure what the problem was here. I believe Rhett was already skating away after (probably) taking some verbal abuse from the BC guy. That would be an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. Then you have this goon trying to take his helmet off on the ice, which would be delay of game, or possible unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. I also suspect that the BC player was actually wearing a Fighting Sioux t-shirt under his pads. A name a logo the NCAA frowns upon. He should probably be suspended for being hostile and abusive. Basically, Jerry York needs to lose the eye patch, open his eyes, and get his players under control. -
We really have nobody to blame but ourselves. Go back to the South Dakota game, and then the NAU game .... We put all sorts of tape out there for Richmond to watch on "How to make a comeback". Clearly, this is why we lost Still hurts, but now my attention shifts from football and hockey to hockey and basketball. The FCS playoffs will be over soon enough and we can forget about this (....until the NCAA sends the NDSU banner to GF by mistake .... just kidding .... I hope). But seriously, onto next season. This year was a big step forward, and while it would have been nice to take another step by winning in the playoffs, the team and staff just needs to keep doing what they are doing. Keep on building.

Cratter must know more about Tomek's development and potential than most of us from watching him play so much. I say wait it out. If the kid leaves, he will show his potential or lack there of in the minors. If he stays, then maybe we have a shot to see him next year. He is young, so I'm not sure why they don't redshirt him to extend his eligibility (just in case). Its not like he is sitting behind a couple of slouches. He is behind a older, more experience, national champion goaltender. As for Hyrinkiw, he has more than earned his spot as the back up based on what we saw last season when he was called upon. Also, not as though Tomek is just warming the bench and handing out water bottles. He is getting valuable practice time on one of the best teams in the country, and learning from Goehring who's contribution cannot be overlooked. Hopefully Tomek see the value in what he is getting, and sticks it out. If he were the kind of guy that thinks the job should just be handed to him based on his precollege hype or draft status, then by all means, walk away and see how you do in the pros. There is a reason that even guys like Oshie, Boeser, Parise, etc played more than 1 season in college. It is valuable experience and development. I'm not sure anyone other than the coaches are in a position to say that Tomek is a bust, or that he has the makings to be a star. Its all potential and what ifs, until he gets some consistent ice time. Throw him out there before he is ready and he may look as bad as Cam did his first time on the ice, and look how that turned around.
-
Nope, I thought you made sense. If my team was playing outdoors, I would still probably go too, but I'd certainly be much more likely to go, and much much more likely to bring my family to an indoor game.
-
Its should also be notes that in addition to Grady coming back next season, Phil Jackson will be coming back to Grand Forks to take over as Men's basketball coach, and will be donating a new on campus football stadium. Good times for UND!
-
I'm with you there. When I think back to some of those things I half laugh and half cringe (and sometimes just cover my face in shame)
-
I'm not a fan of the F&$k the Gophers chant either. Though it was funny in college. Now realize its dumb, classless and unimaginative. Nevertheless, its going to happen, so its best to just ignore it and watch the game.
-
Pretty crazy to see that they got what they did considering 8-9k fans traveled to New York for the hockey game. Granted, not all of those fans traveled from Grand Forks, but if you could even get 2-4k of that group to go to football games, UND football attendance would be in a great position. We still wouldn't match the Bison's attendance, but that will likely never happen. Not that it should be about matching what NDSU fan output is, so much as maximizing UND's output potential. Making a playoff run would certainly have helped. Best UND can do now is go out and try to repeat their success on the field next season.
