Nice. Thanks Wyo.

Try the next couple of months. I don't think Comes will be ready to step in and start this year. Maybe by the end of the season, but not right away. I just hope he's ready as a sophomore to seriously compete for the starting job. That leaves Bradley, Goska and Hendrickson to start this year. I like them in that order right now, but I'm an idiot.

Football Gameplan's 2011 Great West Conference Preview Video

Nice work Em! Thanks! -
Hendrickson is the consummate team player by agreeing to move around to different positions to help the team, and he seems like a good kid and I'm glad his teammates have confidence in him. Based on what I saw last year, if Marcus or Goska are the starting QB this year, we are in trouble offensively. Both are great locker room guys and team players and their teammates respect them, which is great. I know it's a new year and guys can improve, but I just have concerns about both of them playing QB for this offense. I've been wrong many times before...

There are still ND and NW MN kids to be had every year. It's just a matter of identifying the right kids and projecting them properly. Not an easy thing to do obviously with no real formula. Some are better at doing this than others. The Perkerewicz's and Stein's of UND football world were low-scholarship guys coming in who earned everything they got and developed to get there through coaching and experience. They paid their dues and bought in to the system. In the D2 days, UND recruited guys that were "projected" and developed them with coaching and technique, with the exception of a few guys in each recruiting class who were "blue-chip", relative to D2 football. We need to better "develop" our guys that we get each year, ND, MN, CA or otherwise. I feel like we think that since we are recruiting supposedly better natural athletes out of high school, that it means automatically more dividends on the playing field. I would also argue with great conviction that we had a lot of better players at certain positions during our D2 days than what we have seen so far in Division 1. However, I will say that we definitely seem to get better each year with our recruiting classes and that the best is yet to come. Recruiting can be a crap-shoot, no doubt. Every coach "misses" on players from time to time. The key is develop what you get each year. Bottom line: we need to continue to recruit better players each year, and we need to do a better job of developing those players during their time on campus - "Coach'em up".

I would guess and hope that Joey Bradley took control of the #1 spot by the end of camp. I also hope that Chris Comes plays well enough to grab the #2 spot. Both still have to prove themselves to get to both spots.

I know some of you disagree with me, but have I ever told you that I don't think it's a good idea to choose a new nickname? We are The University of North Dakota - The great state of North Dakota's flagship university. Can you honestly imagine yelling anything other than "GO SIOUX" or "SIOUX" at an athletic event at UND?
-
I agree. If they could just get that indoor facility done, the excitement it would build could have a positive effect on fundraising for other "phases" of the master facilities plan. One thing is for sure - Memorial Stadium MUST get a facelift on the inside in the near future. Coach's offices, meeting rooms, locker rooms and weight room all need attention quickly and this is one reason we lose potential recruits to other schools. We are lacking and behind in that aspect. UND's football future is not at the Alerus. Planning for the future should be done with getting football back on campus in mind. Getting the IPF done is the first step in that process. The obvious long-term pipe dream right now is to eventually build a new stadium on campus to tie in the IPF. Baby steps. Step 1 is the IPF. Lets get it done. "Checks please!"

Actually, figuratively speaking, the "Big" sky is indeed falling.

I am a supporter and have been a supporter of the nickname and logo my entire life up to this day. The proponents of fighting this battle to the end (myself included) have always stated that we should not concede to speculative "worst-case what-ifs" when they haven't ever happened. I have agreed. Well, we now have the "worst-case what-if" occurring with the Big Sky's "concern" with us. It kills me to say this, but it's time. The potential repercussions to the University and its athletic department are too much. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do not choose a different, contrived, cheapened nickname and logo that can't hold the jockstrap of a Fighting Sioux name and logo that has so much pride and tradition over the years. We are the University of North Dakota and the flagship of the great state of ND. We will ALWAYS be the Fighting Sioux.

POLL: Should UND-NDSU Resume the Football Series?
UNDvince97-01 replied to ShilohSioux's topic in Football
Are you having a "small penis day" again? You seem to be having a lot of them lately. You know, there are "medicinal options" for curing that. It's fine that you have them, just go have them somewhere else. Remember, size doesn't matter. Thanks Mr. Buffalo. -
Sounds like UNO needs to file an anti-trust lawsuit against Nebraska-Lincoln. I smell one coming.

POLL: Should UND-NDSU Resume the Football Series?
UNDvince97-01 replied to ShilohSioux's topic in Football
This is such a farce. You guys are such pussies when you hide behind that excuse. Do you realize how lame that sounds? Just think about it once. If you are superior, then lets see it on the field. Prove it. But no, some of you guys would just prefer playing the propaganda game and claim imaginary wins and superiority. Kinda like you did with a few of your national championships. -

Fixed your post for you, Smoggy. -
I hate to have to go back to this again, but it would be crazy for both sides (UND and ndsu) to not entertain the thought of playing each other every other year at minimum. It just makes too much fiscal and economical sense for both athletic departments, not to mention the fan interest it would generate across the state. I do understand that neither side NEEDS the game. I also get that some on both sides do not WANT the game. That aside, I have always thought it was laughable when ndsu said they had "moved on" with new "rivalries" with SDSU and Minnesota. Make a contrived trophy to replace the nickel, and playing Minnesota a few times doesn't make new rivalries. You have to have history and tradition in rivalries, proximity, and a special kind of "dislike" for each other to make it unique. Now that we have a new and improved conference schedule, we have some of our own saying the same thing: Don't need em, who cares, move on, new rivals, etc. I also find this laughable. Both sides need to grow up and get over the ugly recent past and get this game scheduled. Both sides stand to gain a lot from this game. Yes, even if it's every other year, Brian Faison. No matter how hard both sides try to discount the rivalry between the 2 schools, we will always have the history, proximity and dislike that no other rivalry can match. Please get this game on the schedule soon.

Oh sorry, I thought we were talking football in this thread. That being said, the last time we played Minnesota was 1974. We last played NDSU in 2003.
-
Really? When was the last time we played them in football?

Wow, the schedules look incredible! GO GET YOUR SEASON TICKETS, FOLKS!!!

Wow Ole, you and I agree on something.

The format of the game was great, the tailgating and cook-off competitions were awesome and the free food was unbelievable. Combine that with the kids activities and it's really a shame the weather took a turn for the worst. Having said that, it was still a pretty good turnout. I look forward to the athletic dept building off this first year success and making it a bigger and better event every year. The football play on the field was decent and you can tell they still have a week left of practices to get better. Both sides of the ball showed rustiness and inexperience, which is to be expected. We still have a ways to go at QB but I'm not worried yet. Defensively, the d-backs and defensive line play was overall pretty good. Offensively, the future of the o-line looks very bright with lots of promising young talent. Next fall, the WR group needs to step up and make plays. Jake Miller and Mitch Suttton will complement each other well. Overall a fun weekend and I am excited to watch this team develop next season.

This is very sad to hear. Jay was a legend in the annals of Fighting Sioux Football and will be missed. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

Thanks for the info and updates guys. Great info.

How about this, Chicken Little? Wait and see if Bradley and Comes might be the answer in 2011 and beyond. They still have 9 spring ball practices and about 30 fall practices before their first game. You have given both zero chance after 6 practices....in spring ball. If they both don't live up to expectations and our QB's are horrible at midseason 2011, then by all means carry on with your banter. I suppose you will want to write both off by then. But even then, Comes will still be a freshman and Bradley will still be all that of a sophomore eligibility-wise. They have a combined 7 years of eligibility to play out. Can you at least give them a chance first? Deal?
