While the NCC was fun and great during our time in the conference, the UND football program has outgrown it. I would much rather play this year's schedule than the normal NCC schedule (minus ndsu). Much more exciting and challenging opponents on the schedule. Your point about not having ndsu on the schedule is legit and I and most others on here would agree with that. If you dont know names of anyone on the rosters, then you could do some research and maybe even open up a website or game program to find out the info. Or dare I say, even attend a game? It's not hard to figure out nowadays in the Internet age. There is more info about Sioux Football out there now than ever before. Regarding redshirts: You redshirt all and any that you possibly can UNLESS they can immediately help you. UND has been pretty good about that in the past. Miller and McGill help the team out immediately at the position with the biggest questions marks going into the season - WR. I am glad we have the luxury of only taking off 2 redshirts this year, compared to ndsu's 8, especially considering how much further along they are in FCS. Our coaching staff apparently thinks that we either NEED to pull the redshirts based on depth concerns, or the staff believes that McGill and Miller are just flat-out too good to not have on the field this fall. Either way, it was a necessity in their minds. I too cannot wait until 2012 when we are playoff eligible. It will be a great season to look forward to. Now would be the time to start "learning" the new UND football program and team. ndsu will be on the schedule in football soon as well. You can be as big of a UND Football fan as you want to be in Division 1. All of this of course, is just my opinion.

From what I have been reading and hearing, I think Miller, McGill and Murray will all be "slash" type players. I think all 3 of them are capable and will line up in the slot at times and will also take handoffs out of the backfield. I dont know for sure, but that is my guess.

That is hilarious. But that is exactly what we want them thinking prior to our game with them. I love how the guy THINKS he has the pulse on our situation, but really has no friggin clue whatsoever. I may have a guess as to who it might be?

Wow. We went from zero "Insiders" last year to one "Insider" last April (Sioux Football Insider), and now two "Insiders" (UND Insider) starting yesterday. Wayne Nelson and the UND athletic department have also been up to the task this fall. Coverage for UND football has vastly improved over the last year. Great job by everyone! We appreciate it.

So it's about you then? When I give money to the alma mater I have always loved and always will love, it was about giving back to the university that gave me so much. It wasnt about me or being able to call the shots. But, to each their own, I guess. If your goal for DONATING money to UND was to be able to call the shots, then yes you have a reason to be upset and should stop donating to UND altogether. -
How has the Name Debacle affected alumni donations?

Bravo. -
The Central Washington game that year was in a heavy downpour all day. 1st game of the year too. Basically cut the attendance in half. The Augie game had playoff indications and was the LAST GAME EVER played at Memorial Stadium. Disappointing. Both in outcome and fan support.
-
I'd be interested in knowing what the average attendance was in 2000, the final season at Memorial Stadium prior to the move to The Alerus in 2001.

That's really too bad and sad. And those people call themselves "supporters" of The University of North Dakota huh? I get standing up for what you believe in etc, I really do. I'm an advocate of it myself. They are simply standing up to the wrong people and this type of behavior is just so misled. In the end, the people they are hurting most are the people they probably want to hurt the least. The UND athletic programs, student-athletes and coaches dont deserve that. I wonder if these people actually realize who it is they are really hurting by doing this? Maybe they just dont care? I say keep your money and find a new university to cheer for if that is how you "support" UND. But, that's just me. -

Respectfully, isnt that pretty much what I said here?: Which is precisely why we arent officially retiring it until 2011. -

By the way, I would like to make it known that I have not given up on the name and logo, and probably never will. Even after we officially have to drop it, I dont think we should close any windows of opportunity for the future. My gut (its a big one at that) says it could come back to us in the near future. This is precisely the reason why I really hope we dont choose some cheapened nickname and logo in the place of something we have all been so proud of for so many years. I dont think I could bring myself to purchase any new clothing or apparel with a different name and/or logo. It just wouldn't feel right. We are simply The University of North Dakota.... ..... ..... ..... .... .....FIGHTING SIOUX!!! -

I would hope that absolutely NOBODY thinks the Summit League is more important than the Sioux name. I would be the first to say the opposite in fact. However, given the timing of everything (SR had PLENTY of time btw), it turned out that they could not get the support they needed per the settlement with the NCAA, in time to do what was in the best interest of the UND and the athletic dept. As much as it may seem otherwise to some, UND does have "other sports" besides hockey that they have to deal with. The new SR tribal council chairman (Murphy) promised the UND administration, REA and a very loyal fanbase something that he could not deliver - a simple vote of the people. In fact, Charlie Murphy used that platform to win himself an election at SR. I'm not blaming it on Charlie Murphy, simply stating the facts. I can guarantee you that if SR gets their $&*t together between now and when the name is scheduled to be retired, Kelly would definitely revisit and try to overturn the outcome to the SBOHE, given we received the outcome we need - a vote of support from SR's people for use of the name and logo for 30 years or more. Kelly and Faison would be committing suicide by not going back to the SBOHE to get it reversed if such an outcome occurred. NOBODY wanted to see the name and logo go. NOBODY. Unfortunately without the support of the SR people, it was simply a matter of time thanks to the NCAA, who is really the entity behind of all of this crap that you should hate. Well them, The Summit League and Douple. -
I know this is a pipe dream, but it has been discussed. The only way Memorial Stadium would work out for everything (attendance in November, etc), is to have a retractable roof (an alum with the initials DF, anyone?). If they do go back to campus, and I'd like to see it eventually, I think they would regret building an outdoor stadium because of the temps late in the season. With the Alerus, I think crowds and fans have become softer, like you said. But it also does have some advantages. Just my opinion.

Fine. Hate the Summit then. Same goes for the others who have this sentiment. Just dont hate UND's teams that potentially join the Summit. Don't punish the teams, coaches and student-athletes. Bottom line is Standing Rock didnt get it done when they needed to. I dont hate their people for it. However, I have quite a distaste for their tribal council. -
Looks great Jim. Nice work.
-
If I had to guess, I'd say that's a typo.
-
In the Chicago Tribune huh? Ouch, that one hurts.
-
And I agree. Like I said, I hope we are trying to find a better option.
-
Really? Even if there is a 'better' game and option out there? Also, do we know for sure that there is a $50-$100K buyout for that contract? If there is, then obviously it would have to be a very compelling game to get out of the contract. Regardless of what happens, I will still be VERY disappointed if we play SF again. But hey, that's just me.
-
I respect your passion and what you are saying here. I just think it's a little early to start worrying about this. If and when any of the scheduling things you speak of come to fruition, then I too will be severely disappointed. Until then, I will give Faison the benefit of the doubt. I hope he doesn't prove us otherwise. One other thing - They should buyout the SF game and I will be severely disappointed if they dont. Find a better game for home or hit the road again.
-
My guess is that there maybe has already been a couple other games finalized for 2011. I think they maybe want to save a few of the games for the public announcement and official release of the 2011 schedule for PR purposes. At least I HOPE this is the case. I would be very disappointed if we still only had 7 games scheduled for 2011 at this point.

Same crap that the other teams in college would say too..........until he put up 175 with a couple td's each game. They were pretty quiet after that.
