  1. They have one good goalie & a bunch of unprovens throughout their roster. Plus their schedule gets tougher this year. No wonder that town has a lot of alcoholics--their women's team gets more respect & national attention than their men's team.
  2. It probably means we're both Try not to overthink the concept of scrimmages. It's just a time when players fine-tune their games, get in shape & compete for valuable spots on the roster. It also gives the coaches a chance to evaluate the players, test line combinations, etc.
  3. I don't mind smack talkers that much. If they can back up their tough talk with victories & championships, fine by me. If not, they should expect some serious backlash from Sioux fans--Gophers especially. It's open season on the Gophers this year--2 years ago they needed O.T. to win & last year they needed a diving Paul Martin to get them past Michigan. Not exactly dominating wins. We'll see if Gopher luck runs in 3s this year.
  4. Does anyone know if Chorney & Genoway are the same age? It sounds like they're both 16 y/o which means it would be at least 2 years before they attend UND, should they decide to come here. One would think the Sioux have a good chance of landing more blue chips from SSM considering their recent success recruiting there.
  5. Thx in advance, PCM & forecheck, for any & all coverage you'll be able to give us this season. We out-of-staters really appreciate your volunteer work!
  6. Thx for that story, Stack, typical Farce antics. I agree with Dagies in that it's nearly impossible to duplicate the original but that a 2nd generation of Farce would do well, also. I think it would be a good idea to give some of the more creative members of the Sioux Crew yellow construction helmets, change their name & let 'em loose. I was wondering also, how many Farce were there & why did they become extinct?
  7. Kind of like an "Interstate Babe Exchange Program"? Thanks but no thanks. I spent the first 23 years of my life surrounded by heifers & have no desire to be around any 2-ton Minnesota Lenas in the near future. Besides, I'm married & my wife wouldn't be too keen on $300/week grocery bills. Should visit Phoenix sometime, ladies like the one in my avatar are a dime a dozen
  8. I'm well aware of HIPA-Health Insurance Portability Act-but had no idea it pertained to athletics. It's used to primarily protect the confidentiality of those receiving medical care, including the mentally ill, from dubious 3rd parties. How stupid that they're applying it to athletics. I've watched plenty of collegiate games this year & have heard no mention of it.
  9. Care to make a wager on that? I'm feelin' lucky
  10. Funny stuff They were truly ahead of their time when it came to comical skits. The difficult thing with starting the Farce today, imo, is that the mentality of today's students is so much different than 25 years ago. You'd probably have to have a few members of the original Farce sit with them & teach them how to be funny in an original way--& we all know that's not easy. I sure wish they'd carry on this tradition, though, because I think it would be worth it. (if the administration would let them)...
  11. "Some offseason injuries to the defensive corps leave the Sioux short at that position as they open on-ice practices Monday. But the corps of returning defensemen is very good, headed by Andy Schneider, Matt Jones, Nick Fuher and Matt Greene. Matt Smaby, an imposing 6-foot-5, 228-pound defenseman, could move quickly into the picture. The Sioux won't be favored in the WCHA - that honor will belong to Minnesota, winner of the last two NCAA championships. But if injury concerns on defense cure themselves and the goaltending is solid, UND has enough offensive punch to be as good as anyone. "I don't know if this is our year or not," Blais said, "because I think we could be really good next year. But so much of how a season goes depends on team chemistry, leadership and other variables." And those won't begin to sort themselves out until Monday, when the Sioux take the ice in preparation for their Oct. 4 home opener against Minn.-Duluth in the Hall of Fame game." ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- The above is an excerpt from Sunday's Herald. A couple of things that caught my attention were some offseason injuries to the defensive corp. & Blais' comment about being unsure if this is our year but that next year could be really good. The season hasn't even started yet & we're already short at defense?? (It didn't say who had injuries) I guess Smaby was eating his Wheaties over the summer as he bulked up to 228lbs. "Mr. Smaby, introduce Mr. Vanek to the plexiglass" No mention of captains or assistant captains...
  12. Thought I would start this thread in memory of the greatest college hockey student group--ever. Active from the late '70's to early '80's, the Farce tormented opposing teams & made a lot of Sioux faithful laugh. This motley crew wore yellow construction helmets with red flashing lights & coined clever phrases like "Kermit's luck guides our puck" among others. They were even shown on ESPN. It would be nice to hear from members who have memories of them or who were actually Farce themselves, like Farce Poobah. I would have given my left nut (possibly both) to be a part of this group but was a freshman in high school when they disbanded. Can somebody explain why they no longer exist? Was it an uptight administration or did they just fizzle out? I think it would be great to organize & establish another Farce following to unite the Sioux faithful & make us laugh again. Give the REA some spirit & encourage those season ticketholders to quit sitting on their hands & clap once in awhile. If some dorks in Duluth can do it, why can't we?
  13. I voted for Brandt coz I'm a big fat Homer. If I were objective, I'd probably have voted for Reichmuth.
  14. A Sioux sweep would be great in the sense that their PWR rating would skyrocket & it would be a super way to start the season. This series should tell us a lot if this is THE year.
  15. My bad I can't help giggling like a little girl at the thought of one of our imposing d-men laying down the smack on the Golden Child. Would make him regret not having gone pro & to hear Gopher fans crying foul for the next 10 years would be priceless.
  16. Don't know if this relates to the previous post, but I was wondering why people are unable to post permanent images in their signature lines. Would this take up too much space? I tried doing this on USCHO recently by using the IMG key & then copying & pasting to the sig line but it was a no go...
  17. Classic Matthew 7:7-"...seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you."
  18. And if he were to slam that Fabio-lookalike Vanek into the sideboards at full speed I'm sure he'd be an instant hero & admired by Sioux fans everywhere. He's got the size & tenacity to do it.
  19. I'd like to see more of the black uniforms--black's an intimidating color, imo. Dunno, maybe we could ask Christopher Lowell of the Discovery channel to assist us as he seems to have good fashion sense. What about the idea of putting symbols on players' helmets to reward them for good games or plays? Like some of the college football teams do. Florida State puts little tomahawks on helmets to reward their guys. I think it would look cool & it might give players an extra incentive to try a little harder. After all, no one would want to be the guy with a blank helmet
  20. Are you related to Jimmy the Greek? Just joking. To be competitors we'll probably have to do very well in all aspects. Hope the guys have the fire in their bellies this year.
  21. Who needs a dish when I've got Internet audio? I'm stylin' & will have the benefit of listening to Hennessy's voice all year long; whereas you will have to endure choice seats in a rockin' arena watching the best team in the country. I pity you... Phoenix in January. Diggler, I'm having a problem finding all the 10-ft. high snowdrifts. Looks like I'll have to suffer through another "frigid" 80 deg. winter.
  22. I'll probably be getting a suntan in 95 deg. weather--Goon will be freezing his arse off in a duckblind, Sprig will be doing an inventory of his winter gear & I'll be sipping a brew in the backyard trying not to get sunburned. Man, it's been about 15 years since I've seen a shovel. Sorry, had to rub in
  23. I think this edited version is what you meant to say.
  24. That would be the talk of GF...
  25. I remember Lucia being interviewed prior to the '97 season & he thought his Tigers & the Gophers should challenge for top dog; he also said the Sioux were his darkhorse pick. I think the Sioux started 6-0 that year, were swept in the TC by the Rasmussen-led Gophers & were a steady 2nd in the national polls behind Michigan throughout the season. Michigan (much like Minnesota this year) seemed invincible until BU gave them a fresh dose of reality in the FF...
